Our family owns a beach front house, and we have 3 Canadian families living in the same area, they are very nice people and locals love them. Thank you for saying so many beautiful things about our country, we love people visiting us and families coming here and making our county theirs.

First time here. Came back from a 6 month's stay in Guatemala and Nicaragua. Will return to Nica at the beginning of December. Spent a whole evening and a whole night in Penoloya. Waiting for some falling stars.. Slept there...on banana leaves... No one bothered me. Try that in Guatemala: impossible....

They also have very good chocolate... But be wary... In many places now, including nice restaurants, they will give you a cup of whatever they make...and it's pure Hershey chocolate sauce... 😢. Stayed there for months... Same with the 'fresh' juices... Made from chemicals sold at El Palí. La Colonia and can't remember the name of the other outlet...

Chinandega... Really really hot. Lovely market in the evening on weekends... Anywhere... houses, business are open till 9-10 in the evening. No armed guards anywhere except el Palí (which belongs to Walmart). And banks... León... Getting nicer. White people buying and restoring the buildings. I wish they would stop putting metal sheets on the roofs instead of those red tiles. Very filthy place if you were born in Canada. Granada. The opposite. Especially in the center...You ask them about the garbage problem in León and they give you a look of digust... Good luck to you! I'll be returning to Ometepe at the beginning of December. If you wish to go through El Salvador, i have a friend who does the crossing to Nicaragua by boat in around 2 hours. Instead of 12-14 hours to go through Honduras... 50$ american dollars and his boat and he or his wife accompany you at the El Salvador border... Nicaragua ... Wow... Why did I stay in Guatemala for so long... :) Back to Ometepe in December... 2024

Recently researched Nicaragua..What would be the monthly cost of living be on average?. Just 2 of us.. Would like a small home with a pool in a more non populated area say within 20 minutes of a town for shopping? Any information would be greatly appreciated..Cheers!

The cost of living varies a lot in different areas. Scott Allan Miller can answer that question much better, check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4qUaoZ8iL6VbNU . We can answer about the cost of building in Leon.

@deanwoermke6590 4 ай бұрын
@playatesoro1249 well that would be some great information regarding building..We currently have a1000 square foot home and that's plenty for us.. A pool would be a must for sure. What would be a reasonable cost for that in a private area? Not into having visible neighbors.

With respect, even as Canada declines, note it is a Canadian salary that gets you a good life down there. Millions who make the money down there try to come up here. It's complicated, and many Canadians-- ones that can afford to travel-- have immense global privilege. Comparing Canada and Nicaragua without noting this is apples and oranges. Enjoy both places if you can....

How is the trash situation in Nicaragua in honestly?
@playatesoro1249
@playatesoro1249 2 ай бұрын
The government is doing an excellent job with Trash. The bottles and garbage gets washed down the rivers, and washes up on the beaches. Its not too bad, but the ocean has bottles floating around. I am trying to look into the recycling in nica, but really i dont know enough at this point.
@dkurtz1162
@dkurtz1162 Ай бұрын
The trash problem varies a lot by city it seems. Leon has a problem with it, but they've started a campaign to help instill more civic pride and clean it up, much like the US did in the 70's and 80's to address pollution. Nagarote on the other hand is immaculate and takes great pride in being the cleanest city in Nicaragua. There's so many parts of the basic infrastructure in the country that have had to be addressed over the last 30 years or so. Now that things like roads, electricity, Internet, and healthcare have been brought to the vast majority of the country, they can focus on expanding on those and working on more QoL issues like pollution. It's admirable what Nicaragua has achieved since the overthrow of Somoza. In the face of unrelenting opposition and interference from their large neighbor to the north, and with extremely limited resources, they've achieved so much.

Nicaragua is a wonderful country with fabulous residents. But that alone is not enough to make one want to move there. The problem is that the government of Nicaragua is a fascist dictatorship which has absolutely no respect for individual rights or property rights. Seizing property is commonplace and the government actually endorses its partisans seizing the property and other assets of anyone who speaks against it. If you move to Nicaragua, just assume that anything you take with you no longer belongs to you. Assume that you are giving it to Ortega and his stooges. Also, if you say the wrong thing, expect to end up in prison. Expect to be fleeced by the police, it's how they support themselves. If you love the rule of law, stay away from Nicaragua. It no longer exists there. And this is such a shame because the Nicaraguan people are lovely and deserve much better. But for now, Nicaragua exists for Ortega and his goons and everyone else is dispensible ... and their property is up for grabs. Go live in Nicaragua if you like adventure and if you have nothing to lose. Otherwise, stay clear.

That’s a fact.. the communists that overthrew the so called dictator in 79 as they used to call it, they are now the dictators. That poor country has not had a break and with so much potential, as much as I would love to invest.. can’t do it with Communists still there.

That rant seems like it's straight out of the propaganda arm of a hostile country that is mad that Nicaragua overthrew it's appointed dictator and has successfully defended itself against that hostile country's direct interference and opposition, sanctions and embargos and yet provides for it's people better than that hostile country does.

Not a rant .. do your research. The population makes ends meet bc of folks traveling and families of families that live overseas. It’s communism with a different facade.. good luck mate.
