Only in a culture like ours will celibacy seem disgusting. The truth is, celibacy has a long history in the world; from young girls whose parents dedicated to God at birth, to certain rabbis who lived a celibate and aesthetic life. They weren't seen as strange or disgusting then, in fact, people held them in high esteem. Jesus did mention the merits of not marrying, He says "others do not marry due to the kingdom of heaven." referring to Himself and others after Him.

There are religious groups that are other than the Catholic church in which there are elders who manage to run a household, a business and the congregation and actually, as the Bible points out, one of the requirements for being a pastor is the ability to successfully run a household for those who balance work, spiritual activities and raising kids are in a much better position to stand on a platform and dole out scriptural advice on how to embody Christian principles in family life

When I read the Catholic tradition such as the Codex of the Canon Law Can. 277 and Can. 599, I see that the Roman Catholic Church teaches demonic doctrines as she forbids priests to marry. Please read 1 Timothy 4:1-3: "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth."

NO. They can not divide their duty. Duties of a husband takes from total concentration on GOD. May people live a celibate life. Deep commitment to a hobby expends your engery. Even a deep belief in a religion. Sex starts in the mind. Keeping the brain occupied with particular issues, no time to think about sex. Many are obsessed with sex, as have no other committed causes.

All I know is that celibacy, at least for the catholic church is dangerous for both the priests as well as their "flock". Lust is a dangerous thing and if it is avoidable (I.e. Taking a wife) it should be done, both the jew's of old as well as our Muslim brothers do not have celibate priests, why? Post Christian religions warned priests about celibacy. Muhammad stated "Nay, they made it up themselves." And Baha'u'llah, Baha'i Faith, warned monks "Enter ye into wedlock, that after you someone may fill your place. Why did Our Lord not get married then? Why did He remain unmarried? He didn't and He is the eternal High Priest. The office of the priesthood doesn't allow for marriage. If you do some research you'll see exactly why.

He never exercise His Divinity before His death and resurrection! read the four books of the holy gospel. and if you are a priest who always having lustful thoughts in your heart then do not enter into priesthood or you may go out from priesthood first before you engage to any sexual actions. you are free anyway. please just follow the natural process and don't make a mess so that you'll not be messy. simple as that...

Celibacy is cruel and evil. Only reason for this is church doesn’t want to pay for priests families. Perceiving that truth shows that celibacy is purely cruelty. The church deprives priests of love and joy. Cruel practices such as celibacy are the root of all of Catholic issues. Even if the rates of abuse are similar to other populations, that abuse was covered up was definitely due to the institution of celibacy which enforces the concept that a priest is inhuman and above reproach. Stop this institution now.

@@Phantom-xp2co are you Catholic? I doubt it. God calls us all to live chaste lives, some he calls to live celibate lives. For some, they can use their 'genitals' for procreation. For others they can love God more fully by opting NOT to use their 'genitals' to procreate, but to offer themselves to God as a living sacrifice.

The Bible clearly states that humans should "be fruitful and multiply and fill the Earth", and that chastity is for people who can't fully love God when they are involved in a family. So you should embrace chastity as last resort, once you realize you are not capable of having a healthy family according to God's will: hence why many priests and popes had wives and kids during the first millenia of Christianity

Other faith traditions have married (male) priests, female ministers, etc. They are in the same (poor) shape as the Catholic Church! Giving your life totally to Jesus, (yes!) including your sexuality, is the biggest sacrifice that a man can give to Jesus, and the church. Getting rid of celibacy in the Catholic Church will solve nothing! It won’t lapsed Catholics, not one, return to their faith. Most people are simply benevolent about “faith”.

its not for you and me to think about the impossibility. its God's grace! human said: its impossible! God said: its possible! what should human do is obey. Obedient heart is what God wants from us? if sex is always in your heart, then sex is your God! Poor you, sex organ cannot save you from eternal damnation. if Jesus is always in your heart (1st commandment), am telling you now, heaven is yours. jonny777bike ----- Very true. Pope Leo XIV - a German Pope - was also the Roman Prelate who started to forbid the Roman Catholic Priests to marry, formalised in synod took place in 1049. Before that time, ALL Roman Catholic priests, just like Eastern Catholic Orthodox priests, could marry. The reason of Pope Leo XIV’s decision was land holding. He wanted to make sure that Church properties were not being divided among the offsprings of the priests, or worst, offsprings of the Bishops. Can we imagine how much poorer the Roman Catholic Church if the Cluniac Orders - the recipient of a vast sum of endowment from William, the Duke of Aquitaine in 910 - had his land holding divided by successive Bishops? This was especially true because the Roman Catholic Church wanted to be independant of any Political (and temporal) entity. The Roman Pope didn’t want a situation where the Patriarchy was beholden to a certain Emperor or ruler, like the Patriarch of Antioch and Constantinople under the influence of the Byzantine Emperors. That was the real reason.
