Literally when I heard that question that my girlfriend doesn't speak Spanish. When I reacted to that I was like what kind of question is that. For me thats truly saying that you don't like your girlfriend.

If the lady has a good relationship with at least one of her parents, I actually really like the idea of the guy asking the lady's parents for her hand in marriage. Call me old fashioned if you like, but I think it shows respect. My husband I married fairly young -- he was 19 when we got engaged, just 21 when we got married; I was 21 when we got engaged, almost 23 when we got married -- but have been married 26 years. He talked to my mom and asked if he could marry me about 6+ weeks before he actually proposed. She has always appreciated that he did that, and it started out their relationship as mother-in-law and son-in-law on an excellent foot.

Mamahs, please tell me - would you consider it offensive or a positive thing if a gringa like me automatically started speaking/replying in Spanish if I heard it being spoken around me? I speak Spanish as a second language, but I always, ALWAYS hesitate to switch over to Spanish because I don't want to do the wrong thing. I'm talking about when I'm in a taqueria or the middle of a Mexican/Guatemalan/Salvadoran market or someplace where Spanish is clearly the dominant language and English is pretty much checked at the door (unless you're really, really white like me and people assume you don't speak the - Spanish - language). What do you think, Mamahs?
@tspencer6616 ай бұрын
Speak Spanish. If you’re in a Spanish speaking environment and you speak Spanish, speak Spanish. (There are many videos on KZbin where white people are fluent in other languages. They often surprise the native speakers with their language skills.) I’m African American, but look Puerto Rican. I always have people speak to me in Spanish. It’s always in a grocery store. Thank goodness I know enough Spanish to help others. I am definitely not fluent.

Most definitely speak Spanish! They will appreciate you trying because as much as non spanish speakers struggle with Spanish...non English speakers struggle with a 2nd language as well.

@@feliciaesquivel5898 Thank you! Even though I'm 50 now, that unknowing/indecision about "which language??" makes me feel like it's my first day in high school all over again. So strange.

What does xochitl even mean by 85% of people in Mexico speak English? That’s not even possible!
@christopherh48915 ай бұрын
because they learn it in school. it may not be super fluent but a lot of spanish speakers do know or can understand english even the undocumented ones and a lot of the times they dont let anyone know they can because it means people are more than likely to just leave them be lol
