PHD in India is hard, it will take 5 years, Most of the students are not prepared PhD from technical and mental point of view, that's why it takes long. But I agree with you sir, if one put good effort PhD from IIT will be rewarding. Regarding future after phd, after postdoctoral from foreign universities, one will get teaching position in IIT's easily, especially newer IIT's.

Why they will not take you? For Phd after B.Tech you should have a good gate score & good knowledge about your B.Tech project. For phd afer M.Tech you should have a good cgpa & your final year project work should be good. If you have done your M.Tech seriously from a reputated institution surely you will get phd in IIT

PhD is not all about getting that 30 thousands stipent ! PhD is a commitment for atleast 6-7 years. Rarely it gets completed in 5 yrs ! Moreover after 5 years stipent is also stopped and you will be self financed for remaning years ! I personally recomment dont even think of phD if you are attracted to the stipent and not having a passion for discovering something, You will end up with dropping phd in between and left with a bachnors degree ! There is lot to tell but cant say it in this small comment box .

The sad reality is that the students who dont know anything about research neither they are that much dedicated towards research are joining phd for getting stipent ! Even after mtech some dont find good jobs and end up joining phd hoping that atleast they will get 30 k per month. That attitude is vary bad and i think such people are degrading the quality of research outputs in india.

Sir, You are talking about a very much ideal scenario. But it's not the case every time, sometimes students are exploited by the guide if a student is too much sincere for research, coming from the needy background and don't have any backup plan. Therefore choosing a guide in IIT is very much important and the professor should enough educated to assess one's research and intelligence. Because some students have the willingness to spend a greater purpose of the motivation of their entire youth (24-30 yrs) and energy into study and research but gradually deteriorated by the system.

I am person with stammering and thus not getting job in corporate as communication is key skill but my speech disorder restricts me. So I always think about R&D job where less communication and more knowledge is required. So GATE is only option for me to get in R&D either by MTech or PhD... Hey jitendra. I too have the same problem of stammering and i also feel low at times.But believe me,if you appear for interviews of MS or Ph.D at any IITs,the professors will only judge your knowledge and not your communication skill.And if you have exceptionally good research publications,your stammering wont matter much at all.I can say this from my experience of clearing MS and Ph.D interviews of 7 IITs.I know how much pain it is to talk fluently,but not everyone can be perfect in everything sir.all the best!!
