Great points in your video. It is a great "all-around" weapon if you're going to be staying home in SHTF for hunting, etc... Definitely not a primary weapon. We live way out in the country on acreage and have family all around us, so we are lucky in that capacity. It wouldn't be the best weapon for bug-out or carrying on foot, for sure. You never know where you will be when SHTF, so I have a couple of options in my truck to get me back home in case I am in town when it happens. A pistol and a 22 rifle. Honestly, the 22 is mostly in case I want to stop and shoot some ground squirrels on the way home, LOL! But it would due as back-up to get me home as well. My primary weapons at home are along the lines of AR's and AK's. I want to put a little talk about the 410 bore. I know it doesn't even compare to the 12 or 20 gauge, but it does have its place. My mother-in-law is 80 years old. The 12 is just too much for her any more. So I bought her a 410 and my wife a 410. To demonstrate how they actually are pretty good, I froze a bunch of gallon size milk jugs. We were at ten paces, the average length of a hallway or good sized living room. We started with the bird shot, then the pellets (one of them had three pellets and one had 9) and then the slugs. The damage was more devastating than I thought they would do.

Thanks for an enjoyable video. For SHTF avoiding extended fire fights is key. A brief exchange of thirty rounds within thirty yards is more likely. The need for over a hundred rounds outside your home is over estimated. Twelve rounds on the shotgun and a twenty five round belt carrier or bandolier or dump pouch while on the move should suffice for a hunting and foraging trip away from home. To backup the shotgun using a pistol with four spare magazines wound be sufficient but not burdensome.

(From Tasmania) Mate you can have a lever action shotgun. It is a Category A firearm in TAS. Look it up. Other states are similar. Got mine in 2009. Not quite as good as the pump shotties I had in 1996 but close. Five shot plus one in the chamber. A new remake of the one used in Terminator 2, the Winchester 1887. As a Stockman working on farms, technically I could have added 'Primary Production' to my 'Genuine Reason' on my gun license and therefore had access to buying a pump or semi-auto shotgun, but since I already had the lever shotgun it wasn't worth the trouble. Imagine quitting my job and having to re-do my gun license, and also hand in the pump for police to destroy. I did quit being a Stockman a few months ago and no longer work on a farm, so I would have had to do just that. But I still have the lever action shotgun, registered for hunting. And also pistol etc. You just have to be in a pistol club and do a minimum number of competition shoots per year. It can be done. Gun ownership is a small taste of freedom, and hence political. Politics is a numbers game. The more the merrier.

Let's talk about real world. I want to make this clear. I have been graced to have just about any kind of firearm you would need to fall back to if needed. AR, shotgun, pistols and long rifles. However, for a defend yourself firearm at the homestead I can think of no other than a short barrel shotgun. No other firearm will end a problem as quick as a 12 gauge shotgun. Even in SHTF you will spend 90% of your time around your home. Meaning that your shotgun would be your primary firearm. Even venturing out the shotgun would be my go to. Why? Because when it really comes unglued, that guy with the AR will get taken out. People don't, for some reason, fear a guy with a shotgun as much as they do the guy with the AR. If you see me at 100 yards with a shotgun you will probably pay me no mind. If I have an AR, you may think to hunt me down and do me harm. Why? Because of fear. When rule of law is gone, people will end the threats by other means. So I would plan on making sure I had various types of tools for when the world changes. I don't think things will be what we think it will when it all goes to hell. Now let's talk about the guy at 500 yards. If someone has you at 500 yards, your already dead. So it is best to take him out early. See a guy in SHTF with a long rifle, and you think he will turn on you, take him out right away. Never give him the chance. You will find that those guys will be dealt with immediately. In SHTF it will not take long for people to connect long range rifles to out right murder. It will be dealt with. Make no mistake about it. Think about it.

If your are looking for a battle or a fight, you will be dead in a week. I really get sick of people thinking their AR is the end all defense weapon that will conquer the world. Truth is in this scenario that AR will get you killed. But it is your grave, not mine.

For static home defense a Shotgun is great, but if a person planned on taking it away from home and might have to use it in a firefight then no the shotgun is not the best choice, The capacity and range isn't the issue in my opinion, its because the ammo is heavy and large that takes up a lot of space, carrying even 50 rounds is a burden, where a AR-15 or pistol caliber carbine carrying that same weight of rounds would equal 100 rounds or more

@NavySooner3 ай бұрын
@@russelldavis8415 I’d still take an AR in a home defense situation. Everyone is under the assumption you just can’t ever miss with a shotgun. So what happens when you do? A semi-auto no matter the brand is more prone to jamming, pumps are VERY likely to be short stroked under stressful situation, AR gives faster follow up shots due much less recoil, more ammo without a reload even if you do live in a 10 rd state, and if you do then you get faster reloads. Also before I made this comment I took every type of shotgun round I own and weighed it against 4 different 5.56 rds and two different subsonic 300blk rds. It’s close if you have 300 subs but still not one of my shotgun rds was light than any round I own that you can put in an AR-15.
