Scott... I lived in Guatemala for close to 10 years. As soon as you start going down the plateau of Barberena- Cuilapa you feel the heat rushing at you... Everytime i slept on a bus it woke me up. When it's 86 degrees (normal) in Jutiapa it's usually 5-10 degrees colder in the capital! In Petén, that used to be a lung of the planet, they (me too) often experience over 93 degrees. In Suchitepequez, it also hovers around 90 degrees... Many cities in Retalhuleu hit over 90 degrees. I love that department with all it's palm trees. Zacapa, Jerez, Asunción Mita remind me of burning Chinandega. You might prefer Zacapa though...Some 110 kms on the East of Guatemala city. And not just for it's rhum... Temperatures hover around 86-90 degrees all year. Some precipitations. Nothing to do with Guatemala city where you better bring an umbrella plus a warmer coat during their long rainy season... Returning to Zacapa... Usually, during the 'Semana Santa (Holy Week) ' brace yourself for 110-113 degrees temperature (nice)... Guess where i'm going back to in four months... 😊😊😊😊

Guatemala is my goal for a second house and if I'm ever baller enough, a third in Italy. But Guate is where I want to be. Nicaragua lacks the big city. So a chance to hang in a major metro as a "vacation home" sounds perfect.

A rail system connecting all countries of the region would be nice but even the less complicated ferry between Costa Rica and El Salvador failed miserably
@ScottAlanMillerVlog2 ай бұрын
That might be "less complicated", but it's also "a bad idea." LOL. If you look at the geography, it's not a great place for a ferry, and bypassing Nicaragua makes little sense. Ferries are expensive to operate, dangerous, scary, make lots of people sick, slow, etc. I love them personally compared to many things (but less than trains), but my wife can't take them. That knocks this family of four travels out as potential passengers, plus we live in Nicaragua. Costa Ricans don't tend to be travelers (expats that go there aren't likely to travel more) and not nearly as likely to want to go to El Savaldor. The Nicaragua / El Salvador ferry is up and running. THe problem is that the ferry solved no real issues. A train, in theory, would solve many.

I might be wrong but I thought the Mayan land was made up Southeastern Mexico, all of Guatemala and Belice, western portions of Honduras and el Salvador??? Any geography buffs here?
@ScottAlanMillerVlog2 ай бұрын
That's correct. But Guatemala is the heartland. The Mayan culture started in Guatemala, the biggest settlement was always there, and Guate remains the symbolic "capital of the empire", which it even says when you enter the city.

If Guatemala Is so rich and cheap, then why it's poverty rate is twice's of Nicaragua
@setzutokugawa25882 ай бұрын
Exacto 👍
@Guillermo-ym5yn2 ай бұрын
Where did you get that?
@ScottAlanMillerVlog2 ай бұрын
Well, "richer" countries often have higher poverty rates. THis might sound crazy, but if your goal is to be rich "as a country" then you generally go for high income disparity. If you want your people to live well, you go for low income disparity. So places like Panama and the UK are "rich" but have major poverty problems. Nicaragua is "poor" but has a lot fewer poverty problems.
