That being said paying Holiday only works well if a) Cousins extends and b) you trade Jrue Holiday for a younger, cheaper guy and another asset within 2 years. You can't wait improving further until AD's contract is up and Asik and Ajinca are off the books. Wait what Boogie does and take a risk at point guard first chance you can trade Holiday if Boogie stays and you can get young guys with upside who are cheaper. Sign a cheap veteran like you did with Rondo or OKC did with Felton as an insurance so you can still attack at least a low playoff spot if the risk doesn't pay off. I guess both Boogie and AD are loyal enough but you gotta give them some perspective and hope of having more help, Jrue and no wing players (at least no healthy ones) AND no backup big to play 6-10 minutes a game or fill in during an injury is not enough

The Pelicans roster is atrocious. I hope that my Lakers get Boogie. If we get him and the Lakers keep Julius Randle our rebounding will improve so much. The rebounding aspect will help the fast paced fast break offense we already maintain. Lonzos passing will make the team play great coming off rebounds and the offense in general. Ingram will still be improving much like Lonzo will be doing.

If they are serious about keeping the two bigs then they need to shed some salary to add pieces. I don't really want them to split up because I know whichever top team one went to would tip scales again. I'd trade: Holiday and Asik for Dennis Schroder and Ken Bazemore, that would free up 48 million to add some role players. And if Boogie is serious about wanting to stay with Pelicans he should offer to take a slight cut to pay if he wants to really have a shot at a title and do it with New Orleans. Which would suck and not be totally fair, both these bigs are worth that max contract but A.D has no hand in it since he already has a contract for a few years. If one of them leaves they prolly going to Cleveland, LA, or Boston if looking for the payday and title contention. Idk if Cleveland has the space.

The thing is, this makes sense for teams in big markets to trade away and build. But it is such a struggle to lure guys to New Orleans and then you have to overpay them. If AD played on a shit team based in Chicago/LA/NYC/Boston... then free agents would be lining up to join him, but no one wants to come down to Louisiana (except the likes of Solomon Hill and E'Twaun Moore and Ian Clark). Unless they get a great offer, they have to try to keep Boogie because it likely won't get any better until they get lucky in another draft (and the AD draft was super lucky)

I have to say. This is one of first times where I completely disagree with Tmac. Like Rachel said, you're not gonna get back a player comparable to AD if you trade him, and it would just be a move to give your franchise new options like Tmac said. I think Tmac is conforming to this era where a lot of fans and analysts think that if a team is not contending right now, they have to start rebuilding. But that mindset doesn't work very well unless you're big market team that can attract big free agents and the pelicans are certainly not that. I think having ad and cousins would be the only reason players would want to go there. And we've seen teams where AD or Cousins is he only superstar and it isn't pretty. They're still young and have to time to make it work and the pelicans can't really count on getting talent like AD back, so trading away your biggest and youngest asset seems like a bad way to go.
