I bought a ADATA XPG SX8200 1TB two months ago and been running perfect, to me there is no reason to dish more money for the 970evo, the pro still is the pro with its better performance and endurance, but to me the average user will be more than happy with the ADATA XPG SX8200.

I have the non-Pro SX8200 (1TB). It's a very good NVMe SSD and is generally one of the cheapest available (with on-board DRAM) to boot - ADATA is really hitting it out of the park lately. Your video didn't really answer this question: how is the Pro different than the non-Pro? It seems like the Pro has slightly higher rated read speeds and significantly higher rated write speeds. Warranties and MTBF seem the same. So, what workloads would the Pro (which has quite a bit higher write speeds, both sequential and random) be worth the presumably higher cost over the SX8200 non-Pro? I guess, ultimately, we'll need to wait for pricing on the Pro.
@GearSeekers
@GearSeekers 6 жыл бұрын
I don't have the non pro so It wasn't right for me to talk about it. That's the reason why I will do the testing and present the info. I did try to get pricing info but they didn't have any to give me.

Is this MLC, TLC or QLC chips, because ADATA is too shy to say, and it is most important factor to me, while buying nvme m.2 drive (I already have 2x1TB Samsung on MLC). Im not interested in caching, they all use SLC, I want to know what is exact type of the chips. If someone can tell me, I would be glad, as I want to upgrade my storage for 3rd drive, this time 2TB, but I want to avoid QLC.

At $95 total for the 512GB SX8200 Pro NVMe SSD, you can't beat that saving almost $40 compare to the 970 Evo and $70 to the 970 Pro! Mid April, 2019 and now the SX8200 Pro doesn't come with the chipset you saw before.... No more ADATA nor Nanya chipset..... it comes now with Micron server NAND Flash Chipset and some other brand SLC and DRAM chip that has printings of "SEC 904".... whatever that is! By the end of the year and the price will drop tremendously you'll see!

I guess you should talk about this in your future reviews :). Edit : I found out after watching a different review of this drive on KZbin that the speed of the 512gb variant drops to 500 MBps after running out of SLC cache which makes it 100 MBps slower than 970 EVO 500GB.

compare real measurements with spec ones? 970 evo 500gb write is 1500 speced.. real performance is around 1300.. after cache runs put its speced to run 600.. real perf is lower...

The ADATA 6000 NVME runs hot at idle. I use one for a Pagefile/Dump drive and it sits at 55 to 60 degrees idle. My Samsung NVMe sits at 33 degrees. I would also say I have added a proper heatsink to it and it still sits at that. So without it may run even hotter. As for the 8200? No idea.

Why run it against the 970 EVO and not the 970 PRO
@WindowFluffer
@WindowFluffer 5 жыл бұрын
HoundDogMech because the 970 evo of the same size is the same price point, versus the pro I got the XPG sx8200 pro because the 500gb version was $70 versus the 970 evo at $70 was only a 250gb, you’ll pay 2x that for a higher capacity and only marginally better performance at the same price point $70 that I purchased the xpg comes out on top of the 970 evo if willing to pay 2x more then sure the 970 pro takes the cake in larger capacities but not by much to me it wasn’t worth it. The 1tb version of both is only marginally better. But I’m sure the evo comparison was for a better price range on the 970.

Thanks that makes a lot of scenes ... I have an ASUS gaming laptop I use for video editing ... a little more than a ear ago I installed a WD 500G NVMe M,2 PCIe SSD and I just looked back at what I paid $224. Man have the prices come down. Wish this Machine had 2 slots fore M.2 SSD's
@WindowFluffer
@WindowFluffer 5 жыл бұрын
HoundDogMech no problem, I’m glad the comment made sense lol, but that was the deciding factor on my purchase tbh the performance over price didn’t make much sense when you factor its only like 3% faster for 2x the money. Versus the xpg which is half the price for the same performance gain and the ability to have a larger capacity is why I bought it, it’s a great nvme especially for price, and yikes that is a ton of money I’m glad I waited the prices have come down significantly since then and that was last year? I have enough for 2 nvme but it slows my PCIe speeds if I use the top slot so I’m just using the one 512 gb seems a good size for me I’ll be adding a SATA ssd soon to hold my games to not take up all the space on my nvme. But glad I could help man take care.

For SX8200 (non Pro) all test still close call for 970 Evo except for Sustain Write, SX8200 got far better And now not wonder SX8200 Pro won over 970 Evo especially in PRICE in my country SX8200 Pro is $70 cheaper :D

Severely disappointed in this drive. I bought one because of this review and I'm getting just awful write speeds on my drive. BIOS is set to PCIE X4. I get 3000mb/s read speed but my write speeds won't go any further than 800 mb/s no matter what I do. Will be returning for a Samsung 970.

PLS do veracrypt encrypt test. It overflows SLC buffer because it forces write on whole disk and tests real NAND speed, not buffer speed. SX8200 only had 460MB/s real speed compared to old m8pe 1020MB/s. 970 EVO was even slower with only 329MB/s. pclab.pl/zdjecia/artykuly/wkoczyk/201809/adata_sx8200/vera_crypt.png

No i have two XPG drives from adata all was handy dandy when new but, adata has terrible reliability look it up, never again, my old 850 evo's perform the same as they did when they where new, on the other hand both my XPG drives which are m.2 perform worse than the SATA 850 evo's and those XPG drives both failed about 9 months in yes they have a 5 year warranty but it is a PAIN IN THE ASS.

Read speeds are similar but not the write speeds. It's still in the top 40 SSD /NVMe drives from real-life benchmarking (cpu.userbenchmark.com) The Samsung is still just ahead by a whisker.
