I'm sorry for asking, this may be a dumb question, but can you explain the effect of the lower/higher hold up time to everyday person (who might not really knowledgeable with PSU) in like a simple terms? Does like a lower hold up time makes your PSU easily turns off during instability or what? That said I think even just by the numbers, the cut for the hold up time itself seems a very significant reduction. Thanks in advance 🙏
@HardwareBusters
@HardwareBusters 6 ай бұрын
No worries, hold-up time gives more room to a PSU to hold in ultra-short power cuts. Think it as a big battery, the bulk cap. It is mainly for protection to users having UPS connected to their PSUS, for extra safety.

its too bad they dont have any 750-850 compacter Prime models with 3.0 yet. personally, i dont need a 1000+ PSU's. I dont want my GPU or CPU to be able to use that much. 400watt total system power is more than enough for me personally i tweak my system to be closer to 250-300 watt max with a high power profile that can go beyond when needed.

@@Nelthalin It's not that you need to use 1000 watts to be able to justify a 1000+ watt PSU. It's about the efficiency at higher wattages as well as the lower noise levels at moderate wattage. I currently only use up to 300-350 watts or so with a Ryzen 7 7700X and RX 6700XT and I was able to use my 550 watt Seasonic GX from my first build. My next upgrade may use 450-500 watts maxed out and while technically that could work it would be terribly inefficient and well beyond the ~55% load which tends to be where efficiency starts to drop below the rating of the PSU (gold, bronze, platinum ect.). Look at Cybenetics efficiency and noise graphs to see what I mean. The Seasonic GX-1000 is quieter at 250 watt load than the GX-850 is.

I reaally appreciate this video. I'm still questioning if I really need an ATX v3.0 power supply. If I have a solid power supply already, an Asus ROG Thor 1200w Platinum II, why cant I just get an adapter cable and be done with it? I'm currently running a RX 7900 XT and a R7 7700X, so I don't have a need for the ATX v3.0 spec right now, but the display on the PSU rarely goes over 500w and my average draw is under 200w (I have a power monitoring plug between my UPS and power cord for my PC). I get that each generation typically draws more power, but I already have over 600w to play with.

Maybe this will help kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpDapaJ5d8abnq8 People tend to recommend 1000W PSU for a 4090 on reddit but also tend to say its overpowered and 850W is enough, for my 14700K+4090 build I've gone for a Vertex PX-1200 because it was ATX 3.0, and because PSU arent very pricey compared to the rest of the build, for my 12600K+4070 build I've got a Focus PX-850 and I think its a bit overkill but again the price wasnt really a big difference and lower than 850 there wasnt a lot of choice either

I'm confused. In another video you said that ATX 3.1 PSU is able to cut power / go into 0W mode if the sense pins on the 12V-2x6 connector (GPU end) aren't fully inserted, whereas ATX 3.0 PSU is not able to go into 0W state. Or did I misunderstand it?
@HardwareBusters
@HardwareBusters 2 ай бұрын
When the GPU doesn't see any sense pins, then it doesn't draw any power from the PSU, because both power sense pins are seen as open.

My PX-1200 Vertex seems to hold up my 4090 quite well for now, hope nothing goes wrong in the future, and as Gamer Nexus already mentionned, dont unplug your GPU every weeks to see if its burning or not, you dont want foreign object to go inside, 12vhpwr are quite weak to that since it deliver a lot of power while having very thin ping Even if it work Nvidia should double think about their power delivery method for their GPU, I would have even preferred four 8 pins connector rather than that, maybe a double 12vhpwr ? Well I'm not competent enough on this subject, but maybe there is a problem when people start complaining since before it wasnt a problem
