I'm amazed how idiomatic this sounds played as metal. If I wasn't already familiar with the piece, and if Shosty hadn't so thoroughly stamped it as his own with the unrelenting DSCH motif, and with all his other self-quotations, I would totally believe it was written as metal to begin with.

As a student of classical music and at the same time fan of rock, I would like to thank you for doing these arrangements!!! They're very well done, and Shostakovich did predict heavy metal... Hopefully I can see in the future some setlist with this Allegro in it :) Btw, I know other work that suits well in this heavy metal transcriptions: Gyorgy Ligeti's first String Quartet! Maybe you can do some arrangement of it..?

I adore Shostakovich, love metal, play both guitar and cello and have always wondered what this would sound like on guitar. Sounds a lot like Gorguts' late stuff! They were surely influenced by Shostakovich a lot. There's even a string quintet called 'The Battle of Chamdo' on the 'Colored Sands' album. It's sounds eerily similar to this piece in particular, but the influence is still crystal clear in all of the other tracks from the album. Highly recommend this album and the band in general to anyone who enjoyed this.
