@you little cat friend Alice The political system isn't corrupt, its the career politicians voted in whom are corruptible. I've never voted tactically, I know a lot that have eg voting for the lesser evil. More people need go out of their way, do a little research and vote for an MP that truly represents them and stop worrying about it being a wasted vote otherwise there'll never be any change.
@pauls2876

@you little cat friend Alice But it's the people that have filled parliament with these spineless representatives. Just a quick search of our local MP's online to find out what their campaign slogans were and reading what they've said in public statements, you'll see they're totally opposite to how they vote in parliament. I know very few people that are aware or bothered about anything our local MP's do after they're voted in?! People need to be more responsible with their vote and MP's should be more accountable when they get things wrong which is the top and bottom of it.

Then the people being unfairly treated may wish to show their displeasure. This whole nationalist thing could be sorted out very quickly if Westminster would behave fairly and honestly with all parts of the United Kingdom. This appears to be a step too far for them, and so the Kingdom will undoubtedly be rent asunder. There's a big difference between that and some guy who wants to go around all of Northern England telling people they aren't English but Northumbrian, a Saxon kingdom that hasn't existed for over 1000 years. Scotland on the other hand, in the 300 years it's been part of the UK, retained its own legal system, had a completely different system of local government to England and Wales, army regiments there had a distinctive Scottish identity, the banks issue their own banknotes etc. The ethnic identity of Scotland and being Scottish has always been very strong even after the Act of Union. Same for Wales (although it shares a chunk of its legal system with England), same for Ireland before 1921 when the southern part broke away. If by comparison I walked round my local area in Manchester and asked 100 people if they were English or Northumbrian, I'm pretty sure the overwhelming majority are going to answer that they are English. Maybe in Liverpool I'll get the "I'm Scouse not English" answer and maybe in some of the areas near the Scottish borders I'll find people who might identify more with being Scottish than English but for the most part I don't really think most people in Northern England have suddenly decided they aren't English.

It's a shame you feel like that because most of the South values the North. My mum's side of the family is from York and it's always a pleasure going there. When I was a kid I always asked my mum if we could move there. I'm glad we're together. I'd happily defend York, Newcastle or Manchester like I would Canterbury, Colchester or Dorset. Proud to be English and for all those cities to be united as English.

Independence is not the way to go. I agree with C Lonie, the only way forward if this is whats building up in the north is a federal system. I dont like it but...if it will keep people together and not break up England into tiny chunks to be absorbed by the EU then I'd rather have a federal system than give away our nation to the EU piece by Piece.
