Should Christians Pray the Imprecatory Psalms?

Psalms which call upon God to destroy, curse, or judge the wicked...can we pray these? Do these contradict the teachings of Jesus? In this week's video, Chad explains how we not only can but should pray the imprecatory psalms.

I agree. People forget that God hates evil and he punishes those who enact such acts on their own kind. We pray and leave it to God and its up to him what he chooses

I appreciated the imprecatory psalms no more than on the terrorist attacks in Israel on 7 October. It gives a voice to those greatly hurt by evil. It is a cry for justice which will be met by 1) the cross or 2) in the last judgment.

I have been using the psalms as a guide for prayer for many many yeas. I always cringe when I come to the psalms which talk about destroying the enemies of 'David'. So I appreciate this viedo as it encourges me to think differently. Such a good video.

For the past 60 years of my life I see these Psalms as teaching how to war against pricipalities and powers in the heavenlies. I cannot not pray against wicked actors on earth but always pray that our Father would also draw every man's heart to Jesus that all might be saved. I see the wicked as prisoners of war in bondage to sin. I pray that they would be liberated just as I was liberated by the gospel. No on ever asked to be born in to a fallen world.

@@jimkreegerjr.8813 I am not being argumentative, but your statemernt makes no sense to me. I have NEVER "ratified" Adam's sin. I have been the victim of his sin my entire life. "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me." - Psa 51:5 NKJV This was forced on me. I did nothing to earn or deserve this. Did I require rescuing from the effects of sin? Absolutely. But no choice of mine got me there.

As long as that prayer is not with malice and hate towards someone or from hardness of heart. David prayed those because he Loved Gods law and he was zealous. He was a man after Gods own heart Before. Whatever you pray it should be thst the fire wod bring into a sorrow that leafs to godly repentance.

My opinion based on my serious study. AGAIN, My Opinion based on serious study. No! We are to pray for our enemy. God has made it clear, under the N.T. Covenant that He will Judge, He WILL punish. Our COMMANDMENT IS TO LOVE OUR ENEMY. Others don’t have to agree, but as a disciple of Christ Jesus it IS NOT MY place to pray for anyones destruction. Doesn’t mean I agree or like how my enemy treats me, but IT IS a command to love them. Pray for them. Remember: “What Is the Law?” ANYTHING GOD COMMANDS and the Apostles were given authority that means when they command us as well we are to obey. “What Is Sin? The breaking of Gods commands. Something to keep in mind when making decisions.

There is repetition and there is VAIN repetition. When we pray the Psalms, we are praying the Word of God. Is that vain? Of course not. We are spending time in the words that give us life.
