Exactly. Without awd it'll be useless on the street under 70-80mph with is already illegal territory. My C8 Z06 doesn't get traction under 40mph on the street as it is. For potentially 100-150k more after dealer markups the ZR1 just isn't worth it except for bragging rights. The Awd ZORA will be the ultimate driving machine to get.

@@EddieX I drove my Z06 after the reveal and it wiped out any desire for the ZR1. I would love to have both, but I would not get rid of the Z06 to get ZR1. But maybe I am justifying it to myself because the ZR1 will not be affordable for me.... haha

So, I also never thought I was gonna be a Corvette owner. But then, I bought a 2019 manual transmission. ZR1. Now, in 2024 I bought a Z06 Z07 convertible. And I am very hopeful and prayerful that I’m gonna be able to buy a new ZR1. Actually, hopefully 2 of them. I just don’t think they gonna make cars like that for much longer. At least not at $300,000 price.

Another great video @eddie! When you and I were at Spring Mountain we were both so blown away with the Z06! Sure more power is interesting but as you highlighted in your video the cars look very similar. Unless you are tracking often, I just don't see the use for the ZR1 except for bragging King of the Hill rights! After living with a couple C8 Z06's for he last year and also owning a Ferrari 458, I must say there is something special about the NA flat plane crank experience. I added some bolt on mods on the Z06 (intake, exhaust, throttle bodies) and the sound is Ferrari-like intoxicating and I dont desire more power. So I am sticking with the Z06 and hope you will too!

To the degree that one values the high pitch sound at the top end the Z06 is more of an experience than the ZR1, as the latter is being muffled by the turbos. If the power is the draw, the ZR1 Zora will probably have another 300-400 hp or so, and 4WD so acceleration wise it'll be even more brutal than the ZR1.

Same problem - the C8 ZR1 announce was 5 days ago. I have a 2023 ZO6 with 4000 miles. I called my regular (30 years Corvette dealer) who sells lots of Corvettes (over 50 a year) and he said the C8 ZR1 will probably be "unobtainium" for anyone except super dealers. Let's see. I had a 1990 LT5 ZR-1 (later became a LPE C4 ZR-1), and ordered a 2019 C7 ZR1. I love my C8 ZO6 - but I have a deposit on the new ZR1. Will I take delivery? yes if my dealer can get one.

Except what would you do for cooling? Obviously the ZR1 has the twin turbo and factory warranty and is designed to handle the extra horsepower. You realize they dropped the max rpm, the compression ratio, boosted the dual clutch to handle the extra horsepower. You still want your blow up your Z06 by “adding” your own twin turbos?

People keep talking about his mistake like it’s a bad thing. The incident gave GM even more spotlights/attention on the ZR1. I remember that everybody went nuts and the search for ZR1 spiked up tremendously through out that day. Now, allocation for the ZR1, celebrities or not, regardless of your status, money is money, since it’s going to be much rarer than the Z06, expect to pay more than MSRP…

I think it depends on you intentions, but honestly, 1,064 horsepower sounds like a good idea for bragging rights, but if you’re driving on the street, that power and 800 Lb-ft of torque through two wheels is likely not very drivable. On a track and on prepped surfaces, I’m sure it’s great, but to me, the Z06 is enough and will be far easier to use on the street. But if you’re a very skilled driver, and can read what cars are doing well, go for it.

No way! That N/A power and sound is what you want, and it has the perfect amount of power without going ridiculous. Ringing out a 650hp car is way more fun that no being able to use 1000hp totally, like ringing out a 600cc bike is more fun than a 1000cc, cos you just can't use enough of it on the street. Just getting the ZR1 cos it has 1000+hp would be a mistake. It won't have the same soul as an N/A car, and I bet the N/A Z06 will become more collectable, cos everything else is going twin-turbo or supercharges. Don't do it, you will regret it. Plus the extra price makes it even less of a no brainer. Don't do that typical monkey brain thing of always thinking the grass is greener with the thing you don't have, over what you do have. More isn't always better man. If you are wise you will know this already. Life is about experiences and driving is about "smiles per miles", and nothing does that like a high revving naturally aspirated V8, especially with a flat plain crank. Also the ZR1 is heavy, with tons of coolant and double digit heat exchangers. So much more to go wrong and so much fluids. No turbo car will ever sound like an N/A car. Keep the Z06 man.
