Thank you brother Chad for placing the metaphors of "children" and "yoke" in context, and the magnificent promise of Jesus that if we come to him he will give us rest and peace. This is our covenant, the new and eternal one, an agreement between God and his children. This agreement, however, is not all peace and love. As you highlight for us, Jesus explains that he knows his father, and indeed he does, because like his father, Jesus makes clear his stance on divine vengeance-- he promises it for those who don't keep the covenants. We Christians are not just wont to skip past Matthew 11: 20-24, we turn away from discussing it in context. His father dispensed terrible punishments, from the grotesque state into which he rendered humanity at its inception for sin in the garden, to the mass extinction by flood, to wiping out of entire cities (Sodom and Gomorrah), and destroying a woman by transformation into salt after being told to "flee for your life! Do not look behind you" at the horrific destruction of a city. Like father like son, Jesus too gets angry and threatens massacres, as you cited Jesus not just denouncing the populations in Chorazin and Bethsaida, but saying they would be wiped out so severely "that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.” Everybody including children are destroyed and sent to hell. Jesus signs on to this terror for sinners, just as he signs on heavenly rewards and "rest" for followers. It is both dear brother, both.

I loved your linkage of "rest" to the Sabbath. Of course a "Sabbath rest" is not just "time off work". As with all of his covenants, it includes remembering: remember the Sabbath day; rainbow, I will remember My covenant; bread, do this is remembrance of me. I think it's worth noting that his reference to "little children" is within the context of his relationship with his Father. When Jesus says his Father has "hidden these things from the wise", we can easily discover that his death on the cross and resurrection was not foreseen by even the wisest sage. And yet the apokalyptic teachings in Zechariah 9:11 "I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit" could make no sense without a literal resurrection. As others have pointed out, a yoke is typically defined as a two-animal device. For instance, Paul warns us against becoming "unequally yoked". As you point out, the yoke Jesus puts on us is "kind" and light - He carries the heavy.

It's confusing how Jesus says "all things have been handed over to me" and to "come to [him]" to find rest for our souls, but Hebrews 4:9 calls to enter God's rest, saying, "..there remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience." The delineation between father and son isn't clear with this, seemingly. Can this only be answered as overlap of the 'trinity?' Or perhaps, it is God's rest, but jurisdiction has been passed to His son, who reigns over the Sabbath? Either/or, it's interesting how the writer of Hebrews doesn't call out the Son and Lord of the Sabbath in that passage, who commanded us to come to him.

Hebrews 4 and 3 is connected as 1 chapter. It's connected to the good news meaning the gospel. Remember the parable of the seeds Not all who hear the gospel or listen to the holy spirit got5 saved because of their rebellion. Holy Spirit convicts and leads people to Christ. What I realize is this, you have people trying to work their way into heaven. The aim is to sin so little that they can enter heaven. Basically they are working. Remember the punishment in Genesis with Adam. He is going to work. Creation is pointing to the gospel. Creation is pointing to Jesus. True rest of found on Christ

For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. Your heresy reminds me of how St. Irenaeus said the Gnostic heretics of his own day would pick and choose Scriptures that they thought supported their falsehood. Irenaeus used the example of a mosaic of a king--a mosaic made up of many fine stones and gems. The Scriptures are like that mosaic, only the Gnostics took it apart and rearranged all the gems and stones (i.e., biblical verses) into the image of a dog. The point is obvious, and applicable to the very way in which you, completely ignoring the overarching narrative of salvation history, have simply chosen a few verses and rearranged them into the image of (canine) heresy.
