@1banryukyu Yes part of the kanji says Shotokan, the other part says "kokusai". So the two parts are "Kokusai Shotokan" which is short for "Kokusai Shotokan Karatedo Renmei". This is Kanazawa-sensei's SKIF organization of which I am a member. Yes, I did train in Japan for a period of three years at Kanazawa-sensei's Headquarters Dojo in Tokyo and had a great time. Thanks for asking.

I could only add to this great explanation the hands position. When you do Rei in Seiza, both hands will touch the floor exactly where your nose will follow later. And hands will be together like a triangle, to protect your face if somebody else comes from your back and press your head in the floor. If your sword is not in your belt, but in the floor (most usual) the guard of the sword should be close to your knee, and when you bow your elbow should be in front of the sword's guard, than nobody could take your sword from the front.

I was told the left hand went first because then it would be HARD to draw the sword, because your left arm would be in the way of the blade, therefore you show respect to the sensei because you wouldn't draw your sword at them. But this also makes sense... Perhaps I was told wrong? Or it's just a different interpretation?? I don't know? T.T Thank you in advance if anyone knows. Wonderful explanations in these videos! Awesome. Very helpful. :)

There is a battojutsu technique specifically for coming from a kneeling position to a striking one. Although, the technique like many others requires you to hold the saya (sword sheath) with your left hand. Which may be why you use your left hand first.

Thanks for the great video Shotokan Sensei. Please could I ask about the first knee to reach the floor? My understanding was that when doing seisa the right knee goes to the ground first, because the sword is on your left hip, so keeping the left knee raised helps to stop the sword poking into the ground while you assume the position. Please could you explain the left knee? Thanks.

My Friend, I know you are American, though I respect you you never understand the details. For example, the Belt, must not be in the middle between your legs, while you are in seiza. It must every line in his side, near the hips!
