Pro's: If you're a HK r-d collector and wanted a HK G41, this is a choice. It takes AR15 mags and has a last round bolt hold. (I like both these ideas, but if I cared that much about the bolt hold/release, I'd just get an AR-15.) Con's: Cosmetically not as appealing as a HK93/33, and it has the same terrible civilian button only mag release which adds more delay in reloading. (Basically I swear it needs a paddle release for convenience sakes, and him struggling at 2:04 does not inspire confidence with this mag system. It doesn't at least here seem convenient, fast, or smooth.) I guess I'll just have to see how it preforms when it releases.

Agree, still, this is early days. Hopefully they have polished it for release.

Many early PTR-91s also lacked the paddle, so I can only assume it will come with time.

You're spot on. They need to get rid of that bolt catch and just let the user use the charging handle to lock and release the bolt. Definitely needs a Paddle release too. Despite that criticism I can't wait for this to be released.

@@joeytomato If that was really how it always worked, there wouldn't be any surprisingly successful products. Sometimes the market doesn't know what it wants, a lot of times it is better to make whatever the fuck you want to make and stick to it while promoting it as efficiently as you possibly can. Consumers are not always right.

People should be happy to see all these new firearms coming out! Variety is the spice of life and yet there are so many against these new firearms. Quite sad. I for one am looking forward to the PTR 63!

A shell deflector is nice and all, but I'd still rather have a lefty charging handle. Just cut the slot in the other side, it literally doesn't require any new parts to be made.

While I love the STANAG compatibility, I never really wanted a last round bolt hold open on an HK93 reproduction. I’ll be interested to see how this stacks up against the Zenith that’s going to be released.

That looks wonky to me. I understand that they probably just have the equipment for g3 flats, but it looks silly to me. They need to get equipment to make hk33 or hk53 flats. If they made a hk33 that took stanag mags and had a bolt catch, I'd buy one lickity split. I still think this might be a good gun, but knowing that the hk33 exist is tainting my view of it I suppose.

@@yodax5613 It's not a question of affordable, I have a healthy inventory of factory HK mags to go with my guns. Cz mags is almost identical in dimension to the mp5 mags with the addition of a channel the runs down the back side of the mag for the bolt catch tab (much like VZ58 mags vs traditional AK mags). This should make it easier to adapt it to the mp5 platform. If PTR was able make their new 63 STANAG compatible, I'd imagine they could give their 9CT a similar treatment. Because CZ mags are cheap and reliable, it would be that much more marketable to the consumer.

I think they should change the style of the trigger guard, make it truly south paw usable, and paddle mag release. Other than that, its basically an ar15 with a different charging handle and carrier group 🔥 love it

If you keep the stg44 style (hk51 has it, if it is authentic) buffer tube, that the G3 omitted, the handling characteristics are much better, especially in fully automatic assault position.

Doesn't need a bolt catch/ release. Locking the bolt to the rear with the charging handle is the bolt catch. You just added an unnecessary step to this manual of arms and took away one of the funnest parts of owning an HK type weapon. The slap. I can't believe I'm quoting ramblin Joe, but Cmon man.

I swear Brethren Arms did the AR-15 magwell far better, they just made it so that it would work with AR mags but kept the paddle mag release function and it just looked like a regular G3 type mag well but functioned with AR mags... WHY did PTR come up with this cugdule of an idea, nothing about this looks good. That end cap for the stock is terrible, that lower also looks bad and just poorly thought up and don't get me started on the magwell... You guys have been getting so many requests for a 5.56 G3 for years, back when you were making your MP5 clones and this is the best that your company could come up with?
