This is very encouraging post video. Thank you. I started this journey of becoming a pilot in 2017. Only had done three introductory flights and got hooked. I had started my flight training yet just to balance my finances and had to make sure I don't waste my time. At age 51, this will be my year to get started. My ultimate goal is to fly for regionals as a first officer. I gave myself 5 years to complete everything. Currently, studying for rhe written, instrument test.

I’m gonna make the obligatory comment here saying unless you plan to completely fast track your aviation career the hiring market may look completely different for better or worse by the time you’re actually qualified

Man it is all about who you know in avation , so you have to network hard . Cause it is hard no one wants to talk to you,you have to sneak in the back . I moved to MI a year and a half ago finished my PPL , trying to get my A&P , bought a j-3 cub for building time . Bought a GlaStar experimental kit to build to go towards A&P , also to understand every working part of an aircraft. Still no one want’s to talk about OTJ training , but all i hear from the shop’s FBO’s is if we could find some one teachable /show’s up everyday we would hire they . But i’m not from around here and they don’t know me so no job offers 🤯

I've been battling with aviation for the past 4 years. Got all my ratings SE and ME and still sitting at 350hrs and can't seem to find anybody that is willing to hire me. Sometimes I have doubts if I would even consider incetivating my children to get into aviation.

If the idea of being a pilot (recreational, for personal business, or professionally) appeals to you, it's absolutely worth the effort. Having a skill is better than not having a skill. Flying opens up a huge segment of the earth's geography to those of us who fly. The negative input usually comes from people who don't want to fly and don't want others to either. Ignore them. Go become the person you want to be. Be a pilot!

Excellent video! Also, for those that want to go part 61, I’m currently going this route and a point to touch on is finding a mentor. I currently work as an IT manager which pays for all of my flight training and my CFI/mentor was an IT manager for 20+years before he transitions into the airline industry. Be active in your local flight clubs and connect with folks. It goes such a long way

I'm in the exact same boat but behind you. I graduate in the fall. My plan is to find a flexible flight instructor near me and just try to work my way through school while still living like a college kid to take on no debt. It might mean long nights, but I bet we can cash roll it in a year if we try. (and find a good instructor)

@jesusu.464716 күн бұрын
This ^^^ and I guess this is in the USA. In Europe we do not have the 1500 hour rule for the airlines, but it is even worse since the market is more limited. I didn't spend more than 100k to spend the next decade asskissing the airlines for a bus driver salary and never sleep at home. Airlines have become a no-no for me at the moment. I'd rather work other jobs like fire fighting pilot or flight instructor.

Jamie Beckett here. I got into aviation as a very financially unsuccessful musician. No regrets. Aviation reset my career goals and put me in close touch with a huge number of Type A people who helped me become a true success as a pilot and a human being. I've never met anyone who regretted getting into aviation. Not once. That says something about the pursuit and its worth.

Well, a close friend is a pilot recruiter for AA, they are headed for no hiring, SWA is now on a 3 yr freeze, Delt and UA coming soon. The "shortage" is a scam. Far to many new pilots in the pipeline, a few majors are on hiring freeze indefinately as are some regionals and charter. Theres 45% more pilots than jobs. There is no shortage of pilots. Same with trucking. Its not worth going in debt nearly 6 figs. By 2033 they want to reduce crews at all airlines by 50% and push AI into the role much more, believe me, FedEx has tested 8 flights in their 208 cessnas, no pilot, no loading crew, just bots and a pilotless plane... AI will replace 90% of jobs by 2045-2050, thats the goal of the elitz and ceo's.

You asked. Former pilot here. Take my words seriously. First, most people have no business being a pilot. It is a terrible career for family and friend relationships alike. It requires a level of focus and discipline that very few men have today. Women can be hired, yes, but they are not required to meet the same hiring standards expected of men. DEI has been rampant in aviation since the 90's. Airlines will hold the hand of a woman or minority that can fog a mirror until they can be qualified. They will pay for any additional training a DEI prospect needs, so they can say, "see, we have this many XXXX's in our company." It is about "identity," and not so much "ability." There is no limit to the effort an airline will make to get a female pilot into the right seat. Are there super qualified female pilots? Yes. They are very rare, and almost always are former military, where you and I paid for their unlimited training, so the military was able to say, "look how many female pilots we have!" Not long ago, a female pilot did a great job of landing a 737 with one engine out after the fan came apart. She is a former military pilot. Sadly, the women, once qualified, can leave to start families, and other minorities have chronic health issues at a far higher rate than a majority hire will have, so they lose their pilot medical and leave the airline. So, unless there is nothing else that you know how to do, and you don't care about having a stable family life, and you don't mind the employer propping up others to compete against you, then sure, flying is great. Aviation is very much a pyramid, where all of the students and instructors are at the bottom with the rest of general aviation, and the top levels are senior captains and corporate pilots. That pyramid shape means that only a few can make it to that upper level. Now, they are having trouble getting young people to enter the business, and no wonder. The internet has made it possible to know the downsides of the business. You will often hear the term, "pilot shortage." There is no such thing. There IS a shortage of people who are willing to spend the time and money to qualify for a job with those conditions and pay, a job that is in realty, only a marginal job, and one that takes up nearly every aspect of your life, as well. Trust me, I LIVED aviation for many years. It becomes everything that makes you an individual. In the early 70's, when I was 21, it was like a dream job. After deregulation and low cost carriers came along, the entire business became much different. Can you run an airline on entitled people who were having trouble making the grade, and needed to get a boost from the airline to make it? That's what they are trying to do today. If you want that, then airline flying is for you. In the words of King Hamlet, "Mark me!"
