I agree, first it was PC, now it's racism and BLM. We are not a backward third world country, so why should we accept being dragged backwards to being just that. It was all blown up out of proportion because an armed robber and drug addict was murdered in America by the police, the four policemen involved have all been charged and thrown out of the police force. The point being the man was not a hero, and it happened in the USA, so what has it got to do with the U.K. ? All I see is a bunch of third world morons that can barely speak English, have never done a days work in their lives, running around shouting and looting. @@thelasthourgetready I think it's an awesome spiritual/gospel song that shows that although black slaves may have had manacles on their legs that kept their physical bodies in bondage, their hearts were still free and they were awaiting the Lord to come and gather them and take them home... John 8: 31,32,36 Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." But free from what? Free from the consequences of sin... Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. John 8: 34 Jesus: "Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin." So instead they became voluntary slaves to righteousness Romans 6: 17,18, 22 Thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. Now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. It's where all the gospel blues came from that have inspired today's popular music, i.e. it can all be traced back to that. So shall we ban it all? No, we should keep all it in remembrance of the suffering that caused the bulk of a certain people to turn to God for the spiritual freedom of redemption in place of the physical freedom that sadly eluded them on this earth. God only knows how many of them will be in heaven who wouldn't have been were it not for the suffering of slavery that drove them into Gods arms, for He works in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform. Sure, the slave trade was a dark cloud in human history, but could the redemption of those suffering people be the silver lining? I like to think so.... Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake. Matthew 16: 24~28 Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. He will gather His people and take them home and the black believers will be among them. Here they are depicted in heaven... Revelation 7:9 I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes (the credited righteousness of Christ) and were holding palm branches in their hands. Galatians 3: 6~9 Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” 7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. What a way to turn a negative into a positive.

They never talk about how African tribes were selling Africans to European for hundreds of years, they never talk about Egyptians and their use of slaves for hundreds of years, they never talk about the Barbary Pirates of North Africa who enslaved over one million Europeans in a one hundred year period, they never talk about the slavery that was practiced by the Arabs in the past and more importantly to this very day. Firstly we don't need to take the opinions of extremist minorities as statements of fact and the background to the song clearly is the opposite of an endorsement of slavery. And Martin if you'd been born in Africa during the times of slavery the slave catchers you'd need to evade would have been BLACK. And someone should tell Talk Radio Martin has never represented England RFU he was a Rugby League international and we do not sing SLSC in Rugby League. His nickname of "Chariots" Offiah is down to his great running ability Sweet FA to do with the song.

I'll sing whatever I want to sing. Cultural appropriation is absurd, all cultures have been sharing each others cultures for thousands of years. I dont care if a black dude or lass dyed their hair blonde or straightened their hair or wore trousers or a Tie . If they play rugby is that not the same cultural appropriation ? To have a successful multi cultural society dont we need to be tolerant if British culture too? The UK was not an empty void that needed all new culture implemented. We have a long and interesting history. One side of my family can be traced back to the 1100s. This is so absurd now, 89% of Brits say they would have no problems if someone of another ethnicity married and had kids with their son or daughter. 92% said they'd have no problem with someone of another race living next door to them. The ethnicity that expressed most displeasure with these that made up over a third of the remaining 8% *wasnt even white!*. What more do they want? We either take a stand and start speaking up when these crazies keep telling us if we dont do what they want then we're racist, or lose our culture and dignity forever.

The song wing low swing chariot came from story of prophet Elijah being taken up to heaven in the presence of his apprentice who later became prophet Elisha. Elisha's response at the sight of the Chariots of Fire was "My Father my father the chariots of Israel and its horsemen"
