The scary part is for the two guys working, if somebody freaks out so bad that they grab and reach for one of the guys as they're falling and pull one of them off.. Hopefully they're strapped in too

If you relook at the footage and check both guys are wearing safety harnesses - it just under their jackets for easy of work and better safety (a harness needs to be tight fitting to body) . Having been a tour guide both for backpackers and alpine guiding the industry in NZ has a lot of extensive safety protocols, both internal within companies and industry and NZ government agencies which regulates and oversights various adventure tourism operations. There more accidents on the roads leading to the locations than in adventure operations.

Very true. Most people (95% at least) don't realize how dangerous driving really is. In 100 years, people will look back and say how crazy we were for driving ourselves in these vehicles on roads at 60+ mph, only feet from oncoming traffic going in the other direction. Driving is insanely dangerous.

I did this back in 2004 on a trip to NZ after graduate school. That first drop is insane. If I close my eyes and concentrate I can _still_ recall the horrific sensation of free fall. My stomach lurched up into my throat as the wind roared up around me. In that moment I experienced the full power of the Earth's gravitational pull on my body. Intense experience.
