There's no reason for Yzerman not to at least have a conversation with Shanny.
@GaryDGuitar6 ай бұрын
Absolutely. The contract isn't a factor, there is a lot of cap and roster spots to free up. I'd imagine that Yzerman would be very interested in Marner, if it's a possibility. His age matches perfectly with Red Wings timeline, and he plays a two-way game. This is an ideal match.

Absofuckinglutly I’d take Marner. What are you guys in here thinking? Of course you take a 100+ point player. Needs a change of scenery in a bad way. We love hockey here but we ain’t Toronto total WEIRDOS about hockey. I think he’d be a wonderful fit on a young up and coming team. People forget, Yzerman loves him a good trade.

Outside of football and basketball, he offers nothing. Hardly knows baseball, doesn't know a stick from a puck when it comes to hockey. I know NFL and NCAAF are the two big guns with NBA and college hoops right behind, but ya gotta know at least a little baseball and hockey.

The Red Wings absolutely need to target defense, but I would absolutely take Mitch. *Top 6 defenseman *Top center *Goalie

WHY?!? The mistake struggling teams make is taking players that good teams have found are NOT useful in bigtime situatiions. Marner doesn't play playoff hockey, NEVER HAS, NEVER WILL. So if you want to be happy making the playoffs and doing nothing in the playoffs, which is TOTALLY contradictory to Valenti's usual stance.... (check out his past on the Pistons)

@davideggleston10316 ай бұрын
Agree we need to jump start the offense by acquiring a top six forward. Marner is a good skater similar to Larkin but not the durable beast you need in the playoffs. Trade a 1st rounder and prospects for Brady Tkachuk. Yzerman pulled it off last year with DeBrincat and he can do it again.

Not gonna just sit a high paid player. Wings need D. They gassed up on scorers last season and O improved, they have to fix the D now.
@Jalreal6 ай бұрын
Don't mortgage your future on him by signing him to an immediate extension. Otherwise, why not trade for Marner? He's pretty good and Toronto might be itching to dump him for maybe on the relative cheap. Like Kenny said, Toronto doesn't really have the leverage here.
@Ok07076 ай бұрын
Why would Toronto dump an elite winger entering his prime for cheap? They want high end players back for him. Not some maybe prospects and picks down the road. They are in a competitive window right now and will be looking to build a different way around Willy and Matthews. They already got 20-23 mil in cap space going into the summer. Trelving will be remaking the Dcore

I think Stamkos and Marner are options that we should look into or at least think about. Like you said, it may not be financially workable or even the greatest of ideas, but it doesn't hurt to look into options or to leave no stone unturned. As far as referring to some of the fan base reactions, some can't accept even a slight criticism of the Yzerman Plan or Yzerman himself because he walks on water. For some, all the draft choices are somehow going to turn into superstars, even though history tells us that a lot of these young prospects never become stars or even NHL level quality players.

For 1 year and a top end prospect while making cap space for him. Likely don’t keep Kane or Perron. Doesn’t help defense. I like the idea not sure the rest makes sense sadly. If you could some how resign him without going broke for the next 3-5 years than yeah I’m on board but ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Problem is people want results this next year but with how many rookies are likely coming up next year people better get used to the idea of a slight regress in record.

@Ok07076 ай бұрын
These guys are clueless. The Leafs aren't looking for prospects or picks. They're looking for win now pieces. The Leafs are not screwed or in cap hell. They already have 20 mil in cap space this summer and Tavares 11 mil is off the books in one year. They are going to build around Matthews and Nylander. Treliving is going to remake the Dcore this summer. They aren't trading Marner just to trade him, they want a high end players back for him

@Eddy10976 ай бұрын
It all depends on what the package to get him is gonna be and what is the price of the contract is going to be to retain him. Marner needs to come down on his Annual Cap hit to the 8-9 Milllion dollar range. no way he's worth 11+ million
@JackHammerJoe6 ай бұрын
Leafs need defense. Wings could offer up a d prospect. But it’s going to cost them more than 1 prospect
@Ok07076 ай бұрын
The Leafs aren't looking for prospects. They are in a competitive window and will be one of the most active teams in free agency and trades this summer. They already got between 20-23 in cap space going into the summer so the idea that they are in cap hell is ridiculous. Tavares deal is done in one year too. They will now build around Matthews and Nylander and don't be shocked when Toronto is built vastly better next season
@dannik99326 ай бұрын
Some brain-dead takes. Yeah we would like Marner, but that doesn't mean it's realistic getting him. The the players Toronto would want in exchange would set us back further than not having Marner. Toronto needs defense and goaltending. So do the Wings. Luckily are defensive help is here soon, what we need is a second line center and a goalie. Minor plays wing. We had a top 10 offense last year. Having Marner's goals would be great, but it wouldn't fix our problems. Marner is likely going to Nashville and exchange for Saros. So again, do I want Marner? Heck yeah. Will he solve our problem? Not really. Do I think we can get him? No, but I bet Stevie's already asked.
@vlad28386 ай бұрын
Absolutely not. “Said player” would be a disastrous underperformer here on the scale of Johnny Gaudreau in CLB and Huberdeau in Calgary.
@OFDProductions6 ай бұрын
Brandon Montour or Brett Pesce is who the Wings really need to target imo. RHD is one of the biggest positions of need and either of those guys immediately improve this blue line. That being said, Marner or Stammer would help this team greatly. Anyone crapping on those ideas needs to realize the Wings are not in a position to turn their nose up at players with that level of talent.

Finally someone with common sense. The video and the comment section seem to think the Leafs will just dump him for a few prospects and picks. They aren't blowing it up or rebuilding or in cap hell for that matter. 20+ mill in space this summer and Tavares has one year left. They want high end players for Mitch (rightfully so) and will almost certainly be aiming for an elite Dman. People shouldn't be shocked when the Leafs are better built next season
