I don't care what some people say about birdshot being ineffective. I wouldn't want to get shot by it, especially after seeing what it did to a metal door. From these results, I'd use the #4 birdshot for defense. Thank you for this informative video.

@@bphilbac - Most forget that #8 bird shot is hitting that bird about 200-300 feet away and only a couple of pellets usually. At 10-30 feet like most home invasion shootings would be, you are getting all 400 pellets, depending on the load. And your hide isn't as tough as that steel door. @@theshermantanker7043 - usually they are shot in the butt, and there is a lot of meat to go through. Also the back muscle are denser and tougher than anything you have on the front. The Winchester PDX shot.. look at that pattern. Now picture that pattern hitting somebody in center mass. God damn. I have several boxes of PDX ammo that I've had for quite some time now. I have practice with it over the years at different distances. It stays very well grouped for about 25 yards. After that it spreads out real real fast. Right now in my ar12 I have a slug load out and I have a magnum buckshot load out. Five of each per mag. From defense, typically I would use either my 9 mm or my Mossberg 590. The 590 has low recoil buckshot in it. Where I live there's no safe direction to really shoot at an intruder and miss.

Great video thanks for posting it.... I have a 12 gauge and birdshot will be just perfect for me for home self defense... After watching what the bird shot did to a metal door... @stevenkaczmarek7030
@stevenkaczmarek7030 5 жыл бұрын
I'm using #8 for my HD 12 gauge. My apartment is small, and there are people living in every direction, so a miss with a slug or buckshot might not be the best option for that situation. I know some might say, "Well don't miss, practice more, blah...blah...blah". The fact and probability is that it could happen, especially under extreme duress. I'd rather mitigate any collateral damage, whether mine or someone else's. So, #8 should do the job. I'm looking at it like, who wants to get shot? Who wants broken bones, like ribs, or a broken sternum, clavicle, arm, etc.? I'm assuming broken bones will ruin the day of anyone. Also, getting hit dead center in the chest with a round or two of #8 will be devastating at close ranges of 7-10 feet, and for psychological reasons should end the fight. If it doesn't there's a few more left. I'm guessing one or two will do. There's a few left for more than one intruder as well. Imagine, if Mike Tyson could get one clean shot on you in his prime? Would he put your lights out in one punch? Probably, and a shotgun blast with #8 is 10 fold (not mathematically figured), nonetheless it will put a BG down. As a side note to anyone assuming I'm trying to just wound, no I will be going for lethal results, and a #8 should incapacitate the threat lethally. The pellets are held tightly in the wad at close ranges, so it will be a large mass of approximately 500 grains. A 500 grain hunk of lead isn't something to sneeze at.

As a Teenager I often went with visiting hunters to make sure they didn't shoot any livestock on our farm and when birds went up I would aim and wait for the hunters to shoot first and when they missed and gave up I would then shoot and still take out the pheasant.

I recently read and watched No Country for Old Men. In particular in the film adaptation, Moss shoots at Chigurh using a 12 gauge shotgun with 00 buckshot through a hotel room door. The distance can't be more than 10 feet. How Moss doesn't just totally blow him away makes no sense.

When #8 doesn’t have the distance to spread out (like in a house), it’s mass has a LOT of energy. Short of body armor maybe, I’d use small birdshot for home defense no problem.

At that distance, which is rather standard for fome defense, 00 buckshot is too tight. Maybe #4 buckshot would make a difference but I choose #4 birdshot, it seems to be enough lethal and with a wider pattern. I have no problems with overpenetration inside my bricks house, my concern are the authorities because I'm European and you can only offer coffe to prowlers. By the way, we are suffering a constant invasion of africans, several hundreds every single day from the sea, not counting the false tourists who arrive to the airports.

The birdshot loads both penetrated at least the first layer of sheet metal(#4 the second some also) and made some interesting creators that I would venture to say might blow a fellow completely off his feet backwards. We probably forget that the shot cartridge has to be powerful enough to catch up to flyers or reach them at their great distances which they achieve swiftly and then kill them to boot. So at short ranges they are probably quite lethal on man and beast. Certainly will change someones intentions quickly!

Why would you shoot a working man/women on purpose? Especially one trying to uphold general law? The only people that dislike military/police are lawbreakers(in most cases). When we lose this protection this country will go down instantly. It's not always about weapons. The government protects our finances, health, and future as well. Please save your ignorant comments for a smaller crowd.
