The argument with Maguire is while he wasn’t great for Utd he never let England down. Rashford form however is the same for England as it is for Utd. Jamie calls Rashford a “luxury” player but if England seriously want to win the euros then they cannot afford a “luxury” player who doesn’t work hard for the team. If you are the best player in the world then maybe this is ok but Rashford is no where near that category even when at his best.

I think the question is more - should England play a 3241 in which case who is better than Grealish for the left wing? It is either Kane fc or Bellingham fc. Bowen is good at crossing, as is Palmer/Trent so we just need to get someone like Chamberlain interchanging with them and then we stand a chance of getting the goals we need.

Rashford doesn’t deserve a place in the squad. Even if form doesn’t matter (and it doesn’t to Southgate) there are enough options up front and this tournament isn’t a rehab session for a player struggling for form.

3:23 "Rashford is one of the best talents we've ever produced" I think that may be the most ridiculous thing anybody has ever said! Yes, I'm even putting that above Martin Samuel's claim that England were massive overachievers and one of sport's great underdog stories after we beat a very average Sweden side at the 2018 World Cup! What is it about Rashford that makes people in the media turn a blind eye to his terribleness? Why can't some people accept that this exciting teenager who seemed to have the potential to be a top player hasn't trained on and has been exposed as a very poor Premier League player? Rashford has been anything from below average to completely useless in the vast majority of the games he's played over the past seven years and he's been particularly awful for 14 months and counting and anyone who thinks otherwise clearly only watches him on MOTD and gets influenced by what Rashford's friends in the media say about him! Southgate seems to like Bowen and there's no way he'll take Rashford instead of him. If Rashford keeps playing like he has since the end of February 2023 and everyone is fit, then there's no way Southgate will take him to The Euros if he can only pick a 23-man squad and I wouldn't bet money on him taking him if he can pick as many as 26 players. People seem to have the impression that Southgate loves Rashford and always puts him in the starting line-up but do you know how many games Rashford has started in the four major tournaments he's been to? Two in total and one of those was a dead rubber! Do you know how many England games Rashford has started since the middle of October 2020? Six!
