I've actually been corrected by a native speaker a couple of times when used DEBES DE in the way you teach here, and I was confused! It helps to know that native speakers don't know the grammar rule, so I'm sure that's why it happened. I won't doubt myself again! De hecho alguien me ha corregido al usar DEBES DE como Ud. enseña aquí, y me confundí mucho. Me sirve bastante saber que incluso los hablantes nativos no saben bien la regla de gramática, por eso me hace sentir más segura de por qué me pasó así.
