This couldn't be further from correct. Love is a broad sweeping generalization to encompass different types of passion, most are acquired over time through co-habitation and or dating. In-love on the other hand is described as the honeymoon phase that naturally ends on average at 6 months in. A puppy love phase. It is described as fleeting with a timer on it. I think that successful relationships either have a reciprocated early onset of love or one-or-more partners transition from in-love to love through co-habitation and dates successfully.

Unless you are a fringe case where the love is early onset mutually, the love "can be real", but usually is in-love and not love until such a time that that changes.
