I would be ok with that but this situation is much more sinister. He is dating a girl that has a child and wants to rent to her. He is basically holding this womans life in his hands and is dangling a home he knows she can't afford over her head. When she doesn't do what he wants or the relationship goes south, he just threatens eviction of her and her child. Even If his intentions aren't bad, this is a bad situation for her.

It's not your wife, it's just your girlfriend. 3. If just helping her out financially was the only problem, they could just live together and split the costs... Clearly from this call he or she does not want to live together. So, the best solution thought of was to rent out another of his properties. She was going to have to pay rent somewhere. 4. He actually said he intended to "dangle a carrot as incentive" but then said he doesnt think they'll ever be able to pay this off. So... he's basically attempting to entrap this single mother whom he has no intention of marrying, knowing she'll be "stuck" with him long term whether she likes it or not. She wont want to lose the house that she's "invested to own", so she'll stay in the relationship longer than healthy, until she ends up being evicted for non payment and still losing all the money she's paid toward the house. The only way this man isnt a complete monster is if this was her hare-brained idea, but it seems to be all his.

My first girlfriend many years ago couldn’t afford anything. I ended up paying for everything for her. After awhile, you get stuck in a miserable situation. You’re stuck with the decision of stop giving money and watch the other person collapse, or keep eating it for that person. After that relationship ended, I used finances as a deal breaker when looking for my next relationship. I did not care how much they made, so I wasn’t looking for selfish gains but, I did care that she could pay her own way.

Bad idea. How much debt is she in? His girlfriend needs to prove to him that she can support herself and get herself out of debt herself. Doing the rent to own deal is bad for him. He loses in this situation because I would be very wary about how she will pay for the rent. What if they break up, will he be ok with her bringing other men to the rental? This sounds like it could be a relationship between a man who uses his money to control a woman. And a woman who struggles financially and is desperate to buy a house. I mean, maybe it’s not be it’s definitely a possibility. When you depend on someone financially you’re more likely to stay in an unhealthy relationship. And if she invests her money in the property then it’ll be harder for her to leave. I don’t think it’s a good idea at all. If she wants to be a home owner, she should so it in a way that does not require her to rely on a male. (ie., get a better job, keep saving, gov program etc.)

Just because one is a homeowner and the other isn't doesn't mean one person in the relationship should live free at their place when they decide to live together before any kind of financial merging. If you reverse the situation and he wanted to move into her place, he’d be expected to make some contribution or else be that loser boyfriend people tell her to dump. Rent while living with each other yes, but just while you guys are living and sleeping together. Charging your GF rent is not a recipe for breaking up! My gf wanted to pay rent because we do not want to split ownership of the property so if we split it will not be complicated because I own the place! It is a great idea because if you really think you will be together in the long run then this is the best solution to save her money and invest in our relationship in the future. She is a great partner and she understands that she is saving money on rent and investing in our future.

How is he being taken advantage of when he’s the one throwing his assets around like that? Even if he was being manipulated/used for his money (there is no proof that he is) it’ll be his fault for not extending his assets for her to take advantage of in the first place.

He offered for me and my daughter to move in with him. He said he knew I didnt have much money and it would save me money. I told him that was a bad decision, i didnt believe in shacking up and I was doing fine. He got insulted and we got in a fight and broke up. I never told him that one of the reasons why my money was low qaa because I owned a property in another state and was paying taxes on it. Years later he found out I moved back to my home state and lived in the house and was asking me to get back together and he could move in. I blocked him
