It's already starting to shift again to "Grapplers who can box". Belal, Islam, DDP, Topuria, Pantoja, Aspinall. Outside of Suga, the kickboxers are starting to fall off for more well rounded guys.

@@CaPnBaLlBaG I think kick boxers / muay thai fighters who can grapple & defend takedowns will be the final meta. (The strikers must also have phenomenal footwork and angles and not be stationary to not get out grappled)
@CaPnBaLlBaG2 ай бұрын
@@HowardJonesOfficial I think the final meta will be well rounded athletes who are great at striking and grappling. There will always be room in the sport for truly elite strikers like Poatan, but I genuinely don't believe you have to be a world class striker to be dominant in the UFC. Like I said above, most of the champions in the sport right now aren't elite strikers, they're just good to great. The rules and scoring criteria as they are just benefit grappling too much to ever really turn this into a true striking sport.
@HowardJonesOfficial2 ай бұрын
@@CaPnBaLlBaG I see where you're coming from, but I think a fighter who has mastered striking (since fight starts on the feet) with good grappling beats a fighter who's just "really good" at striking and grappling. If the better striker has good enough grappling to negate the well rounded fighter's grappling, then the well rounded guy gets destroyed on the feet since that's where it starts. You will never be a world class striker & grappler simultaneously, so the better striker with efficient grappling will always win in the end since he can avoid the grappling and win in the striking.
@HowardJonesOfficial2 ай бұрын
@@CaPnBaLlBaG Belal's kryptonite will be a superior striker who can negate his grappling, as for all of these guys with similar styles. Hence why it's a superior meta. If Poatan had super high level grappling and wrestling defense (although still less than striking skill), then a balanced & well rounded fighter isn't going to beat him because he wouldn't be able to strike or grapple with him without getting chinned. Rory MacDonald was super well rounded and looked like the future but still got outclassed by guys who could strike and wrestle better.

The old school idea was that everyone needs to train bjj in the gi even mma fighters. That has slowly changed as people realized it’s just not sport specific and time could be better spent. I personally feel like we should take it a step further and spend less time (still some) doing no gi bjj and instead do more time in what I would call mma grappling. Gloves on simulating light strikes for most of your grappling training with some pure no gi bjj for supplement.

Imagine you were training for a year in boxing and were sparring Mike Tyson in his first month of training. He's going to annihilate you. People are just born with different natural abilities. Some people intuitively understand the technique better than others. I'm no expert, but I think the only thing you can do is carefully pay attention and see where you are struggling. When rolling either someone and they beat you in some position, ask them to replay that position with you until you can pinpoint a mistake. Ask for the trainer's help in pinpointing your mistake. You could ask to film some rolling sessions and then ask the trainer to review the parts where you are stumped. Become a scientist.
