The funny thing is, these rules they keep introducing will not hurt us, they'll hurt those that wish to be like us, clubs like: Villa, Newcastle etc. They are too late in trying to stop us, we're already dining with Kings and Queens and there's nothing they can do about it.

@@Wickedpissah41 lol, came to a City Pod just to troll City? Its very common for clubs to sponsor themselves. Look at Reynolds at Wrexham. Its done up and down the leagues. Dont like self sponsors - make a rule Dont like multi club - make a rule Dont like the fair market accounting that was signed off on by reputable auditors who work throughout the league - make a rule. It doesnt matter - you’re stuck with Noisy Neighbors until the Premiere league / England force the owners to sell like Abramavich for hypocritical political reasons.

@@chriscooper4205 what laundering? They are state owned teams. Countries dont need to launder money. And even for circumventing sanctions, the league/UK just forces a sale or blocks fund transfers. Abramavich did it to protect himself and his money from Putin. Nation states generally do it for investment diversification. Debatable about image washing being something that matters to them or is just a byproduct of their other goals.
@GalayethZen
@GalayethZen 25 күн бұрын
@@chriscooper4205 idk the context of my other comments - i serious discuss things in some and troll back at trollers in others. For your thread here, i am truly interested in what laundering you are referring to or concerned by. This may have cone from my assumption that you meant an owner laundering their money with the club as a clean business. Which i am not aware of anyone being like that. The only thing i can think of is kind of the opposite. using the term laundering loosely in the sense of a club using the owners other business as the clean way to balance ffp. - i.e. city’s owner paying players and coaches for non-city related things back in their ruling country. Or the accusation of inflating purchases and sponsorships. Is that what you meant by laundering? I truely am asking and want to understand the context of the original comment.
@GalayethZen
@GalayethZen 25 күн бұрын
@@chriscooper4205 I have a slightly different perception of what happened. I believe that they didnt exaggerate revenue. They actually received it. The dispute seems to be more the sponsors paid more than what fair value was. And they did this because they were either owned by or governed by the city owners. When it comes to hiding expenses. Thats where it seems to come into the manager doing a coaching session for UAE national team or whatever and then being paid for it again, accused of above market value. When it comes to their hired external auditors, i was under the impression that it was a big name firm who audits several premier league clubs. This essentially gave credence to the idea that they were too reputable and divested from City to give a slanted review. Lest they lose other accounts because of those teams feeling slighted. Now certainly audit firms could be colluding with their clients and willing to help hide items. But it also can be just that certain areas are vague and / or subjective. So an example of that - maybe City finds a Sir Alex consulting contract that is around that price and say yep that makes sense. And the prem see a mourinho consultation and say well this is a better estimate. The number of infractions the 100+ that folks throw around. It is yes that number. But i believe its 10 violations repeated yearly for 10 years. But if you dont realize that its a violation or you disagree and are waiting on a ruling. Its understandable that you could do your normal business practices that you think are ok for 10 years. Then are told actually thats wrong or just have grown to a point where its no longer seen as a stretch. Kind of like take a pen from work 10 times in year one. Do it 9 more years 10 times each. Then in year 11 you get on your performance review - stole 100 pens over 10 years. United having less growth than City is because they were already a global brand. They already had superstars and trophies and were the jerseys available at heathrow airport. Regarding stalling. Any big company will use their legal team to fight every detail in a case, especially when the stakes for the business are so high. Its a different story when someone says you broke a rule pay 20m. City’s owner says do you want that in gold, oil futures or cash. But when you say we are going to invalidate your trophies, your brand, Pep will leave you, all your stars will leave, you’ll be kicked out of either the prem or all the way down to the national league. Thats when they say ok let me introduce you to my 100 lawyers who are going to appeal from the big stuff all the way down to the ink you used to write us. And we’re going to counter sue you for defamation since weve had to listen to all this will players and coaches who werent even here at that time lift the trophy annually. Anyway, good stuff bud. I’m curious how it all works out. Good chatting with you, great points. Happy to keep in touch or even do a cross town podcast about it.

The devil will be in the details. Is this a salary cap? A total club expenditure cap? Do transfer fees factor in? Also, this should be seen as a further attempt by the PL to demonstrate they can regulate themselves. They fear the impending Independent Regulator. That context is important. Also it seems weird to have two sets of factors on a spending cap. Why not one or the other? I guess they're attempting to introduce a way that the little clubs won't send themselves out of business and the big clubs have some sort of limit on spending

The Premier League needs to ask one question. What are we trying to achieve? The rules since loadsamoney came in have not added anything. The more things change the more they stay the same. Manchester Utd Arsenal and Liverpool ruled the roost and led the charge to stop Man City and before them Chelsea. So from a top three we have changed to a top three. Only the names have been changed, slightly. I feel sorry for super rich Newcastle who are not going forward much. Meanwhile Bury and Macc Town et Al are fucked, but who cares about the grass roots…….. not the PL that’s for sure.

As usual you make some great points Jonny 👍 But as you mention 'muddy waters', I feel suitably named to wade in with my 5 cents worth...🦆😂 . This is clearly yet another PL knee-jerk reaction to appease vested interests ('Red Cartel'). Which in its current proposed format appears to be very short-sighted and ill conceived. (sound familiar? 🤦🏻‍♀). Therefore in addition to your points, I would like to add the following: 1) The powers that be claimed that FFP / PSR rules were introduced to “improve the overall financial health of European club football”. 2) However the proposed new rules do NOTHING to improve on this. 3) Indeed it actually PUNISHES successful clubs like City that are the most financially healthy. 4) The arbitrary choice for a 'cap anchor' based on an apparent random multiple of the lowest PL TV revenue is TOTALLY NUTS ! 5) How can clubs build 5 or 10 year multi-billion pound business plans, including expensive infrastructure investment, based on what third party companies like Sky may (or may not) be able to afford downstream? Indeed companies that may be in financial difficulties themselves. 6) In the case of Sky, its parent organisation (Comcast) paid far too much for it. Now the US behemoth is weighed down by £74 billion of debt and has vast repayments to make, with Sky having become just an orphan in the rambling Comcast universe. So do we just hope that Sky survives? 7) By deliberately trying to cripple the more successful clubs, the PL opens itself up to legal challenge under the Restrictive Trade Practices Act 1976. 8) Indeed I can see some clubs including City ultimately taking class action against the PL, based on: a) **Compliance with Previous Rules**: Clubs might argue that implementing a new spending cap would disrupt their existing carefully laid-out financial strategies. b) **Investments Made in Good Faith**: The clubs could also argue that they have made long-term investments in players, infrastructure, and other areas in good faith, based on the rules and regulations in place at the time. Implementing a new spending cap could undermine the investments they've made and the stability of their financial planning. c) **Impacts Competitiveness**: Clubs like City can argue that the proposed spending cap unfairly restricts their ability to compete with other clubs in European football competitions (despite being fully compliant with current PSR rules). This will adversely impact their potential for earning significant revenue from European competitions. Will clubs even seek financial damages as a result of PL mismanagement ? d) **Legal Considerations**: Depending on the final terms (and formula) of the proposed spending cap, clubs could explore potential legal avenues to dispute its implementation. This might involve challenging the legality of the cap or arguing that it violates principles of fairness or competition law. [ Sorry - here endeth my rant... ]

Of course Man City people think the money side of the game is boring. Yeah, they are probably the best team in PL, but they are certainly the most BORING side. More passes go sideways and backwards, taking the fun out of the game.

man united and liverpool also arsenal fans arent that educated to learn this maths and understand it, they focus too much into the delusion of their club and jealousy on ours. its going to be fun when city signs 100 mill 2players in same window and we dont even need to spend anymore. Premier league are basically with so many loopholes and if we maintain our top club status, we will keep making 500-700 million every season. we need to spend at most 200 mill in summer windows anyway to stay where we are but villa newcastle tottenham cant spend more than 150-200 mill.

Premier league will capitulate on itself. It's all about control for the elite clubs. They don't want another Man City model knocking them off their perch. If they wanted a spending limit it should be fixed not percentages as percentages will never be fair for all. Let owners invest in clubs and cover any expenses that the club can't fund itself as they grow. Protects clubs from debt and allows for investment.

Premier League needs to be rethink and reshaped, it's an absolute JOKE these days with this stupidity. The clubs need to go to the English Tribunals (even if it goes to the supreme court) and try to revert this crap, don't accept this!

Of course Newcastle and City fans want unrestricted spending. You guys are owned by gulf states who enjoy the vanity projects of owning football teams. However you would become the very thing you claim to be against, that is the PL being a 'closed club', as City and Newcastle eventually turn the Premier League into a pissing contest between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. What's wrong with a more egalitarian approach that bridges the spending power in the league from the richest to the poorest? It would make the league more competitive for a start, which has always been the PL's biggest trait. Try and separate your self-interests as City fans and see it from a league perspective.
