Read my thoughts in the comments above against Witten as a HOF inductee as a Cowboys fan.
@nattydaddy78642 жыл бұрын
He played with a broken jaw, he played with a ruptured spleen, he played with great reception numbers and he was a great blocker. You can put him in on any down and he could block for you or catch anything you throw at him. So how you don’t put him in the Hall of Fame is beyond me.
@benworsham146611 ай бұрын
1. He didn’t sit with his teammates on flights, he flew first class with the Jones family. Is that a move of a team captain? 2. He didn’t change the game. He simply ran five to eight yard routes. 3. His teams failed in the postseason. Championship matter when talking HOF. 4. Do we remember Witten deciding to retire to join ESPN during the NFL draft? Classless move? 5. Do we not forget Witten was with Romo at Cabo during a postseason bye? That sticks on Romo, but Witten has been forgiven of that. 6. Witten was good, not great, his back half of his career his lack of any separation limited the Cowboys offense. I’m a Cowboys fan, yet my definition of a Hall of Fame Inductee is strict. If Witten had 40 more touchdowns and won a Championship on his resume, my thoughts would be different.
@davidroberts728210 ай бұрын
According to your logical standards, Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson shouldn't be in the HOF, either even though he retired with over 2,000 more receiving yards than Witten, only won 2-3 post-season games, played on less winning teams than Witten's Cowboys, never truly had a game-breaking long-term franchise Pro Bowl QB like a Romo or Dak Prescott ( best overall QB Andre Johnson played with was Matt Schaub, a former Falcons cast-off and Vick's backup who had some very good seasons from 2007-13, had a decent career, overall). Andre Johnson's situation reminds a lot of Steve Largent's dilemma with Seattle from 1976-89 in that he was a All-Pro, legendary WR who's best numbers came from Dave Krieg and he never had his "elite QB" like Rice did with Montana, and later Steve Young. We shouldn't hold Andre Johnson's lack of comparative team success or post-season success in same way HOF never held it against Largent, James Lofton, arguably Art Monk. How many HOF QB's did Cris Carter play with during his long and winding career with Eagles, Vikings, and Dolphins'. You shouldnt hold that rigid formula or perception against Jason Witten or Andre Johnson that their HOF chances should be affected by never winning a SB or scoring 100 TD's.

@bigred99915 жыл бұрын
@@GL-ys8je that's fine and dandy. A DT in a 3-4 is supposed to do just that eat as many blockers as possible so Uncle Ray Ray could fly to the ball carrier. You can't compare a TE to a defensive lineman. That's apples to oranges. Offensive players get graded out by stats. How many catches, yds, TD's etc. etc. After that it's the secondary stats that matter like blocking or drawing double teams so everyone else can be a threat. Jason Witten is the best complete TE the NFL has seen since day one. Only those that don't know football would even question his HOF status. Unfortunately, most people don't know football and think all the shiny toys are the best things. Let me ask a question. Which LT is better, the one that can pass block better than anyone but can't run block, or the guy that does both very well? Which RB is better, the one that runs great but can't catch or block, or the one that does it all well? Which WR is better, the one that catches everything but can't run routes, or the one that does both very well? Do you want the in box safety that tackles but can't cover, or the guy that does both very well? Do you want the DE that stops the run but can't get to the QB, or the guy that does it all well? Ok then.
