Fun fact : Isan is the most populated part of Thailand and has many historic sites of ancient city dated back to prehistoric age located on top of Korat plateau which is one of the most secure land on earth from natural disasters without the risk of volcanic or earthquake or the sea level raising and no direct hit from typhoon or tornado the only risk is flooding

Basically Isan used to be Laos. They moved a large population of people from Laos over to the Isan region after a war they fought. The king wanted to keep a closer eye on the Laotians because they were fighting non stop with the Thais for awhile.

When you speak Thai you sound more gentle than when you speak english or chinese. I wonder if that reflects on the Thai culture, or just a vocal thing? Also I could be wrong.

A more challenging area in Thailand for foreigners is further south beyond Krabi, this is where is will mostly be i am surprised at how much more affordable Trang, Songkhla and Hat Yia is compared to the rest of Thailand.

I had lived in a rural part of Thailand for close to 1 year during my military service. My experience was very challenging 😥 for first 3 months cos of the locals’ languages, nearby river water 💦 causing my stomach upset, no laundry service, mosquitoes 🦟, snakes, crocodiles 🐊, feeling sick half of the time cos of the heat during the day, homesick 😢 cos very far from Bangkok and nearest town about 2 hours away. 😮
I live in Buriram...we have city water, electricity, weekly garbage collection, AC and clear skies. oops forgot...CHANG ARENA!!

Rural Thailand or the provinces are more for old male farangs to live out their retirement with a Thai wife and such. Young farangs like Joyce would certainly enjoy Bangkok and everything that it offers way way more. As soon as you mentioned it reminds you of your hometown I could tell you were not enjoying it. I have been a Bangkokian all my life and I must say I feel completely out of place when I have to go to the provinces. So just to let you know many of us understand you completely on this. It's actually cute to see your honest response lol

You forget something UAN TAO, that people are different. 😉 There are plenty of young people in rural Thailand, and many hip places and cities around, most of them just an hour away from Bangkok with an airplane. We do not have to pay shitloads of money to live in a tiny shoe box in Bangkok, we have houses and huge gardens to grow our own clean food and organic rice. Most people own their own land. We can wake up in the morning to the birds singing, not car noises and honking horns, and we do not suffocate to death, because we have fresh air to breathe. If you feel "out of place" going to the provinces, it is probably you, not the provinces. Just saying lol 😂

You should move to other cities than bkk, Thailand is humongous and there’s different sub cultures all over. Travel north south east west of bkk and live in each area for a while. Saves on rent and expenses too.
