Classy move, asking permission before posting this person’s work. Good on you for being respectful of others. Well done video!

I was on board until he just murdered a chisel like that. You do NOT grind an angle on the flat surface. On chisels you have a flat surface, then on the other side you have a main grind angle and a secondary bevelled edge. The back side remains completely flat

Thanks for the comment, but I'm not a sharpening expert so I can't say anything smart. 😊You should probably ask Chase about it.

+1 Alex Tomlinson, I had the same reaction. “So, now you have an -effective- chisel.” Um, not effective if you wish to, say, make a mortise with a square wall, or chop to a reference line.

I wonder how good it is for very hard steels ?

Why's he angle the blade into the stroke for each side? Seems it's putting a much steeper bevel than the angle set into the rods by the base. I thought the knife should be held straight up and down, 90* from the surface, all the time for both sides while doing the strokes.
@carlh7795
@carlh7795 Жыл бұрын
Not doing it every time, just after the first couple strokes. Looks like about a 5* change from vertical. Or is it just my visual perception that's off?

The angle changes every time and comes with experience - Mr.Chase is a sharpener with HUGE experience and having feeling about taken steel in his hands, he himself adds an angle depending on the requirements of sharpening. You, too, will feel the steel and change the angle after 10 years of sharpening knivesexperience. 90 degrees is for beginners in the instruction manual.

@@carlh7795 I think that to analyze the manner of sharpening each master so deeply is the same as discussing the individual handwriting of each person. There are general rules of the manufacturer - recommendations, but with experience, the hand, head, motor skills, experience, knowledge of the material, the state of the machine itself, etc. make their own adjustments to the sharpening of EVERY PERSON. For example, Mr.Chase is the best in the world now, but this does not mean that you cannot to be a better and do better than him ... and then everyone will try to solve "puzzle" how YOU sharpens so well and at what angle he (you) does it .

@@stranik1966 ok, I have been sharpening my knives for about 20 years. Seems a bit out of place to have a pre-angled system like this being used to try to intentionally put on a convex bevel or micro bevel. Is that how the customers of this product are expected to use it? If that's the aim of the customer of this, why not just make it a nice big flat stone? I do see a value in a micro bevel which is more obtuse than the majority of the edge. It allows for very quick touch-ups.

@@carlh7795 Oh, I did not know that you have such experience in sharpening - you are an experienced user, I take off my hat. To be honest, I know such subtleties about the knife sharpening that you ask. I just walked around the SHOT Show 2023 exhibition and made this video inspired by the work of Mr. Chase. There at the end of the video there is his contact information and he, as a person, is VERY OPEN FOR DIALOGUE AND DISCUSSION. I think your thoughts will interest him - I'm sure that Spyderco is looking for such users to improve the quality of their product. Please, call to Mr.Chase, maybe you'll even get paid for your comments to Spyderco, try it! Mr. Chase will be pleased to know your opinion and the fact that he has become popular on KZbin, he will pass on your thoughts and advice to the management of Spyderco ... and maybe this will be a good collaboration - GOOD LUCK, my friend . TAHNK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT!

I'm not a seller of these sharpeners, I just walked around the exhibition about cartridges and saw how a person sharpens professionally and LOVES his work ... that's why I made this video. That is, this video is in no way connected with sales ... bro, I don’t even know how much this sharpener costs.

I know how much both sharpeners cost. But although Spyderco is more expensive, it performs much better than Lansky. I have both so I can compare and I mostly work for Spyderco - better choice for sharpening!
