Mr. Donalds attempts to get a proper discussion on why these "lessons" do not need to be pushed in a math class, is spot on. It's proper venue would be in a social studies curriculum, openly discussed with all views voiced and accepted, instead of trying to "impress" a one sided view by just dropping charts into a context that doesn't allow for proper discussion.

actually, vouchers are only a blessing for the few kids that get to use them to go to a charter school that doesn't suck. for the rest of the kids, its resources taken away from the public schools that they must attend. those funds should be used to make sure that every kid gets a chance at a decent education, not just a small minority. that means making sure that no child gets a politicized math book, or is fed creationism, or is forced to compete against other students with a clear biological advantage, or is harassed and bullied for any reason. this is more proof that our education system is broken, and it is a system that desperately needs fixing.

Guess what you have to compete against people with a clear biological advantage in the adult world too. Childhood is about learning how to be an adult. That won't happen if you make their environment sterile from any of the real challenges they will face as adults. They need smaller versions of the same types of problems.

These subjects intersect and have actual effects in our real lives. There’s a reason why America is falling behind rapidly in education for the world. It’s because our students aren’t taught how to apply these very subjects to real instances in the world. When you get into college or a career, a math problem isn’t going to talk about the number of apples on a tree. It’s going to talk about real world issues and race is one of them. That’s just a fact. When we understood and reinforced that knowledge into our studies, we either passed or failed by our own merits. Stuff like this in today's schools shows the teachers who would teach all this would already show that they are going to be biased towards a certain group of kids, and ostracize those that they think would become 'future racists'

As for doing away with "subjects," many educational researchers advocate this and many public schools have inplemented it. The Germans also had propaganda in their math text books in the thirties. There were questions like "If it costs 1300RM per year to care for a mentally handicapped person and there are 300'000 people in care, how many newlyweds could get a stimulus check of a 1000 RM every year?" It was wrong then, it is wrong now.

Rep. Byron Donalds has quickly become one of my favorite folks to listen to, watch and hear from. He strikes me not only as intelligent but thoughtful and reasonable. On this topic, he's correct, STEM education does not need the intrusion of social justice education. Moreover the idea of "implicit bias" is not something that is a hard science but rather an assumption made to justify ones own thoughts and feelings. Sad that we as a nation have declined this much.

The black gentleman just deflected from the actual question which was, should this be in a math text book? To say , "do we agree that racial prejudice exists?" is not the question. It does and won't be solved in a math text book. I would ask him, "Is learning about racial prejudice in a math class going to help children pass the math portion of an SAT?" This is for learning MATH. History need not be part of every class a student attends; it results in distraction and diluted learning.

anywhere they can distract a child from learning, especially a black child to get them thinking about racial divide. That is one thing I don't get, why in the black community especially is there so much focus on race. And the democrats want to put so much focus on it, there isn't much time for regular learning which is what will get them out of that narrative they created that is "systemic racism". The point is that the government is seeking to censor facts from a textbook. What other applications of math are Florida politicians interested in removing? Those having to do with fruit? How about with astronomy? The issue is that the government has picked out one specific example (racism, or in other contexts, sexual orientation) and has decided those facts are the facts that should be censored by Big Government. The rhetorical question--whether the items seeking to be censored represented accurate social science--is key here. If they do, and the government seeks to keep them out of textbooks, that is an extraordinary over-reach. And yes, of course learning how math is applied to social science is going to help pass the math section of the SAT. (Not that this is in any way a particularly important role for a mathematics class.)

The children with true American parents know that to be true as well. So him sitting there saying students know racial bias is real and it makes people uncomfortable is ridiculous. But the math book wanted the students to know there is racial bias and who harbors the most bias against others. Or in other words, who the bad people are. Even more interesting is the reference that this was the results of an online survey. It isn't even accurate. Many people, myself included, will put in all sorts of wild answers for something online just to see what the results say.

I love to see this and am happy this is brought to light. But did it change anything?

The answer to the question is no. This question has nothing to do with math and no need for it to be in a math textbook. It's just part of indoctrination system in our schools.

How does it indoctrinate
@eddie2432
@eddie2432 2 жыл бұрын
@@noneyabusiness7998 read the definition on the word indoctrinate. To teach a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically. They are brainwashing kids to think about something even though that subject they are talking about has nothing to do with the subject at hand. If you can't see how that is the epitome of indoctrination then it's probably because you are indoctrinated or one of the pushers of the narrative. It's like having a math question that pushes you to believe in God. It has nothing to do with math so why is it in there? To indoctrinate you without you even understanding.

@@eddie2432 then this isn't indoctrination if the book has a 100 pages then at least 50 of those pages must contain whatever ideal is being used for indoctrination

@@noneyabusiness7998 no not true at all. See if you are being indoctrinated all day every day buy the TV shows you watch, the music you listen to , the media, schools then put something like this in a math book or quiz is just a little reminder of your indoctrination. It's the same crap Russia does with its state run indoctrination. But let me guess you don't think the elite in America would stoop so low? But yet hundreds of country around the world do it and thousands of countries in history have done it. But the elite in America no way they would? I'm just saying you have to question things like this. Good luck to you.

fair question is raised here...equally fair is whether or not this should be barred from discussion in a social studies class

There's a time and a place to talk about each subject matter. A math class is not the place to discuss sociology, nor is a sociology the place to learn calculus. Propaganda has no limits. They want their bull$#!t agenda woven into every aspect of society no matter what.

Good for you Byron!! There are a handful of congressional reps that seem like they are worth their salt. Byron is one. Chip Roy, in Texas is another. We need to praise and support them.
