On Banhammer we discuss banned cards with the Cardmarket Yugioh team, and whether they should be banned or if they can roam free in people's decks again!
Crystron Halqifibrax took years to be imported to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, and when it did, BOY, did it make an impact. So much of an impact, it recently got banned. Did it deserve to be banned, and can it ever come back?

@@ib5131 I didn't agree with those bans at all but they couldn't exist while Halq was running rampant because they facilitated halq plays too well. Jet sychron was a 1 card full halq combo and O-lion was really good because of its token making and being able to be summoned from deck by auroradon. Jet into linkuriboh, bring back jet with its effect and make halq, summon deskbot from deck and make auroradon (into 3 tokens and revived deskbot) and so on was such a simple but effective combo because it led to strong boards that were very easy to make. Also Jet was searchable by Tuning and could even be summoned off One for One. On their own these tuners were ok, but halq led to just so much BS that they simply cannot be allowed unless Halq got hit or if the game power crept to the point where halq combo is no longer viable and I am not sure I wanna see that 😅

I loved halq as a zombie world player. He made zombies have a higher ceiling with baronne and accesscode AND be 10x more consistent by summoning glow up bloom AND be able to play through more interaction. He needs to stay banned as he currently is.

I want halq back solely so i can use my zombies again. I don't think he's as bad as everyone makes him to be. But they are right, i have seen a massive use reduction of Access code talker since the Halq ban. They should errata the card so that it can't be used as a material for an extra deck monster the turn his effect to summon a synchro monster is activated.

Halq can never come off the list without some kind of errata restricting how it's summoned or what tuners it can summon. Reminder that Halq is the main reason for a lot of tuners being on the forbidden and limited list.

@@FlyXcur Here is the thing, just because a non meta deck can use a broken card to do actually fun stuff, doesn't mean that meta decks wont use it to do some absolutely heinous stuff and that the card is ok. I totally get your sentiment but for the greater health of the game, some cards should just stay behind bars. Also cards like Halq and even Verte ultimately hinder future card design because certain cards (like tuners and fusion spells) would have to be made with those in mind constantly so thats not good either.

One of those sad cases of a card that catapulted strong decks into insanity but the actual archetype barely saw play. I wish it required at least one Crystron card so at the very least those other decks would be forced to run other engine cards or garnets.

My biggest issue isn't even necessarily the power level but the mass homogenization of deck building it enabled by making scythe lock and appo plays t1 consistent for almost any kind of deck and accesscode for any deck going 2nd making players run much of the same extra deck between disparate strategies. While it brings some weaker decks up in power it becomes "why would I ever play tier 3 link deck when tier 1 link deck can make the exact same halq lines and has some other benefit" as opposed to each deck having a specific gameplan

tbh any deck can link climb into acesscode that one is def not halq's fault, link itself makes acesscode a freebie, just like all decks can run summon 2 into verte/dpe, the only difference is that halq openers were really strong so there was no reason to run something else those 2 are very similar the only difference being the power lvl while halq was much higher allowing for a really strong endboard while verte/dpe is really not strong enough to be called a enboard meaning a lot of decks need to up put in a lot of effort to not end in dpe pass

Halq with an errata to balance (not nuter) out how easy and splashable it was before would be nice. Maybe actually have it be more beneficial to played in archetype (Crystrons need to be updated as an archetype anyways). I mean you know the card is an issue when cards around it get banned instead of the problem card itself. I have simliar feelings towards Verte too.

Accesscode is mostly used in cyberse decks with update jammer for OTKs these days, less as a generic finisher like how Sky Striker used it

Halqui is one of the most broken cards ever printed and i don't think is going to get powercreeped, you can summon any Tuner for free, also people forget that the Effect of summoning a Synchro Tuner is also busted even if its on your opponents turn.

I agree: Generic extra deck staples like Halq will not be power creeped, because they would be part of the power creep. If in the next sets we get good tuners, which don’t take into account halq, his ban will be reinforced.

Another reason why Halq should stay banned : it limits card design for tuner monsters. If this card was still legal they would have to design tuners keeping this card in mind and any good tuners that currently exist would have a target on their backs because of this card. So yeah its overall healthier for the game to have this card be banned until power creep makes it obsolete

Halq could come back if they added a restriction that prevented you from summoning anything other then synchro monsters from the extra deck the turn to you use either of its effects.

It becomes a defacto plan b for any deck that can summon halq(so all of them)

And AGAIN, it may not do much in the current format but that line alone WILL eventually see wide spread play. Also that probably isn't even the main reason that it can't be unbanned I'd give that the fact that since it can cheat out damn near any tuner it MASSIVELY limits design space for tuner, because any tuner you make now has to take this one card into consideration or get banned like MULTIPLE tuner had to be just for this card. There's no feasible reason this thing should come off the bablist anytime soon.

The funny thing about this card... I hated facing it. HATED facing it. Then I went "FIIIIIIIIIIINE. I'll add it to the deck, I thought of a few ways I can get it to work with my stuff." So I ordered a single off a card reseller and between my order and the time I got it, it got banned in Master Duel. I went "well ok. I can still use it in my Real Life deck." I get it, and the same day it arrived... it got banned in the TCG as well. I couldn't help but laugh at myself for that to be honest

People feel so strongly about halq, but the card was NOT meta for a very large amount of its release life. The card is obviously very good, but it CAN be power crept. If the card was archetype locked somehow like requiring a crystron as materials or only summoning a crystron or locking you into crystrons, the card would be bad.

As someone who really likes synchro decks, I won't miss halqifibrax. Jet synchron and Destrudo stayed on the banlist for months just to keep that card legal and it felt like almost all synchro decks came down to "halq turbo", making their playstyle very streamlined and at the same time boring imo. Good riddance to halq, happy we got our favorite tuners back!

Halq was great in rogue decks but the meta abused it. Solution is simple, release a Halq in-house for those rogue archetypes. Blue eyes white dragon baby (L2, 1 tuner that mentions “Blue Eyes” in its name + 1 non tuner that mentions “Blue Eyes” in its name): it summon a Blue Eyes tuner from deck but this turn it cant activate its effects. Second effect same as Halq to allow some spice. Now, copy and paste for other rogue decks and profit.

Halq could be unbanned if it was changed to only let you summon Crystron monsters. Basically, if it only lets you summon a Crystron tuner from the deck and tribute it to summon a Crystron tuner from the extra deck, it is fine. The problem with it is how it is completely generic. Any deck can play it because even if they don't play tuners, they will likely play multiple handtraps that are tuners. If it required a Crystron garnet in your deck, it probably wouldn't be as splashable. And if that is still too powerful, make it take a Crystron tuner to link summon as well so they'd have to play two Crystrons in their deck to use it.

Honestly it's such a great card, a lot of synchro decks really need the consistency boost, I hope it comes back with an errata, maybe negate the effects of monster with the name of monster it summons until the end of turn, lock into synchro, or lock into just 1 more special summon. Locking to crystron only would be bad tho.

The fact that halq combo ability allow effect vailer to be comparable to Infinite Impermanence. Because of access lines for decks that otherwise never would have a line to it before. Is why this card should always stay ban.

Halq made niche or rogue decks good and the best decks broken. To me it's not so much an issue of card advantage as it is an issue of the best archetypes having no (or not enough) restrictions on what they can summon. The same way you've got a "for the rest of the turn, you can only summon fiend monsters" when you activate the effect of one of the evil twins (which is an average archetype), having a "for the rest of the turn, you can only summon wyrm monsters" on the core cards of Swordsoul or Tenyi for example, would have been a good way to keep Halq (and Auroradon or galaxy tomahawk btw) off the field while still allowing the archetype to build solid boards... So basically, decks with an innate potential for high ceiling shouldn't have a way to get it higher while lesser decks should still have a way of getting a bit of a higher ceiling to compete and keep a good level of diversity in the meta And no scythe, no scythe lock (pretty self-explanatory), less wonder magician into Baronne on the field. So scythe banned good...

I also loved Halqifibrax, but also agree that it had to be banned. Another reason that it needed to go is because it limits design space for future low level tuners. I don’t believe Konami would have released Hundred Apple Dragon if Halq was still legal. On another note, does anyone think Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon could come back without our Needlefiber companion? I miss that card too.

When legal you could easily, in both therionPunk and Dlink, use halq to summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity during opp main phase which is completely broken.

Halqifibrax must stay at jail forever. BUT, with some kind of errata, it can be free (Need a Crystron Tuner for summoning, Special Summon a Crystron Tuner from hand or Deck and locked into Synchro Summon after either one of its effects was used) That's a lot of change to do, and I don't think Konami would make any of this ideas and just laught at us on its pile of money (That's so sad for a card mike this)

Using Halq as a disruption during the opponents turn was always fun for me when I used my penguin deck. But as much as I loved it, Halq is just way too easy abuse, which is frustrating since I really like the idea of the card.

Halquifibrax, Anaconda, and Masquerena are all super neat cards but they do hurt the game. Also I can't recall if there is an Xyz equivalent since these support Synchro, Fusion, and Link respectively.

Masq is strong, but not AS strong (yet), since you can't use a Link monster to summon it, meaning... You can't summon it from jet synchron alone unlike Halq or Verte. Also Masq can't dodge imperm unlike Halq.

I’ve never heard some1 else say this but ever since needlfiber was released in OCG I always seen him as trash, unless Summoning tuners r an easy task and the tuner he has access to r broken af. And summoning a tuner without going into ur typical synchro plays 1st and only is a difficult task normally and the tuners he can summon r to good to being able to be SS from deck. If not for the best tuners being wat they r, needlefiber wud have never seen meta relevant play. An$ funnily enuf, Isolde is in fact way stronger but bcuz the warriors and equip spells r balanced and/or banned just right she doesn’t see meta play all the time. I have never been able to come up with a unique way to summon needlefiber, use his effect worthwhile, and summon a big negate board like how the best decks he was ran in did without using those combos. And in fact the only way I was ever able to come up with a combo to reliably summon him was to go thru Isolde 1st and having to play a warrior tuner that just so happened to be a normal monster. While I was perfectly able to come up with multiple combo lines to make the exact same board as the needlefiber abusing decks did with using Isolde and not needlefiber.

Halq on masterduel helped me get out barron and aromage sweet majoram. These decks are ok but even i say it shouldnt be unbanned

6:45 In Master Duel all of those 3 tuners were legal last year and I'm not see them or Halq as a problem. Because when we talk about how broken Halq, usually it Scythe or Auroradon. Even after Halq ban, you can see some annoying "good stuff" when a deck can access Auroradon in Master Duel today. . Halq for Talker line isn't really broken. It is a straight line that can be stopped with any handtraps or interruptions. You still need to decrease the opponent's LP to 5300 or lower, so your best chance to Talker line is in turn 3 or 4. In that case, maybe your opponent already has something to interact with your line. . Without Auroradon and Talker line, usually I see Halq become a support for Blue-eyes and Zombies. And they are pretty fair.
