It does matter. Because, no one wants to recognize that comparing the two greatest players of their generation, Ronaldo and Messi, Ronaldo hands down is the more accomplished player. Goals, and hardware. Ignoring that Messi hasn’t accomplished anything on the international stage and saying he’s better than his current counterpart, is wrong. In truth, that is the only thing that can separate these two.

He may have more goals in total but the difference is minor even though he has played over 100 more games than messi. Messi’s Goal and Assist ratio is way better. Sure ik u guys like to compare him to Ronaldo but the difference is just too noticeable. Whether he wins it or not, in a vacuum, is not damning. The problem is Argentina have won 14 Copa Americas and 2 World Cups, none of those in the Messi era. The weight of the tradition of success in argentinian football is what allows his lack of international trophies to be held against him. If he played for Bolivia, nobody would care about his lack of international trophies. Playing for a powerhouse nation like Argentina means there are expectations to live up to and trophies are the only currency capable of fulfilling those.

The best player is an individual title. The best team is a collective title. This is not rocket science. There are many countries who will probably never win any major international titles, but that doesn't mean a player from that country, isn't capable of being the greatest of all time. greatest player dont choke but they persevere despite the shortcomings of the team..they run around and motivate their teammate to run and believe in themself.. messi may be the best technical player ever but there are other qualities that makes a player great like leadership and fearlessness.. there have been several instances when there has been void of this qualities.. i wont say that final against germany but all the important games after that where argentina and barcelona lost...like those multiple copa finals against roma against liverpool against bayen munich... the teams in which messi plays is positioned in such a way that they get the best out of him..now when coming up against tactically great side set there had been no plan B if he fails to deliver and he at those moment dont motivate and run around rather he starts to stroll and make his team mates be the scapegoat...this is the only time i have see him this motivated and be the kind of the leader we longed him to be.. i really hope he cud deliver this time at the biggest stage
