I hope one day I get the chance to go to one of your classes as I have learned more from you than any other teacher I’ve ever had! Thanks Mr. Stoeger!

Started with a red dot first two guns. And my third gun with iron sights. Try to be target focused in both. Iron is good for me up to 25 yards. After that red dot only works so far. Then there is having to change glasses. For 25 - 50 yards. It is all an interesting learning experience. Takes time, patience and motivation....And your outstanding videos.

After shooting irons my whole life (okay, not my WHOLE life, but 45 years) I decided to go with an optic as my eye sight started going bad and my irons were almost completely blurred out. I was actually getting pretty decent with it, but not as good or as fast as I once was with irons. My instructor told me that he could get me over the hump. He told me before my next class to go home and remove both my front and rear sights completely. I did. Then the next day at class he put a piece of black duct tape over the front of my optic. Basically, he took my training wheels away. It worked! Now I’m going to put my irons back on only because I EDC my optic gun now and want that backup just in case the optic goes down.

for practical reason one should learn how to shoot iron sights first. red dot requires power (battery/solar) to function and in the event it losses power you still use iron sights as your back up. And its the best way to learn sight alignment and target focus and overall marksmanship

Red dots are hyped in the market place as the "way of the future." I work with new shooters on occasion. Red dot is not helpful to someone who is new and struggling with everything from grip and stance to how to load a magazine. Simpler is better for most new shooters.

a red dot is simpler to understand than irons. 3 focal planes vs 1.
