Oh, you blokes have systemised it so well, the only thing I’d do different would be to coat your form work for easy release and refurbish it after each use. Top marks. Ever think of using permanent pre-cars concrete surrounds for doors and windows?
@WildEden9 ай бұрын
Yes mate we often use form release (some people use diesel) sprayed on to the forms just before ramming. It can help with cleaning and gives a more flat finish. With concrete pre-cast we haven't used that for doors, mainly due to cost & time of preparation - it could look nice though.

Another question, don’t know if you can answer, do you do “rammed earth stabilised blocks” if so, have you ever tried gluing them instead of using mortar? I ask this because about 15 years ago I built a shed using concrete blocks and gluing them, it’s as good as the day I built it! I’m thinking of building a house using the rammed earth stabilised blocks, including some vaulted roofs for verandahs and other parts, using glue?
@WildEden9 ай бұрын
Sorry, we do not have experience with blocks... Essentially recon limestone blocks are similar. It is a totally different way of building - our guess is that cement is needed for structural integrity. An engineer would need to give advice.
@pranavsarveshn.r21044 жыл бұрын

nice work and explanations... one question do you thing the strength of rammed earth could allow it to carry a A-FRAme roof/house on top. I mean could it act as a load bearing foundation if you do a rebar splice to connect to the A frame?

What do you do with the holes from the pins? Or will you plaster the walls either from outside or inside?

We filled the holes after the walls were rammed and have designed them with colour so they look unique - we would hate to think of hiding them under render! You could do that if you wanted to though. what happens to the walls when there is serious rain or flooding?
@WildEden4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, we use (and sell) a product that makes the wall resist water. In fact, due to the death of a family member, our walls were out in the weather for over a year before the roof went on without issue. If you don't use this additive when mixing the earth, you need to keep direct rain off the walls with verandahs etc. There is another product we sell that can be applied after ramming - again we sell it and will explain more in another video... If you subscribe we are hoping to get more videos up shortly explaining more :)
