Should Christians Play YU-GI-OH!?

For TCG Magic the Gathering is decent but expensive on their “Arena” simulator. For in general: Board games I find are most fun. Catan is a staple and there are hundreds of other good games out there.

​@@CHRISTIAN_GAMER The healthiest Yu-Gi-Oh equivalent is probably Mind Bug. It isn't collectable so significantly cheaper. But it still fits that CCG niche.

There are several archetypes that use the denizens of heaven and hell. Infernoids are typically the greater demons of hell, such as Beelzabub, Asteroth, etc. Burning abyss is Dante's Inferno. Chaos is about walking the line between light and dark. The Dogmatica and the Despian archetypes essentially tell a story about a church becoming corrupted be evil. Light sworn is essentially the forces of heaven. The Qli's are essentially the old tesiment interpretation of angels. Of course, there are many generic fairies and fiends that are religious references as well. Just some reference material for the subject. 😁

Fairy type monsters are basically Angels, and there's even the Darklord deck which is fallen angels (They're Fairy type but DARK attribute), the boss monster is Lucifer (in Japan at least, TCG kinda cut out his name). There's also the Agent deck and Parshath deck as another Fairy/Angel decks, also some ritual decks like Cyber Angel and Herald.

Yugioh most certainly isn't satanic, it really doesn't promote one religion over the others at all. However, many archetypes will incorporate traits from mythologies relating to Hinduism, Shintoism, Christianity, etc. You have some decks that reference holy figures (lightsworn, Parshath), while others reference demons and fallen angels (Archfiend, Darklord). Really it's up to the individual as to their level of comfortability in playing the game. Besides, it's not like you are forced to play darker themed decks. If you wanted, you could play a deck full of cute fluffy animals (Purrely) and do pretty well in the current meta. That is part of the reason why the game is so fun. But yeah, I get that the speed and complexity of the modern competitive scene is rough to deal with at times.

I didn't really had problem with cards that glorified demons because I just played other stuff. That's what I do when I play mtg commander. What I didn't like more was the pacing of modern yugioh and the fact that so much of mechanics where tied to stuff like tributing and ritual summoning. Mechanically, a lot of that is the same mtg, but a lot of the flavor can be bothersome. I do definitely want to build some kind cartoon deck tho.

Imo nobody should play physical Yugioh while the game is wildly expensive, master duel is fine though

Yu gi oh (the modern) realy gives you that anime experrience, because the power level of everything is so high. If you are decent, youll lose a lot, but the wins will feel much better than most other games in my experience. Also ygo is extremely complex, in comparison to lorcana or magic, its super hard since you are most of times going through most of your hand, if not the deck every time you execute the gameplan correcly, only flesh and blood comes close to that, since you are playing always your entire hand throughout both your and opponents turns, but that game is built for absolute minimal advantages to stack over a lot and lot of turns, which is pretty much exact opposite of yugioh.

Also for the christian point of view, idk just look at it as when solomon bound the demons and used them to build the temple or something, its that sort of thing.

i think that unless an individual is directly using cards to shine a negative light on faith that theyre harmless as its simply a childrens trading card game and theres much more productive things one could be doing with their time than accusing cardboard drawings of being the devil. just my opinion though.

@@kapwns quite the opposite. I think it'd be insulting to think that God doesn't care so much about me, even to the point of what games I play. I know that God cares about me that deeply and intimately. There's a image out there of God being an aloof character that is disconnected to us and with that image in mind, I can see God being that way.

Like how a parent wouldn't be concerned with their child's favorite color but that doesn't mean they don't care about the child. Personally I think if the bible is supposed to be an accurate representation of your god, he isn't moral, let alone worthy of worship. Furthermore I find religion and a god to be unnecessary, superfluous and ridiculous but I'm not here to argue. Believe what you want. Anyways to the point-I just thought it made your god out to be quite petty to care about something so trivial as a card game, that even as an atheist, I needed to speak up for the poor guy. I guess there wouldnt be much left for the channel if you agreed.

The archetype is a direct reference to the divine comedy specifically Inferno Cantus aka Dante's inferno.

As someone from Portugal and a very Catholic family, as long as you can separate the fiction from reality, it honestly shouldn't matter.

Literally anyone can play lol. You aren't killing people, you aren't summoning demons, you aren't sacrificing anything or anyone. If you're still held up by this. Ask God. If he says no then don't. If he tells someone else yes that just means he thinks they're cooler than you

@JacobGevedon you're not idolising them nor are you taking them seriously, they are things of fiction. They aren't biblically accurate or anything friend. If you truly believe they are a sinful recreation then just ask God, I haven't had any issues personally so yeah but just ask within or go to a confession box and ask a priest if a card game can be sinful
