The real tragedy is that there even is a debate that this kind of cruelty and misuse of power over greed , jealousy and racial intolerance could possibly be anything else but a genocide.

@@annbennett217 Not really. Acadians and Natives intermixed from time to time, but not nearly significant enough to call the entire Acadian population "a race". That's just silly.

He excludes the intermarried families, Acadian & Mi'Kmaq. He excludes the fact that many died jailed on ships and brought to ENGLAND to be jailed. Many were also brought to the Islands and treated like crap there too. Never have I heard that my peoples made it back to France.. He must be a Brit at heart!

The deportation began in Acadia with Lawrence and Amherst and Amherst continued killing all the way to standing rock to eradicate the Roman Catholic families. It was the precursor for the American Revolution. That was the battle that followed all this.

The Acadians and the Micmac Indigenous people in the Atlantic Provinces were equally treated poorly by the British soldiers under the command of Charles Lawrence and Lord Robert Monckton in the 18th century of Acadia the expulsion of the French Acadians happened between 1755-1764 in all of the Acadians 14,000. 11,055 Acadians were deported from Acadia. And in a census taken in 1764 only 2,600 Acadians escape some of whom freeze to death because they had no shelter or died of hunger. Sadly also when the British sent some of the Acadians to be deported to England and France a ship known as the Violet it sank in the middle of the Atlantic ocean as it sailed to France killing hundreds of Acadians aboard men, women and children. 😔😢

Uh yea... are you ppl even acadian? Yeesh. Louisiana... eventually...????? In 1755 we were put on ships and sent away from everything we knew, with no real destination being set for us... we starved till someone would let us on land. That doesn't even come close to explaining what they did to the ones of us who didn't get on the ships. We shoulda all been wiped out from these atrocities. It is by sheer luck, strength, and wit, that we exist today. Ya'll shouldn't even be allowed to debate genocide up in your fancy news room 🙄

I find three of your comments slightly off-putting. Why does it matter if they aren't Acadian? Why shouldn't they be allowed to talk about Acadians? And what was about the Louisiana comment that you found offensive?

“The intention of the Acadian removal was not to exterminate,” he said. “Did it have the consequence of killing thousands? Yes. But to bring a charge of genocide … you must be able to show intent.” “There’s no doubt that a moral atrocity was committed", "It’s a very complicated story. The attempt to try to reduce it to a simple moral binary: was it genocide or not, really misses the point.” -John Mack Faragher, Professor, Historian I'm going to let the relevant literature, as well as the opinions of scholars, historians, and sociologists, mould my understanding of what occurred with Acadia and Acadians, and whether or not it's deemed to be called a "genocide".

So when you murder half of a population what would you call that? Ethnic cleansing? Genocide, ethnic cleansings or whatever you want to call it - they tried to eliminate, in one way or another, through death or forced removal an entire people.
