After a hiatus of fifty seven years, the Shajung Morung of Changlangshu village made a decision to make a new logdrum. Although the decision was made by the clans of this Morung, the entire village community participated in the process of pulling the logdrum into the village from the jungle where it had been cut and carved out by hand. Changlangshu village is located in the Tobu area of Mon district in Nagaland, India.
Story written and narrated by Anungla Zoe Longkumer.
Filmed by Sangti Wanmai and Angke Konyak..
Edited by Megotsolie Dolie and Anungla Zoe Longkumer.
Produced by Moba Langfhoang.
Copyright 2018 Shajung Morung.
When the logdrum was being made, Moba had the foresight to have the process documented and asked these young aspiring filmmakers from the village to shoot it. They used what was available, a canon camera and a handycam, and managed to film quite a bit considering it took almost a month for the logdrum to be made and pulled to the village. The footage was finally put to good use five years later when Moba met Anungla Zoe and requested her to make something out of it.
Under the initiative of the Changlangshu Students’ Union, this documentary film was released by Advisor of Information and Public Relations, SCERT, VG, Mr. Toshi Wungtung, on 2nd May 2019 in Kohima, Nagaland.
The film was first previewed in 2019 at the Indigenous Film Festival in Orissa, India and thereafter screened at the:
International Indigenous Film Festival, Bali, Indonesia, 2019
Rainforest Fringe Festival, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, 2019
Mumbai International Film Festival, Mumbai, India, 2020
JDCA International Film Festival on Art and Artists, 2020
Tribal Gathering, Panama, Central America, 2020
