At Petco we were not allowed to use muzzles cause it makes customers feel “uncomfortable “. It use to piss me off as a groomer. I’m going to get bit because the “customers are uncomfortable!.” Get bit and then tell me how “comfortable “ that is. I got bit at a different grooming salon by a Goldendoodle that bit threw my hand so deep I was on antibiotics for 2 weeks. There was blood everywhere. In the ER they were shocked that a “sweet doodle would do that.” I’ve owned pit bulls and they never did anything like that. Also I’ve been grooming for over 15 years and never got bit by a pitbull. I didn’t leave the grooming business over pit bulls I left cause the golden doodles are so crazy and inbred that when I’m done with one it felt like I was fighting a bear. I’d go home so exhausted that I would be in bed by 6. In Tennessee I had at least 2 a day. It’s like doing a standard poodle on crack and bath salts. And the way they pull away when you shave their front legs cause carpal tunnel quick. I had surgery for it on my right hand and still need it on my left.

Dog trainer here! For me, the biggest difference with pit bull’s showing aggressive behavior, and other breeds (even other large breeds like Dobermans, shepherds, etc) is the type of aggression or reactivity I see. I think unfortunately, when I typically see “reactive” or “aggressive” behavior from a pit bull or bully breed, especially towards dogs or young children, it’s very often I see predatory behavior. I personally would think this would be due to genetics. Most dogs who display aggressive behavior towards other dogs or people out of fear are not a risk of serious damage or death. Most dogs who are reactive or even bite out of fear are using aggression to make space, so they’re not going to (most often at least) use excessive force or continue to land bites. Some pit bull aggression is not aggression at all but it’s prey drive that has been bred into them. A dog going after another dog out of fear and need for space is very different from a dog going after another dog because of prey drive. I think Gia from ThinkingCanine has a great video of a bully mix stuck in a shelter who displays very alarming predatory behavior towards other dogs and small children. And she makes a great point even about dogs that just have predatory behavior towards other dogs being adopted out and potentially causing serious damage or even killing someone elses dog. I don’t have nearly the experience or qualifications she has, so she might be an interesting guest to have on the podcast! I am still not pro a pit bull ban, have met many amazing pitties in clients or otherwise that I love, but I do feel the mischaracterization of the type of issues we see is super dangerous. Also side note: I too hate Matt Walsh and his behavior, and his arguments are,, problematic to say the least 😅

Personally I don’t love putting down other breeds like chihuahuas and Maltese to bring up pit bulls. To say oh this breed doesn’t get reported so you don’t really know how aggressive they are compared to other breeds is one insensitive to people who have been attacked by bully breed dogs (not pitbulls) and is just disingenuous because they’re are numerous larger breeds that could do more damage than a pit bull that would get 100% reported on. Bully breed dogs are some of most abundant mixes in shelters so there 100% is a disproportionate amount of these dogs going into homes with a less than ideal background.

Would’ve been nice to have some stats on the first pitbull issue. Topic wise it comes across more as an unrelated hit piece than looking at the arguments. But Walsh is a professional a-hole and if you hint towards otherwise, people will cancel you, so theres that. Appreciate the pod
