Been watching Sailing channels on KZbin for years, I always thought I was too old at 65 to learn but watching you has inspired me so my 2 sons and myself are going to go on a 3 day course to learn the basics , thank you

Hey John, that's great. I'm sure you'll find it a bit of a challenge but hopefully lots of fun too. It's lovely to think that my little adventures have inspired you. Do let me know how you get on with the 3 day course. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get nice weather. Best Wishes ... Dave

Hi Dave Not at home in Poole this month, but in a gloriously hot, sunny, Gran Canaria. We went out on a gorgeous Sun Odyssey 49 yesterday - bliss! Anyway, re: your message about your channel… It’s so difficult to know the magic ingredient, a bit like becoming a rockstar… you can have all the talent, the songs, the looks, and not make it and yet a ‘lesser’ performer gets to the top 🤷♂️ You engage with people, very calmly too. You are good at that. You don’t talk down to us, you include errors, you go places and, most importantly, you narrate and keep us both informed and educated. Camera… Photography has always been one of my passions since my teenage days in the 70s and videography since the mid 80s. I’ve had my GoPro Hero 12 for 9 months now and it blows me away every time I use it. Its “Hypersmooth” steadying software is unbelievable! I setup a few presets but my overall general use favourite includes 4k recording at 60FPS, with both hypersmooth and horizon lock turned on. You have to see both these features to believe them. The quality is virtually broadcast level. Whilst it doesn’t have optical zoom, the 4k or 5.3k quality allows some post privation zooming. Plus, of course, you can take it underwater! Happy to talk you through the pretty simple setup if you get one. Keep us the good work! 👍

Really like ur videos. It's so good to sea "older" peeps having a go and making good seamanship decisions.

Another nice comment, thank you :-). Bill and I are trying to be sensible, we're not as agile as we were. We usually have a get out of jail option and in this case we had decided, before we left, on the wind strength we were prepared to bash to windward in and when it got there, especially as it was still increasing, we turned round and had a lovely sail back. The following day was much nicer, so it was a good decision :-). I hope you enjoy the other videos. The earlier ones where I sail to Falmouth are nice. Best ... Dave

Lovely video especially the downwind footage as you returned from whence you came!😁

Thanks Tony, it was a lovely day, it would have been perfect if the wind had stayed below 25 knots. Difficult decision to turn back but both of us felt it was the right one. Take Care .... Dave

Hi Tony, thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. Makes it all worth while. I took a lot of video over the summer so there'll be a few more to come. Hope you're keeping well ... Dave

Lovely video, nicely filmed and narrated. Brave decision to come back through the Needles channel against the tide in those conditions. I guess you were still some distance from Poole or Studland when you decided to turn back. Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Thanks for that Chris, glad you enjoyed it. Well the wind was still increasing when we decided to call it a day. Going down wind was actually quite pleasant and the waves, though a bit big, weren't really threatening. Just a bit frustrating having to retreat back to Newtown Creek. Hope you're well, best wishes - Dave

Beautiful video. Thanks. A bit more than a zephyr for SV Zephyr to handle that morning. She's looking ship shape. 👏👏

If you don't try, you don't know, and then one would only be guessing. Now you know. Well done. Best regards from Jarle

Hi Jarle, yes sometimes you've got to go and try. When I was younger we would probably plug on but Bill and I had both decide if we felt it was getting too much for us, we would turn back.... Look out for the next video to see what happened next.. Best wishes - Dave

Great sailing Dave. Gosh almost 80 that’s terrific, I hope I am as agile on my boat when I reach that age. Funny about your wind conditions, our winter has had same W winds either too strong or not enough. As we enter the warmer months NEs are our predominant winds, but they can also be a challenge later in the afternoon. Hows the sonic anti-foul going? Best, Mark
@davesailing3 ай бұрын
Hi Mark, yes despite the fact that we didn't get any further Westwards, it's was good to get the boat revved up a bit and enjoy some time in the wind and waves. I'm not almost 80 Mark, my 80th birthday was in May this year. I think I'm a very lucky boy to be able to do so much still. But Bill and I have to be careful, our reflexes aren't as fast as they used to be and we both get tired quite quickly and it takes a while to get over our exertions. it's not a complete success. The bottom gets a bit furry but it seems to wash off very easily. I did notice the other day that in a blow we didn't hit 7knots like we had at the beginning of the season. So some of it is sticking. I'll know more when she comes out the water next year. I'll be there with my camera :-) Cheers Dave

You have some amazing videos, Dave. It was great to see you in poole 2 weeks ago living living to the full. We met at the back of Brownsea island, I was on my foil buzzing around you 😂. Garry KZbin channel, 45surfdude

Hi Gary, yes good to see you too and thanks for all the entertainment on that windy day in Poole Harbour. I've got some quite good video of you and your mate foiling. I must go and buy a USB stick and copy it onto that for you. If you've got any video of that day, it would be good to combine the two and make it even more interesting. My email address is in the description of my channel page. If you email me your address I'll get the video clips to you. Thanks for making contact :-) Best Wishes -- Dave
