Which other Jamaican has had the impact that Bob Marley has had? Go ahead… I’ll wait…
Bob Marley contributed so much to Jamaica, even almost sacrificing his life to spread his message of peace and love… but he’s still not a National Hero.
Whether or not you agree on if he’s fit to be a National Hero, you can’t deny his impact on Jamaica in so many ways.
What do you think? Is it time to make him a National Hero?

Jamaicans need to study their history to learn about their national heroes and their contribution to the future of Jamaica. Respect

I live in Kentucky, USA. I'm white, 72 years old. I don't care what anyone says about Bob Marley. He was a hero. Noone here are for the people. They are for their self. What does it matter how many kids he had. He cared for all of them. If it was ok with his wife, then stay out of it. God loves him and he loves God. He is a hero in my eyes. YES he should be a hero there.

Gentle people, when I was taking Common Entrance Exams years ago there was an emphasis on a subject called Comprehension. I realize that some people are ready to attack Kalilah without understanding what she is saying. There are many great people who were the foundation of Reggae music and they spread the genre far and wide. We pay homage to them and the respect, love and admiration will forever be there. Bob Marley however took the message much further than just music. He charted the course in a number of Socio-political and Socio-economic ways which have inspired many both nationally and internationally. Please listen to what Kalilah is saying and leave the emotions out of your thought process. This video is not just about music. It is about a legacy that has touched many and varied facets of our social landscape.

Those who are denying this fact are closely aligned with our colonizers who's allegiance to the crown is undeniable. Bob's introduced the world to Jamaican culture and the world responded by making Jamaica a hot bed for the entire tourist industry and beyond.

This should not even be a question when we have politicians who have never done anything for Jamaica are given national hero status, and this man has done so much for Jamaica and still continues to do.

For the fact that one of Jamaica’s national heroes married his first cousin and another of the heroes attempted genocide against Rastafari, morality ought not to be used to preclude Bob Marley from rightfully becoming a national hero.

strongly disagree ...we have a history of giving popular people undue credit...we overlooked Cuffy and Captain Cojo and many other true freedom fighters and gave two politicians hero status and now we want to talk about giving hero status to musicians and sports men

I get the appeal of wanting Bob Marley to be a national hero. I am not a fan of him being a national hero, but I wouldn't be mad or disappointed if that honor was bestowed on him . According to the opm website " The honour of the Order of National Hero may be conferred upon any person who was born in Jamaica or is, or at the time of his or her death was, a citizen of Jamaica and rendered to Jamaica service of a most distinguished nature." That being said Bob Marley would be a good fit. However I think the term hero can be a used a little too loosely sometimes and in modern society can be a little watered down. If a man runs a couple hundred meters races of scores a few world cup goals should he be considered a hero? Likewise if he wrote a few songs that yes appealed to our consciousness and may have spawned movements is he truly a hero? If you ask me the real heros are the ones we take for granted and are often the ones we never know. What about the doctors and nurses who saved lives during the pandemic or just in general? What is more important a nice song a actual lives of people? What about those people who developed vaccines to save lives? Polio was a horrible disease and it's now virtually irradicated. What about those who developed new techniques in agriculture so that we can have good quality food and nutrition feeding a bigger population? I tell you this If a Bob Marley is playing and I am starving I don't have time to think about the lyrics of his songs. I say all of this to say that the real heros are those who save lives, those who cure and prevent us of disease and those who prevent us from starving to death. That being said I have two people in mind for National Hero over Bob Marley. One is Mary Sacole : Although 'Jamaican' she was born in the island at a time we were under the British empire and is considered British in some books so she might not even fit the criteria but she did save actual lives of dying people during the war. Honoring someone like secole with such a high honor also forever honors our nurses who have to deal with the vomit, urine and faeces of us all when we are desperately ill and they are trying to keep us alive. The other person I have in mind Dr. Thomas P. Lecky. Lecky developed the first breeds of cattle indigenous to Jamaican and this led to the creation of the diary industry here in the island. Can you say self reliance and feeding the nation. So again I ask in the grand schemes of things a healthy population and a population that is not starving is much more critical but then again this an unpopular opinion. I will let it rest here. Whether Bob Marley is a hero or not doesn't affect the price of rice.

He laid his life on the line for this nation at the price of his family and so much more But it’s because he loves Rastafari so they keep denying him. Not wanting to empower the movement of Rastafari any further than it has empower its self #fixuplife #ovakumnation

No Hero! Bob Morley is not a Hero, and I don't know where you're getting you info from? But you're so misinformed on what you're saying. Bob Morley! He was not the foundation of Reggae or Jamaican Music, or was the first one to take it World Wide. These Person were doing it long before Bob came on the seen! Prince Buster and the Skatalites, followed by Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Decker, Millie Small, The Upsetters, Alton Ellis, Owen Gray Derrick Morgan, Ken Boothe, and much more. London was the HQ, for music in the 60's and 70's and 80's; and some of the greatiest and most infuliancial Bands and singer was on Chris Blackwell Island Record, such as Marianne Faithfull, Milli Small, The Spencer Davis Group, Jethro Tull, Traffic, King Crimson, Cat Steven Roxy Music, and U2...If anyone in the music business should be an hero it's Chris Blackwell! I know his true story, but thats for another time, because most of what you're saying about Bob would not be possible without Cris Blackwell! Now back to the world of Reggae! Jimmy Cliff was touring Europe and Africa long before Bob, Desmond Decker, Jimmy Cliff, Nicky Thomas, Millie Small had Chart Success in Europe before Bob Marley. There is ao many others who have pave the way and make it possible for Bob Marley. The album Catch A Fire which launch his career was overdubbed with guitar solo and other instrument, which was Blackwell idea, the marketing strategy of where he should performed, was from Blackwell exerience with his rock bands on his label..I think before you make statement like what you're making you need to do more reserch, at least I work for Island Record...

But that's like saying that Serena and Venus' talent really wasn't there and it was their father who did all the heavy lifting. You as well as I know that Bob was the one to truly bring Reggae to the forefront of cultural consciousness

@@quickslices3012 No matter how much tallent you have, If you don't get the exposure the world won't know about you, Blackwell gave him the money to record Catch a Fire album. I don't think you can understand what was going on back in those days. Reggae was born in Jamaica, but promoted and grew in England, London was the launching pad for most music back then. People in Jamaica just jump on the banwagon, after Marley got big in Europe...
