Corn is used to make ethanol, hence the use for round up to dry corn faster before harvesting. Corn for human consumption isn’t sprayed it’s dried in the silos to get the perfect moisture levels.

Crazy, isn't it? $20 for 10 seeds and it's technically an OP (open pollinated) variety, so you can save seeds from it. There's someone in my tomato group who bought the seeds already. I think that it's a ridiculous price and this will be my last year trading seeds with people. I don't want any GM messing up my heirlooms.

Il question if you’ll get a true tomatoe clone from those seeds, even being open pollinated if they do you grow it yourself, share it but not sell it

I get your point, but I am not going to take the position that all GE's are bad and evil. I have always thought edible plant crosses could be a great way to use the GE technology and create some interesting and even healthier varieties as this tomato shows. It's being aware of the crosses that are a bit crazier, as I mentioned about all other known GE's. Plus again, this is one tomato variety and folks are acting as though all other crops and varieties are now susceptible to being GE's and that all our tomatoes are now questionable when that is just not the case, as people will have to make a real effort in order to start crossing this with other varieties and there will certainly be legalities involved in those trying to sell them too, that is where I see the most problems.

@@rickthelian2215 I sell starter plants and plan on selling seeds after this year, so it's a no go. I wouldn't pay that much for seeds, anyhow.

@@theUrbanGardener I'm planning on selling seeds after this growing season. I can't have them up here. I can't have the risk of them crossing.

@@theUrbanGardener I think where my trepidation comes into play is that I trade a lot of seeds with people. I have no way of knowing how well someone may, or may not have, isolated their bioengineered plants from heirloom plants. It's not that I think GM are bad or evil. Quite the contrary. I think that they have their place...look at what they did for the vitamin A deficiency in Africa when they created golden rice! But being a seed seller/plant seller, I have to proceed with caution. I understand the science behind creating these bioengineered wonders. I'm cool with all that. I'm just not cool with being, potentially, shut down because I traded seeds with someone who didn't isolate their plants properly.

Baker Creek had a Purple Galaxy Tomato on their Catalogue, but Norfolk questioned it being from their stock, a seed grower tried to pass it off as a new variety, Norfolk had it tested and it came out as their genetics in it. Baker Creek never sold it but where promoting it in their Catalogue Norfolk sells the purple 1o seeds USD$20

Interesting ...but I am into the old-fashioned, been grown forever...I'm kinda a dull gal :) Thanks, Enoch, for your video tho, as I was curious about the purple tomato on the Baker Creek catalog cover. I do think the purple tomato is pretty, but I really don't want to grow it. I'll watch you grow it instead :) And I will keep growing Cherokee Purple :) :) :)

I totally understand, but not ALL GMO's have to be bad, as in unhealthy for us as this new variety is a cross between two edible plants. I have always thought there could be some interesting crosses between different species of edible plants that would be the best use of the GE technology. However, I completely agree as I stated in the discussion that GE plants designed for more nefarious reasons should be highly regulated. I am more interested in the legalities of growing and crossing this new tomato could be, that is where my questions are at right now, what lies in the future for those growing and selling them as folks are agreeing to terms of use for them.

I’m not saying right or wrong f GMO corn products increases yields compared to Heirloom seeds to feed more people or produce more ethanol.

There are a lot of sides to GE's and a lot of grey area that we need to become more familiar with and understand how these GE's are affecting our live both good and bad, as they are not going away and are only going to become more prevalent.
