You are so right. I’m tired of Colin and Nick talking about his contract as if they have anything to do with it. We can bitch and moan all we want but at the end of the day, if you have a top 10 QB, which I think Brock is, he’s going to make a lot of money. To give it some perspective, I’m a Bills fan and remember when Jim Kelly held out for $12M a year. Wonder what he’d make right now…If they can get a deal done in the low 50’s it will be great. The salary cap keeps going up.

I'm from the UK where we don't really care what soccer stars earn and don't really get embroiled in these contract issues we just kind of see it and go "oh another player on inflated wages, cool" (unless they're on big money and underperform..then they get ripped to shreds on every corner of social media) That said..as a casual fan of the NFL for a few seasons Brock Purdy was the reason I started to follow the niners, I think the mr irrelevant stuff and how he's performed has been really cool and he looks like someone you can build a team around

Every comment section has at least one or two people who will say Brock’s maximum is $30 or $40 million a year. The going market for even an average QB right now is $45 million plus. Any QB on a franchise tag now is making $38 million fully guaranteed and it all hits the cap that same year. If you think no one else will pay Brock $50+ million after having historic efficiency numbers, after 4 playoff wins, after being an MVP finalist, after two NFC Championship appearances and a Super Bowl appearance, you’re completely delusional. It’s exactly what Joe Burrow did in his first couple of years.

It has a bad year all around for everyone on that team, minus Kittle. Purdy is the guy. He had a bad ending to the lions game but was absolutely cooking them

I hope his greedy agent doesn't screw up Purdy's career. $40M/yr in SF is a lot more than he's going to get from anyone else. Just because all the other QBs - Prescott, Murray, Watson, Love, Lawrence - are all grossly overpaid doesn't mean the 49ers should do the same. Purdy can make extra income from endorsements that come with team success, so I hope he gives the team a discount and doesn't let greed and ego cut short his time in SF.

@@akkibajaj705 I think Purdy is the best of the not-great QBs. He's better than the bums I listed above, but below the top guys Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Herbert. But Purdy has a flaw of not having a great arm, so no one is going to break the bank to sign him. Making things worse, he has developed a bad reputation of not being able to play in bad weather and not being a clutch performer. My opinion if he doesn't get extended by the 49ers is that he will end up a journeyman QB that everyone is willing to sign for cheap, but never make a big commitment to, like a Nick Foles.

I appreciate he takes accountability for his mistakes. I would hope the contract looks like 40-50 million for 3 years. It would be nice to see Purdy operate under a good offensive line before we make any major conclusions. Purdy is the best quarterback I've seen for the 49ers since Jeff Garcia.

Personally, I think instead of doing a long term deal they should consider a shorter deal for him. Something like 3 Year - $150 Million Total with $80 Guaranteed. If he regresses or just isn't what they need him to be then he isn't on the team long term and can be used as a Bridge QB to hopefully find someone better. The $150 Million looks like he is paid $50 Million a year. The $80 Million Guaranteed is more like $40 Million a year for 2 years. Also, $80 Million would be higher than the $76 Million Guaranteed to Aiyuk in his 4 year contract. Plus if Purdy proves himself in the next few seasons that he legitimately is the best QB for the 49ers then he can renegotiate a better contract in 2 years.

As far as Purdy "fitting in the 49ers system" it is more that Purdy is able to clean up Kyle' scheming messes by being so good at avoiding pressure. To me, that is on Kyle and Purdy still gets the bag because if Kyle wasn't so obsessed with trying to play 8D chess when Checkers is more than enough or the only thing that can work with the guys we have, we would not have the constant problem of giving games away in the 4th quarter which has been a thing for the entirety of Kyle's time as our HC.

Eli was being paid top money when he won. Peyton was still being paid pretty highly by the Broncos that last run, even though he wasn't good at that point. Truth is there is not all that much data because Brady and Mahomes have won such a large percentage of the Super Bowls the last 15 years.

Most of those aren’t realistic options. Paying Purdy 60 million a year isn’t the worst option because it’s not like his cap hit will be $60 million, but every other option means you basically slam shut your window for winning and pray you get someone like Jayden Daniels instead of someone like Zach Wilson. He won’t play on his rookie contract where he’s making less from Moody when he finally has the right to negotiate a deal, and he shouldn’t since he’s the biggest bargain in sports history at this point.
