Well that’s all very interesting, I change from month to month and year to year, drifting from bullion to junk, to proofs to collectables - enjoying all aspects 👊

I try to be more disciplined. But it's easy to make excuses when a neat piece rolls into a local shop!

Outstanding knowledge and information. Am looking at collecting the Eagle S proofs. S is San Francisco mint but also appears to be the proofs looking at redbook. You are like a coin professor. Tyvm

My main focus is on 1970's silver art bars. I reached my "bullion" goal about a year ago, so I made the fun switch to rare art bars from the 70's...coolest stuff ever made! Fun Fact...they made over 40,000 different silver art bars in the 70's and 80's. Some you can get for a few bucks over spot, some will cost you hundreds over spot. Beware...its as additive as crack cocaine.

I did some early videos about the art bars of the 1970s. A fascinating way to stack silver. They were absolutely hated when I was a young stacker and I bet at least 50% or more have been melted. They used to be everywhere and now they are like hen's teeth--at least the "good" ones!

New sub came over from 49sfine I started collecting numismatics when I was 12 years old, I am now 67. I started stacking at the massive drop in 1986. Personally, I prefer to buy bullion as bullion.I rather pay for sovereign US currency than buy high premium silver or gold bullion . Now we all look at things with a different eye,I totally understand the appeal of well made/designed silve and gold ingots. I have had to slap my paying hand more than once to keep from buying a proof Silvr Eagle,they are so gorgeous,but they are only a silver ingot.

A great philosophy.

I own a small number of proofs (all British Overseas Territories and all bought aftermarket) but the proof market here in the UK has really tanked - mainly due to price and the Royal Mint stopping some series before completion. Very pretty but only rarely considered by myself. Good video - thank you! 👍

My thoughts, too. They have a very specialized place but the market can easily get over saturated and then they're just fancy coins in fancy boxes.

@@Dub-C_Coins Many of them are certainly beautiful but just not really for me; a bit ‘over manufactured’? - I definitely prefer circulating coins (particularly chop marked trade dollars 🙂)

the maple leaf is for spending because that's exactly what I plan on doing when the time comes. I would like to stack silver kilos and a little bit of gold till I have $10,000 to put a down payment on an excavator. If I buy collectible coins because they're non typical like an Indian chief (non-typical) or a painted dragon gold coin I still for see some day when I would trade or sell the coins and the beauty of the coin may just pay into the sell or trade

Sometimes, large bullion companies will sell a proof in the mix with non-proofs. SDB has done it. Got a 1/10 gold Australian proof coin in a random 1/10 gold oz. purchase

@KailuaSunset that's happened to me too!

What is your opinion on the non privy silver flowing hair being only 50.000 of the 75.000 were available for purchase?
@Dub-C_Coins2 ай бұрын
I hadn't heard that. But it's not surprising if the big dealers got an allotment. The whole process is flaky. I liked the order process itself--went really smoothly. But I don't like the big dealers getting first crack. That doesn't seem fair. And the auction for the gold privy? Not a fan at all.

Is BU - Bright Uncirculated considered as Proof?
@BoxStudioExecutive3 ай бұрын
No. Proofs have a mirror-finish background.
@Dub-C_Coins3 ай бұрын
No, but that's a great question. They are two different things. BU generally means "brilliant uncirculated"--that's the highest condition of circulation or business strike and corresponds to the numerical grades of 60 to 70. Proofs are an entirely different manufacturing process. A business strike, BU or otherwise, can never be a proof. And a proof can never be a business strike, no matter how worn or damaged it is.
