That's awesome. The intent of this video so throwers can get a new perspective on spinning and get that next PR.

When my coach would try to help me with my technique I understood what he was saying but couldn't figure out really what it was I had to fix. I compaired my shot videos to this one and figured out everything I was doing wrong, so thank you oh so much. And just when I was thinking about giving up on the rotation which is what I've been doing sense freshmen year. I think this video just saved my junior and senior year track seasons!

That's a good question. When young throwers are learning the spin it is better to start with your weight on the left leg because it simplifies the spin. You should do whatever it takes to simplify the spin and make it as consistent as you can. That being said, these throwers had over 5,000 spins under their belt. More experienced throwers can use a weight transfer at the beginning of their throw to create more momentum and throw farther.

Weight over the left leg and shoulders parallel to the ground at the beginning. Create power with right leg swing and drive (push) off left leg. The only way to do that is to stay low (shinangle). We never really worked on a drill for fast feet as I remember but this is one I like: Get into the 180 position and pull through tight and fast on the right leg 3 (or more) times and then finish the throw (stay balanced on the right leg in the middle and keep the right foot turning the whole time).

I am actually the second throwe. After watching some of your videos, I would suggest a smoother finish at the end of the throw. If you watch from 1:55-2:03 in this video, look at how the right foot and leg turn all the way around to the front slightly before the right arm. This minor technique fix is easy to miss and hard to get. However, after hundreds of drills breaking down the power position slowly you will get it. The rhythm of the spin should be slow to fast as well.

haha, he's actually from Russia, I dont think I have heard that one. As for the feet, thats a good question. What worked for me with getting the feet faster was a collection of two thinks. First off, it takes about a couple 1000 spins to get really smooth. Secondly, I would suggest to think of the throw as a backwards 7 and pull straight through the 180 tight--not around--on the backwards 7 (drill that). Remember, slow at the beginning and fast at the end.

This is a common problem. First off, are you sure you are holding the shot put correctly. Try turning your thumb under more--away from your collar bone. And Yes, I do a lot of wrist exercises. You can get really creative with them too. To find a bunch of exercises, I suggest going to exrx.com, then find Weight Training, then Exercises & Muscle Directory. My favorite are DB wrist curls, a forearm squeeze machine, and Wrist Roller.

haha yeah cause im ukrainian and his name is igor which is common in my country. What other drills should i do cause as you saw in my videos my feet are really slow and i feel like my balance in the back of the circle is not good, maybe cause im bending down too much. I just switch over to spin like 2 months ago.

Also why do a weight transfer when you can start off with weight on the left leg?
@throwrightfarhappens

That's right. Unfortunately, these techniques are not perfect and there are flaws to each. That is a good adjustment every thrower should make. Thanks for pointing it out because I haven't thought about that recently.

Learning the rotation does take time and so does the speed. I would suggest to start out slow and progressively get faster. Really most of the tips I have are here in this video, If you take a video of yourself and then compare it to the positions on these, you will see what you need to work on yourself. A great thrower can get in 10,000 spins a year. Good luck!

at :43 the guy on the left has his butt sticking out therefore try and get your but down and ur legs bent. cause when you squat do you squat with your back bent? or would you rather bend your legs and squat properly.
