I'm pretty sure he was talking about countries who are claiming to be Islamic and following Shariah but failing to be really Islamic. There are lots of countries like these and It's not easy to do so in these times either.

I am recieving law education in a secular country and from what I have seen, I have to disagree with Dr. Ally. Surah an'Nisa 65 clearly posits that "But no! By your Lord, they will never be ˹true˺ believers until they accept you ˹O Prophet˺ as the judge in their disputes, and find no resistance within themselves against your decision and submit wholeheartedly" If a person casts a vote in a system built upon non-Islamic values, they are actively displaying their support and even participating in it. For it is this system that grants itself the jurisdiction to adjudicate matters based on its own secular laws instead of the laws of Allah and the prophet. If we are to take place in this system which is a "taghut" by the definition of Nisa 60, then we are committing a grave sin, possibly the gravest of them all. I believe that the idea of Tawhid requires Muslims to be bound by the laws of God and the prophet, ipso facto this is what the nature of the Qur'an expresses.

Your arguments are valid if you, meaning every Muslim follower of the Quran, lives within an Islam system governed country! The moment you reside within a non-Islamic governed country you must accept the laws of that country, just as you expect non-Muslim individuals to respect the Shariah in Islamic nations. Perhaps your comment reflects a fundamental and cardinal difference between our two Socio-political systems! In the secular democracies the laws are independent from the religions of its citizens (there is freedom and equality of religious belief), whereas the Islamic nations have a political-religious foundation underpinning its system Shariah. I hope you succeed in you project in learning the law of a secular country, because if you persist with your present position, you have not understood the fundamental difference between our Socio-political systems!

The thing about voting is that what if you accidentally, or even intentionally, vote for the wrong person or thing? Well that could be an extremely big sin.

voting is a kind of positive engagement which means you are giving the system, validity and your direct consent to legislate for your life ... the government, to be valid according to its own paradigm, NEEDS your votes. The questions should be more in line whether we need voting or in other words is voting gonna help us in any way? Let's see, two options: 1:) candidate or a party who partly represents some of the values you live by, 2.) other candidates who represent most of the things that go against your values, mostly (some of which go against you and your community, directly or indirectly) .... - first point: If you voted you recognised the system, you gave your consent and thus need to comply even when you lose the game, cus you recognised the game and your active part in it. So whatever they end up doing or deciding you gave it your consent. (and you are already on a losing side and you know it ..no matter how you play the game... the entire system is set up on a different religion i.e. Liberalism) - second point: Communities don't need voting to be successful as you can see asian community in the west doing pretty well (most of them don't vote ) ... a lot of the things done in the community is by the community, so why even bother voting ? - third point: only The Creator has a right to legislate for you ... you know that you cannot accept some things imposed by liberal governments (founded on the individualistic creed) so why give them your consent ? why play their game? .. solution: Comply with the laws of the land to the extent it agrees with your values and build up your community and discuss the nuances in between I actually don't subscribe to either view, just wanted to give an alternative arguments (poorly presented, I admit) of the position, not to not vote but why rely on voting to develop yourselves and your communities? is it really necessary?

Voting will be wajib if it is necessary to choose a pro Muslim ruler or to avoid evil regime. If you don't have that indention and just participating and promoting a system other than Islam then it will be Haram Scholars have to discuss and come to a conclusion and educate Muslims about our supporting party or candidate to consolidate Muslim vote to one side. If two Muslims vote deferent candidate then effect will be zero.

I believe many Muslims stumbled with quite a number of conservative Muslims who claimed that democracy is a bad thing and not in accordance with Islam, thus "must be opposed". They think living under the umbrella of syariah or caliphate is the actual commandment of God. Democracy is about mutual consultation *42v38* Those who hearken to their Lord, and establish regular Prayer; who (conduct) their affairs by *mutual Consultation*; who spend out of what We bestow on them for Sustenance; Unfortunately there are also simpletons among Muslims who cannot understand the concept of mutual consultation. Simpletons are easily preyed upon by manipulative forces (eg extremist mullah/politicians) to satisfy their own personal agenda and similar form of exploitation can occur in various grp of ppl

Agree totally with your comments Furqan. And Canadian values are universal and Islamic, recognised as we learn from these exceptional videos. Its pluralist cosmopolitan ethics are a benchmark for the world. From a personal perspective Australia, where voting is compulsory, the minorities including indigenous people do not have their aspirations realised.

The only way that Allah allowed committing shirk (with mouth, not with heart) is under ikrah (threatened). This guy here it's taking fatwa, from two bad things take the softest one. And this rule is for fiqh and not for akida. This guy is murted.
