I know the Lord doesn't need my money, yet I acknowledge him as a source of all my income. He gave me physical body and ability to go to work. I gladly pay my tithing and feel it is a privilege, not a burden. Whatever the church decides to do with that money, it's up to them. As far as I am concerned, I pay my tithing to God. In the Bible God says "Prove me now if I will not open the windows of heaven". Many years ago I decided to test him and today my tithing equals my entire income just 10 years ago. So yes, I pay tithing, and will do it because the Lord is great

God provided for you, not because you "tithe", but because God loves you, sees your heart, and takes care of His children. The Biblical "Tithe" has nothing to do with the new testament church bride of Christ. You must "give", being led by the Holy Spirit, not by a "tithe" mandate made by some man, or a building, or group of people, that was strictly for the Levitical priesthood and had nothing to do with "money", but agricultural products; in other words, Food, that people ate together. Listen to the Holy Spirit instead of a man and see the True blessings of God!

I tithe based upon Malachi 3. I know there are abuses but I also know that God is able to supply all of my needs according to His riches and glory. Tithing, for me, is not obligation but a joyful decision. If you ever feel manipulated to tithe, don't do it. Let God speak to you about it because He loves a cheerful giver.

Well...Malachi 3 is talking to the priesthood which none of us are. Priests were literally stealing the meat and reselling it. Without learning the old testament we lose a lot of info. See 1 Samuel 2:12-17 Pastors use this to make people feel guilty. Believe it or not many seminaries teach pastors how to get people to "tithe" money. They also teach them that old testament law has passed but they hold on to tithing. Strangely enough money was never meant for a tithe. Remember when Jesus said render to ceasar want is cesars and render to God what is God's? On top of that if you did exhange money for a tithe you were penalized for it. I've had this discussion before and below is part of the convo. There is more than one tithe Types of Tithes 1. The Levitical Tithe Numbers 18:21-24New International Version (NIV) 21 “I give to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting. 22 From now on the Israelites must not go near the tent of meeting, or they will bear the consequences of their sin and will die. 23 It is the Levites who are to do the work at the tent of meeting and bear the responsibility for any offenses they commit against it. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. They will receive no inheritance among the Israelites. 24 Instead, I give to the Levites as their inheritance the tithes that the Israelites present as an offering to the Lord. That is why I said concerning them: ‘They will have no inheritance among the Israelites.’” This was a tithe given to the Levites for their work. The Levites are the descendents of Levi, one of the twelve sons of Jacob (also known as Israel) which then became the twelve tribes of Israel. In the time of Moses, the entire tribe of Levi were designated as Priests, with Aaron as their High Priest. There duties were to take care of the upkeep and transportation of the Tabernacle (the physical representation of God's dwelling place) and to offer sacrifices on behalf of the people. (Who, in Old Testament times, were unable to access God by themselves.) The Levites still live to this day, as far as I know, but their office has become obsolete since the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who now holds the office of Prophet, Priest and King for all people. In sense the Levitical Tithe is obsolete. 2. The Festival Tithe - Deuteronomy 14:22-27New International Version (NIV) 22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. 23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice. 27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own. - Deuteronomy 16:16-17New International Version (NIV) 16 Three times a year all your men must appear before the Lord your God at the place he will choose: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles. No one should appear before the Lord empty-handed: 17 Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you. This tithe was set aside for the festivals listed in the verse above. In sense the Festival Tithe is obsolete. However; should it be? Why is it that we don't keep to the festivals but we do celebrate Easter and Christmas which are not even mentioned in the bible and were never celebrated by anyone until the Romans adopted it from Pagan practices? Even still it wasn't until around 1860 that it became something big here in the US. That is a bit of another topic but I'd like to talk about that one too! 3. The Poor Tithe -Deuteronomy 14:28-29 28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. -Deuteronomy 26:12 12 When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, you shall give it to the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied. This tithe was for the poor and needy. It seems that the government has somewhat taken this one which isn't their responsibility. That's another topic too but not more political and I don't really talk politics. You mentioned it today and I was glad to hear it when you said that if someone doesn't feel comfortable giving to the church then give somewhere else where it is needed. I think a lot of people give in guilt thinking that they can't go to heaven or be accepted by God if they don't which to me is untrue. In turn some even give to the church and might want to be able to help someone in need and not be able to cause they gave their extra to the church or even say they can't cause they have to pay their tithe. That's where Matthew 23:23-25 kinda touches on. Helping others in need comes before the tithe. We shouldn't get so caught up in following the law and cause us to miss out on helping others in need. I know it is speaking on more than just that too. I just can't see Jesus saying to someone, "You gave that person all your money instead of to the church? Shame on you!" This tithe is still possible as I see it. I also understand that the church distributes this type of tithe to the poor and needy. As you stated today though, we can distribute it ourselves when we see fit.

4. The Priest Tithe This was the tithe for the Levites to give to the priests. - Numbers 18:25-32New International Version (NIV) 25 The Lord said to Moses, 26 “Speak to the Levites and say to them: ‘When you receive from the Israelites the tithe I give you as your inheritance, you must present a tenth of that tithe as the Lord’s offering. 27 Your offering will be reckoned to you as grain from the threshing floor or juice from the winepress. 28 In this way you also will present an offering to the Lord from all the tithes you receive from the Israelites. From these tithes you must give the Lord’s portion to Aaron the priest. 29 You must present as the Lord’s portion the best and holiest part of everything given to you.’30 “Say to the Levites: ‘When you present the best part, it will be reckoned to you as the product of the threshing floor or the winepress. 31 You and your households may eat the rest of it anywhere, for it is your wages for your work at the tent of meeting. 32 By presenting the best part of it you will not be guilty in this matter; then you will not defile the holy offerings of the Israelites, and you will not die.’” -Deuteronomy 18:1-2New International Version (NIV) 18 The Levitical priests-indeed, the whole tribe of Levi-are to have no allotment or inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the food offerings presented to the Lord, for that is their inheritance. 2 They shall have no inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the Lord is their inheritance, as he promised them. Leviticus 27:30-34New International Version (NIV) 30 “‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord. 31 Whoever would redeem any of their tithe must add a fifth of the value to it. 32 Every tithe of the herd and flock-every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod-will be holy to the Lord. 33 No one may pick out the good from the bad or make any substitution. If anyone does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute become holy and cannot be redeemed.’”34 These are the commands the Lord gave Moses at Mount Sinai for the Israelites. If you redeem your land or food tithe you must add 1/5 to it. 1/5 of 100% is 20%. 20%=10%=30%. OR add 1/5 of the value of the tithe. 1/5 of 10% is 2%=12%. Technically we don't give food/grain tithes so shouldn't we either pay a 30% tithe or depending on the interpretation of the scripture 12% tithe to be biblically correct? The descendants of Aaron were priests: Exodus 28:41-42 NIV 41 After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests. 42 “Make linen undergarments as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh. 43 Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die. “This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants. Technically only Aaron, his sons and descendants could be priests correct? Not even Jesus could be a priest: -Hebrews 8:4-5 4 If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. 5 They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” This tithe was for the priests. If no one but Aaron and his descendants could be priests then technically there are no more priests correct? There is no longer a temple. Biblically speaking can we even tithe the way it was commanded here? Having said all this I'm not saying we shouldn't give. I think it is important and God will bless us for doing so. He has me. I just found it interesting. I know we are instructed to give and God loves a cheerful giver.

We cannot misguide anyone. You should always give a 1/10th of your income even if you don’t have much or are in a bind. God comes in front of the debt you have been given or the debt you have caused. Giving before you pay off your debt is an act of faith. A way to say: God I may be in a financial bind, but you are more important. I trust you with my money. In fact, if I had no money and all was taken from me, I’d still have everything I need in you. The very reason why you might be in a financial bind could be that God wants to move inside you. He wants you to trust Him even when things are chaotic and unknown. To the people compromising and saying, “Just give your time, or just give this instead.” Stop. Faith doesn’t compromise. God has the power to get you out of that financial bind and you are going to keep your 10% in a lack of faith that He can’t save your situation? Tithing is giving to God in praise and worship. It is a recognition that God is greater than any material item in this world. Give to Him first and He will help your situation. Trust Him in everything and with everything. Trust Him with your kids. Trust Him with your spouse. Trust Him with your money. Trust Him. Faith is as simple as that. And guess what? WHEN trials come, you will have built the faith to remain in Him fully, with your undivided love and trust.

Dave keeps saying it's indisputable that Christians need to tithe...the only issuance of it as a command is in the Old Testament, and the New Testament teaching in the covenant brought in by Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection teaches in 2 Cor. 9:7 that "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." This is wholly different from a tithe since "as he has decided in his heart" is not a set percentage. We need to stop saying tithes are for New Testament Christians. There is no ceiling or floor for it. Just be generous with what you can give.

yes, he fulfilled the law, so we wouldn't be under its bondage. My thing is why do so many extract tithing from the law, change it from meat to money, even though money was very relevant, and apply it to Christians. Yet many do not practice all other things under the ceremonial law, in which tithing was categorized under? If we follow one part of the law, we must follow it all, or we're guilty of it all. A monetary tithe as a Commandment is found nowhere in scripture. If a person gives 10% let it be by choice. If a person can only give below that, or even above, let it be done according to their heart. God bless and Merry Christmas...

There was more than one tithe, all *only* for the Jews that made their living off the land. It never applied to Christians. It was always food. Listen to George W. Greene's videos. The tithe was only for the Jews. There is not a single instruction for Christians to tithe in the NT. It's for the Jewish people's religious system - when they had the temple. Even Jews don't tithe since it was destroyed. There is no storehouse. There are no priests.

Make sure you research the church and learn how the administration of it operates. Too many people give just for giving sake. Also is the church involved in its members lives when problems arise? Or you have to make appointments with pastoral staff only? Social Justice issues? Community causes? It makes a difference. I'm not giving for a jet, when Jon and Sarah cant make rent.

These aren't children or people flirting with art, these are serious students with discipline who are focused on bringing beauty into other people's lives. I remember one 7- or 8- year-old who was positively grilling me on my technique and finally whipped out a pad and started taking notes - if that doesn't humble you I don't know what will! Dave has always said that if you can’t make it on 90% then you can’t make it on 100%. He’s always acknowledged that there is likely much more you can cut from your budget and tighten the belt down a notch to still give your tithe freely and still work the baby’s steps. He also tells you that the tithe is not a spiritual disqualifer, and Dave doesn’t dive into the debate of 10% gross or net pay, God wants us to give and give freely. So no the tithe is not at odds with the baby steps, if you’ve read his books, followed his teachings closely and listened intentionally you would see this quite clearly, to say otherwise would be calling his integrity into question, which I and many others find is above reproach

jacob Earnhart well someone who is doing the baby steps can't make it at all that's the whole point. Someone who is in debt is basically paying interest to tithe. He gave the spoils of the war not his properties. If you ever win a war give the spoils of the war. (2)...The Pharisees tithed mint, dill and cumin (3)...The Priests (Levites) did not have inheritance. They did not own the land. The other 11 tribes of Israel were to give them tithe. Pick one and do it rightly. Remember if you pick # 3 you have to obey the other 613 laws.

The Bible doesn't tell Christians to tithe. It was for the Jews and their religious system. There were 3, perhaps 4 tithes, and they were always food and only those that made their living off the land tithed and the tithe was only on the increase. If someone had 10 cows and only one gave birth, they didn't owe anything. Listen to George W. Greene's videos. Read your Bible. The tithe is not for Christians. I tried tithing before I found out it doesn't apply to us. You cannot give your way out of debt. Jesus and his family did not tithe. I am so tired of Christians being taught the tithe lie.

Tithing is not negotiable. Give the tithes, you'll ask yourself how your debt got paid so fast. I paid my bills first two months in a row and I didn't cut back on my usual expenses. It's like making money became near impossible and I kept adding another bill to my budget. Finally, I paid it and after that, making money became very easy. It was notable and hard to miss. Not tithing is a great way to mess up your finances. If you think it's okay not to bless the Lord with your increase, why do you think the Lord is obligated to protect your income? It's as if you walk past everyone when you have money, don't give anyone a dime or piece of bread to get by, but when you're broke, you want those same people to come and help you. It's not going to happen. I don't understand why daily starbucks drinkers question whether they should tithe or not.

Jesus condemned the Jewish religious leaders doing that - Mark 7:9-13 "And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[a] your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[b] and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)- then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. I became a Christian 5 years ago after growing up Jehovah’s Witness (where they don’t tithe). I started at 5% because I was kind of scared of tithing but felt lead to do that. After just a couple weeks I felt very comfortable giving 10%. This was all my decisions and never felt pressured from anyone else or less loved by God if I didn’t. Now our family tithes 10% of everything we make and we have a giving fund on top of that. I feel that’s what makes us happiest because we are connected to our church and see that they’re using the money for good. So I guess all of that to say that it’s really all up to the individual and what they feel led to do.

My issue with tithing is that churches have now made this practice feel more like a Christian subscription fee, rather than a demonstration of faith in God. Also, it’s become less attractive to me to give to a church that has the appearance of being already wealthy. I personally would rather give to the needy directly than tithe to a “business”, because ultimately, that seems to be what modern churches evolved into.

So how about trimming back that budget a little more? Surely they could give $1000/month (if they wanted) and still come up with $2000 or MORE to put towards debt. Do they really need $8000 a month for expenses?

@@ErrorPagenotFound-ig1cy I did the math. Dave states in the beginning They are putting $2000 a month towards debt. If they tithe, it cuts that amount down by half. (so they are tithing $1,000/month, which is half of $2,000/month). A tithe is 10% of your income - so $1,000 is 10% of their pay. Therefore their pay is 1,000 x 10 = 10,000 dollars a month. Now some people do 10% of their take home pay, some do 10% of their gross income before taxes. But they are making somewhere in the ballpark of 10K a month. Unless they are giving a HUGE "tithe" which is much more than 10%.

Giving is an act of worship between you and God. And it can be in many forms - giving of your time, your talent, your treasure (money). And this can be to the church you call home, to your community, to orphans, to widows, to the poor - the options are nearly limitless there. “I give my tithe” sounds so much like an obligation, Jesus wants to us to give joyfully from our hearts whatever the percentage.

Tent making" Acts 18:1-3 -This is the only place in the Scriptures that mentions Paul working on tents. From this passage is built the doctrine that Paul’s full time occupation was tent making. It says that he was of that craft, which probably refers to the craft he had learned as a youth. Peter, for example, grew up in the fishing trade; and while one cannot say that Peter never caught another fish from the beginning of Acts to the day of his death, yet certainly it was not his full time occupation. Note that Paul was in Corinth when it mentions him working on tents with Aquila and Priscilla. We know that Paul was not supported solely by this, however, because of what he wrote later to the brothers in Corinth: II Cor. 11:9- The Macedonian brothers, who were in “deep poverty” (II Cor. 8:1,2) supplied Paul with his needs while he preached at Corinth. Thus whatever work of the hands Paul was doing, he wasn’t making enough to get by in Corinth, because other brothers were supplying his needs while he was there. We also have sent supplies to brethren in other places (in Mexico, for example.) Brothers and sisters have gotten together food, clothing, shoes, bicycles, and other needs and have carried it down to the souls there. But we have not needed to “labour for the meat which perisheth” (John 6:27) to be able to do this. The five above passages (Acts 18:13, Acts 20:34-35, 1 Cor. 4:12, Eph. 4:28, 1 Thes. 4:11-12) constitute an exhaustive list of all New Testament verses that specifically speak of Christians working with their hands (in contrast to the over 140 verses that speak of the spiritual labors we are supposed to do.) Note that none of them exhorts us to work for money, nor does any of them say anything about having a steady job. 2 Thes. 3:7-12 - Some use this passage to say the Paul was supporting himself with tent making while he was at Thessalonika as well. However, it is recorded that it was the Philippian brothers who supplied Paul’s necessities while he was at Thessalonika. Phil. 4:15, 16 - Paul wasn’t making enough to get by in Thessalonika, either. Thus there is no passsage to support the notion that Paul had a full time tent making career. His full time work was preaching. He spent two years in Ephesus, for example, daily teaching the Word (Acts 19:9,10). This is not to say that he never made a tent - we make our own tents, too - but more so we wish to point out that this cannot be used to support the idea that we’re supposed to get a steady job and labor for the meat which perishes. 2Thes. 3:7-12 Verse 8 cannot be speaking of only physical work. Can we believe all Paul did day and night was labour for the meat that perishes? Is that how to be a good example? Did he never witness, or pray, or search the Scriptures, or serve the saints? (All of these things are, according to the Scriptures, work.) However, because of verse9 we see it cannot be speaking only of spiritual work, either, since he says, “Not because we have not power....” (Paul refers in 1 Cor. 9:6-14 to the power he had as an apostle to not be involved with the physical labors.) So the work being spoken of here to the Thessalonians must be referring to both physical and spiritual: Paul and those with him preached, and went over the Scriptures with souls, and did as well whatever physical service was necessary to help the church continue. It helps to bear in mind that true Christian life was (and still is) communal. It was never meant to be this form we see today of people who see each other a few times a week or so (or less) then go and do their own thing the rest of the time. The body of Mashiyach in the N.T. was together - they lived together, worked together, etc. (Acts 2:44 and Acts4:32) All have to pitch in for this kind of situation to function. Luke 10:2,7 -Here is a labor that, if we do as good disciples, we’re worthy of our food and drink (related to the previous passage that says, “If any would not work, neither should he eat.” Consider in that light 1 Timothy 5:17,18 as well. 1Cor. 9:13, 14 - The priests under the law of Moses that offered sacrifice received a portion of the things they offered up (see, for example, Lev. 7:7-10, 31-34.) In the same way, in the New Testament, according to what Paul writes, those who preach the Gospel are sustained through that work - they are worthy of their hire. This is not to say that he never made a tent - we make our own tents, too - but more so we wish to point out that this cannot be used to support the idea that we’re supposed to get a steady job and labor for the meat which perishes.

I love Dave and the many good things he and his organization do for others. I just happen to disagree with his assessment of tithing for the following reasons (and several others). 1. There's no such thing as a biblical monetary tithe. Abrahams "tithe" was a one-time event, off spoils of war, involved an exchange (he received wine and food) and involved none of his personal wealth. Tithing under Mosaic law was strictly limited to items of the land - produce and livestock. Again, no money. 2. The indictments in Malachi were directed at the Levitical Priesthood, not all of Israel and have no bearing on us today, and none of it had to do with money. 3. There is nothing in the bible that promises a blessing for giving money to a church (or otherwise) or a curse for not doing so. Giving is a different matter but tithing can't be considered an act of faith or giving as it was a compulsory ordinance under Mosaic law and likely a pagan custom in the case of Abraham. I do agree with Dave that we should improve our personal balance sheets to the point where we can make a meaningful difference through giving according to our convictions. Fulfillment is what happens when good goes through you and usually happiness is thrown in with the deal.

"Money/ Tithing and Mammon" Often when we confront people with the fact that they are serving mammon, they reply, “We have to pay the bills.” That’s when we see what it means not to take thought, or ask, “What shall we eat?” If working a job to pay the bills is living by faith, then all the world is living by faith - that’s exactly how the“nations of the world” (Luke 12:29-31) get their needs met. They serve mammon. They work their jobs, get their pay, and buy their needs “For after all these things do the Gentiles seek.” (Matt. 6:31-32). If an unbeliever works for a bank, isn’t he serving mammon? If he isn’t, then what does the phrase “serving Mammon” mean? And if he is serving mammon, then isn’t his co-worker who professes to be a Christian serving mammon as well? Another statement that is often made concerns passages in the New Testament that refer to believing masters and servants (e.g., Eph. 6:5-9.) Some say that this applies to an employer-employee relationship. Upon reading it, however, we find it is speaking about masters and servants, not business associates. We know the will of Elohiym was that the servants should be made free, for Paul himself wrote that if a servant was able to obtain freedom, then he should do so (1Cor. 7:21.) Indeed, he emphasized this point by saying, “Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.” (1 Cor. 7:23) Evidently at that time some circumstances were such that it was not always possible for a servant to be made free; but such is of course not the case now. Obtaining freedom from an employer is accomplished simply by quitting. In fact, some take the liberty to do this as soon as they find a higher paying job. Matt. 11:28-30 - There is a rest available for those who are weary of laboring for the meat that perishes. Let us get away from being yoked together with unbelievers (2 Cor. 6:14-18), and take His yoke upon us - do His work. Very few who profess to know Yeshua are willing to take His yoke upon them. They have no interest in submitting to Adonai, nor to those who have the rule over us (“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.” Heb. 13:17) They do, however, obey diligently the voice of their employers; and this is neither out of love nor respect for them, but to receive the paycheck (money). “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Tim. 6:10) Multitudes every day are submitting themselves, compromising their convictions and bowing down (in a sense) to cater to the whims of their bosses and patrons. By obeying Yeshua’s Word and taking His yoke upon us, we receive a blessed rest for our souls. Working for this anti-Christ society is not a blessing; it’s actually a judgment: Habakkuk 2:13- Note this is “of Yahveh”; it’s a judgment sent from Him. What could be more vain than laboring for the meat which perishes to keep living in order to continue laboring for the meat which perishes? So many people are spending their lives in an effort to keep their lives going. But the promise to those who seek first His kingdom and righteousness is that what they need will be added unto them - not lots of riches, but enough food and raiment to get by so we can keep on seeking Him first. Ecclesiastes 2:26 - Elohiym gives this judgment to sinners. If they reject His yoke, they get this one: hard labor. A thirty year mortgage, for example is basically a sentence. Be it noted that in the days before the flood the world was making provisions for the flesh while Noah was preaching and working out his salvation. (2 Pet 2:5; see also Luke 17:26-29: “...they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded.”) Many do not choose to do Elohiym’s work because they are system-addicts. The system is their god, and thus it would be unthinkable for them to look to anyone but the system for their needs. Man cannot always help us, however. Consider all the money that has been appropriated for AIDS: how many people do you know that have been healed by that means? Consider as well the flood of ‘93: all the Corps. Of engineers and money sent from Washington couldn’t stop it. This has long been a device of man: throw money at problems as a solution. The Scriptures make it known to us that conforming and being unwilling to stand out and stand up is a manifestation of not having the Spirit (see Acts 1:8). The exhortation to Christians is not to seek to be a friend of the world (James 4:4). Rather, the means by which we are able to be called Elohiym’s peculiar people is by obtaining the grace to be zealous of good works, unspotted by their ways (see Titus 2:11-14 and James 1:27). We can testify of the truth of His promises. We hold no jobs, own what we can carry, and make with our own hands what we need (or trade for it, or find it, etc.) We have no permanent address, solicit no funds, take zero government money, and have no one supporting us by working for the world. Yet we always have what we need; Elohiym provides for us in all sorts of ways plus heals all our sicknesses. Let us remember that the Scripture warns about serving the creature more than the Creator (Romans 1:25.) Many are worshiping the god of self, catering to the lusts of their flesh. Brother John wrote that we should keep ourselves from idols (1John 5:21.) Yeshua asked, “Lovest thou Me more than these?” (John 21:15) This is the key. A greater love for Adonai would surely help many to start to serve Him, rather than just honoring Him with their lips. There is need of the fire of the Holy Ghost in the lives of many, that they might be His witnesses (see Acts 1:8: “And ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me....”) Fire has a nature of releasing energy. Of course this energy from the Spirit is to be for His service, not for us to serve ourselves and prosper in our will. It is obvious that society, or the world as the Scriptures call it, is in a very horrible state. Some are aware of this, and yet are not willing to take a stand against it as Yeshua did and taught. They just float downstream compromising with the system in order to get by. The Scriptures call us out of all that, exhorting us to be separate from sin and have no part in it: “Come out of her, My people.” (Rev. 18:4) Those who are willing to go out of the camp, bearing His reproach (Heb. 13:13) will find that there’s really not much else worth doing besides His work. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall Make you free.” - John 8:32, Yeshua (Jesus)

Would that be base on one month earnings or bi weekly?

There's no such thing as a biblical tithe from earned wages. Neither God nor Jesus ever asked anyone for their money. We are free to give as we're able and lead.

Why does a church need an income from its parishoners? If God wants them to have money, He does not need the puny assistance of mere humans!

This has been a big topic of conversation in our home. We currently tithes 10% every month. We have 1 child and 1 on the way. We dont eat out or go on vacations. Our current child is in daycare that cost $800 a month. After expenses we have about $600 left at the end of the month. When our new child gets here we will have -$200 after daycare so it's like do we pull that money from tithe???

“Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Timothy 5:8. Take care of your family first. How can you take care of the family of God (the church) if you can’t even take care of your own family? Tithing 10% of gross income is never demanded in the Bible. Only land farmers owed such a tax. Everyone else paid less or nothing at all. Give what you can, but take care of your family first.

Anyone who doesn't provide for their relatives, especially their own family, has denied their faith and is worse than a non believer. ~1 Timothy 5:8 Under that premise, I'd see if there's some other area that you can cut out to balance the budget but if not, scripture clearly states to put your family first.

Yep. Your whole family should suffer so the church can get that extra $1000 a month. Or work some extra shifts so you can spend even less time with your family. Someone in the church needs a new Mercedes or something. Your TAX DOLLARS already provide homeless shelter services. Church is already tax exempt. But keep that money coming!

The word 'tithe' actually comes from Old English, not Hebrew. In Hebrew, it's מעשר (ma'asar).

When he said, "the word tithe in Hebrew," he was referring to the Hebrew word that translates as tithe. I hear speakers phrase it like that often.

Yeah got to make sure you pay off your megachurch's pastor newest luxury car, its utterly vital. How else will you put all the blame on god when things go wrong or thank him for everything when it happens. What do you mean this entire programme is about self-reliance

Love this from Dave! I think too, much of the Christian life is about faith and dependence on God. Tithing(even when we aren't at a good financial place) is a step of faith and trust in the Father, knowing that He promises to meet all of your needs. I could tell you countless stories in my own life where I gave even when I've been in bad financial situations, and the Father ALWAYS comes through!! Every time I've had a major need, somehow the Lord would provide for me. We can't out give Him! It's scary to tithe when we aren't at a good spot financially, but He will provide for you!! Some of the most intimate moments I've had with the Lord were times I've been in rough financial seasons, and chosen to give anyways, and Him somehow providing(Someone would feel led to give money to me, I would get a raise at work, etc.) He is such a good Father!!!!!
