That almost looks like decomposing granite in some areas. That's amazing. @4:30

Awesome video! This workshop wasn't through SIRE was it? Their workshops are usually in TX or BC and that's way to far for me. AZ would be significantly closer.

100% Use rammed earth on the exterior walls and a couple inside for thermal mass- I’ve always like the idea of a south facing glass porch with a roof that has long enough overhangs so in that in the summer much of the midday sun is blocked from shining into the porch. But in the winter, when the midday sun is at a lower elevation above the horizon that in summertime , all that sun will warm up the rammed earth wall. The wall built specifically to store that energy during the day and release it slowly throughout the long winter night. Aka passive solar heat via thermal mass.

We tried earthbag building on a small building. Very labor intensive. If you have the time, money and help, earth building is great. Super cool in the summer and easy to heat in winter. I would think if your a mason, using adobe bricks might be an easier option.

But the ramming make things rock-hard. Consider having some mechanical advantage machine?

For a Rammed Earth Home.. I guess it depends on the size of the home you want. Some off grid homesteaders in AZ go with a Weather King type of Cabin. Those are very nice and can be delivered

We have considered a Graceland building. They have a strong presence up here and they deliver. Possibly a cabin type purpose.

Hey Bro! not sure about your dirt it might need a bit more gravel in it. I was very lucky where I am to be able to use the dirt on my land it is perfect for Rammed Earth. Originally I wanted to do Mud Brick but the dirt was not suitable for that. Hence Rammed Earth the dirt is perfect. Good luck with it. It is a great learning journey.

What's the best dirt for rammed earth and why?
@iamgroot470610 ай бұрын
@@clivemossmoon3611 You can use any kind of dirt as long as it has clay content in it. In order to find out the clay percentage in the soil simply do a bottle test, put the soil in a bottle filled with water then shake the bottle well and leave it for sometime, when the soil settles down you'll be able to see the clay content forming at the top layer. If you're interested in rammed earth building then there are lots of videos on KZbin to help you out, plus you can always use google for further research and study, best wishes 👍

100% you should at least do a small building like this. I would definitely like to see that
@forsbergmicah Жыл бұрын
I’d definitely start with some walls for a garden area to block wind and create a shade shelter. Block seems the easiest and cheapest.

What are the metal loops inserted into the rammed earth wall around the 6th minute for?

Stability. They hold the walls together as the earth puts pressure outward.
