Should Girls Get Time Off School For Period Pains & Has Attitudes To Periods Changed? | Loose Women

A mum was shocked to find her daughters’ school taking the stance that ‘the time of the month’ was not a reason for time off school, despite her two girls suffering from severe menstrual cramps. But do you think period pains warrant time off school? Brenda was doubled over in pain during her period but still had to attend school, and Coleen thinks only those with doctor's notes should get time off.

As someone who has suffered with endometriosis since I was 11 I agree with Colleen, if you have a drs note acknowledging that you have a menstrual condition then yes you should be allowed to stay home during your period. The amount of times I was sent home from school in agony was insane. I’m now 26 and have had the mirena for nearly 2 years now and not had a period for a year it’s been lush.

If men had periods they would have had time off and more. Men & Women are biologically not equal but different so each have different needs to be catered for. No-one should be expected to work if they are bleeding & in pain! It’s to do with dignity also where personal space is required. However both are equal in terms of being human but women are not treated the same still in terms of doing same job but paid lower than men in some places. Men suffer mid life crisis but they don’t talk about this in media. Menopausal Karen’s here should not be continuing the suffering bcos they did or judge those who have period pains. Men haven’t grown up & still feel threatened by women’s biological right to rest. UK and US are still in the dark ages.

I have never heard so much talk about periods and the possible pain that some girls have, and yet it seems things are worse today than years ago. I'm 71, we just got on with it. I don't ever remember talking about periods even to my friends. I never had pain but used to miss quite a few periods, even went about 4 months without one in my teens. Because of this I thought I'd possibly have trouble conceiving but I was lucky to have two children. I went on the pill at about 16 or 17 to regulate me. Only when I was starting the menopause did I say to a new employer that I was having heavy periods because of this and I'd maybe need to use the toilet facilities more often than normal. Luckily my periods stopped quite quickly. Basic sanitary protection isn't expensive and with a lot of families they just need to get their priorities right. My family was never well off but there was never a problem getting supplies. My Daughter has a lot of pain, she's working so can't take time off, she has to work through it.
