vishal shalivahanas the problem is that’s not what happens. The calfs get taken away always days from being born. Male calf is slaughtered as he has no use and female calf is bought up to be just like her mother. By the age of 5-6 the mother doesn’t produce milk anymore so is killed for food. This is the normal practice in the uk. Breaks my heart

@Gyanii Jeev All of the sikhi is from waheguru and it was all truth before the beginning of time only people were not aware of it. Guruji rejected janehu when he was given to wear in his childhood, he rejected caste system, he rejected idol worship. Hindus were doing all these things which he find wrong. He did not copied anything he knew what is right and what is wrong directly from god. The thing that is truth was always truth before the beginning of this universe and will always stay truth after the end of this universe. Because of your ignorance you dont want to accept the truth. My dad told me when he was young in India, they had like 10 cows and they had babies and stuff as well, and they walked in the grassy fields and ate and roamed like regular cows, and then they got milked, and then back to their ordinary life, now the cows and stuff are tied up, and in western countries, they are in cages and stuff now, veganism is now a legitimate thing because of this, cows should live lives like that, horses as well should be able to live and be with their owner, I hope you get this comment

Then leave milk and milk's by product. Milk is juice of animal bones and is for its neo natal not for human. Drinking Milk has two sins - 1. You drink milk, which is not for you. i.e. - milk is for baby animal/ calf 2. Milk is juice of bones and it is very painful method to squeeze the breast for milk. It's just a stupid things to argue what is flesh and what's not. Try to focus on meditation, choose path what guruji has told, follow Guru Granth Sahib and leave all these myths. If meat eating is wrong, leave it to the God for justice. You guys have to follow the path and your karma is with you. Leave these nonsense arguments.

I'm loving Sikhs more as I am finding out more about their religion. The needing meat for protein is a myth. We don't need protein as such, it's all the essential amino acids we need and our body makes proteins from that. Everything has amino acids in. There are vegan strong men, cage fighters and bodybuilders. I've been living a vegan lifestyle for over 8 years now and I feel so healthy, fit and strong and have loads of stamina to do kung fu and weights. Anyway, I like the Sikh philosophy. I've seen so much hatred from muslims in particular around the world and this is so refreshing compared to always seeing that dominating the news every day.

So he is saying the religion gave no clear command on whether meat is allowed or not and that convinces you? Covered up by saying "Sikhism wants you to think"? Then why not just not give any rules about anything and just let people think? Sikhism said it opposed Islam because of rituals in Islam etc...but God put those rituals as symbols and specific acts of worship...then sikhism invented its own rituals! ANd what was the true religion before sikhism? Sikhism starts with the first guru, how can the true religion only start in India a few hundred years ago, what happens to all the people before that? Sikhism is a spin off of hinduism i.e. religions in india (as hindusim was not one religion) and then under the influence of deviant sufi Islam in India, sikhism adopted some monotheist ideas and anti-caste ideas from Islam, but mainstained a lot of their hindu beliefs and terminology but adopted some terms from Islam from Arabic e.g. 'khalsa' etc.

Sikh Gurus have always said it as a sin because animals are also innocents and killing them will be injustice. But there are many stories which are indeed fake about Jhatka process . It was made years after Guru Gobind Singh Ji's martyrdom . Guru Nanak Dev Ji opposed some of the rituals of Hinduism as well as Islam . That's why he made another religion which is 'Sikhi' which means a Student . Guru Gobind Singh Ji made a new panth which is' Khalsa Panth ' which means pure . I know it is a arabic word . He wants his army to be away from any kind of greed , lust or anything and to fight for humanity and Justice. That's why he named it Khalsa . Guru Gobind Singh Ji also wrote a Granth which has the teachings of all the ten Gurus and named them Guru Granth Sahib ji and commanded the army ( Sikhs) to follow them and respect them as they are Sikhs holy living Guru . And I don't know what kind of rituals are you talking About ?? Thank you ❤

In modern times it has come to mean "It makes sense," but in ancient times (and its literal meaning) it means "It has a mind of its' own." This is the word we used to describe the animal people to indicate that they are sentient beings who have lives and emotions similar to ours.

I whole heartedly do not agree with the statement that you've made concerning the matter that meat can be consumed if it is for an ethical reason (martial/warrior,moral,etc...). I do not know how people cannot see that it is clearly written in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji that meat is not meant for a Sikh, Why would we eat the dead and sully our temple (our body). We should make our Gurus into role models and follow in their footsteps (not saying that we should become Gurus). When we take Amrit we should keep our phanda (body) clean before taking it, you don't want to pour Amrit into a dirty phanda. This is my interpretation of bani, if I was put into a situation of starvation I will use bani as my feed, if it was a military situation I'll use bani as my strength because bani is the only food we should starve/strive for;vegetarianism is the first step into becoming a Sikh. Also I am pretty sure Singhs back in the day did not consume meat, they were saintly/warrior men they lived for bani and followed the Guru. On that final note our Guru does not give us riddles to solve, if you take your time bani will explain itself, I find it mind boggling that people are still fighting over answers when they are right in front of us. P.S If someone does not agree with me please don't reply back with a heinous message, I find it extremely interesting how Sikhs these days interpret Guru Ji. Also I am not here to tell people that you are wrong, you can do whatever you like because in the end of the day I don't know whose right and whose wrong only Waheguru does. (I humbly apologize if I have offended someone with my opinion) Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fathe

@King0Jingaling 10 жыл бұрын
Sorry but you are TOTALLY incorrect. This silly meat argument is total hippy rubbish, a massive childish non-issue that needs to be nipped in the bud. Guru Nanak HIMSELF was known to have gone to a festival in Kurekshetra and bought and cooked meat (either Venison or Goat) and eaten it with his followers. He was criticized by the Brahmins for doing so, and he LAUGHED at their hypocrisy (their ignorance of exploitation around them or caused because of them) and silly superstitious notions of 'meat/flesh pollution'. "The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom." - SGGS Ang 1289 Guru Hargobind and Guru Gobind were AVID warriors and hunters. Surely they would have cooked and eaten whatever wild game it is they caught and not wasted any of it? The Nihangs eat meat (which they raise and slaughter themselves). The Singhs living in the forests/mountains/desert fighting Guerilla Wars against the Mughals would have eaten meat. Even the Akal Takht said it's fine to eat meat. The ONLY limit is that the meat must be Jhatka (killed in one blow), and Halal (Kutha) is forbidden for good reason. Now WHO am I meant to believe? Them or you? ------ Do you know what OTHER current religion demands you be vegetarian? HINDUISM! Why are you telling Sikhs to follow Hindu practices? What's next? No meat on Tuesdays and Sundays? I've heard that one too! Maybe we should start bowing to rocks as well. Sorry, I am not a Hindu. I am a Sikh and I follow my Guru's example. That means I can eat meat if I CHOOSE to do so. However if YOU PERSONALLY wish to remain vegetarian and it makes it easier for you to sleep at night. I can totally respect that. I ask that you respect my position also. ------ That said Jagraj paji is totally right that in the Western world pretty much everything we eat has been industrialized, mutated, shortcutted for maximum profit and is plagued with disgusting unethical practices. Even being a VEGAN wouldn't solve that problem. How much deforestation and the destruction of animal habitats, how much land pollution in the form of fertilizers and insecticides (which is just poison and can easily kill humans if ingested) has been caused? Fact is we are ALL guilty in some respect, and if you aren't farming your own food you have no idea how ethical it is. The ONLY REAL solution is to push for laws that FORCE better ethical treatment of animals and regular checks on these meat plants. For example, there is no logical reason Male chicks need to be thrown away just because they grow 'slightly slower'. As Sikhs we should be at the FOREFRONT of these kinds of politics. King0Jingaling You are entitled to your opinion, do whatever makes you happy, I am not here to make lives miserable. Also according my knowledge bank there is no recorded history of any Guru eating meat (if so please do link me your "sources", also make sure is not from a biased site). I would also like to apologize to you because I did not read your thesis ( I stopped right when you claimed that Guru Nanak Dev Ji ate meat (no proof)) it did not sit well with my beliefs. P.S When you are citating Guru Ji make sure what it means ( don't plaster passages without explaining yourself). Also please don't ever start your debate by saying the other is totally wrong it, it makes you sound desperate and that you are trying force your idea on others, also like I said before we don't know whose right or wrong only God knows ( you have no rights to tell me that I am wrong ). P.P.S When you address yourself to another fellow Sikh please start with a fathe, don't go on saying that you're a Sikh when can't even address yourself properly. Just this has shown me that you have a lot of hunkaar. I will leave you with a question, what do you call a butcher and what do you call a holy man? www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Guru_Granth_Sahib_on_meat read this, it will explain itself (read the shabads) WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa WaheGuru Ji Ki Fathe

superflexist I CLEARLY stated that you are entitled to your opinion on meat and whether you wish to eat it or not, sadly you never read that far. I do not mean to be TOO confrontational, but your opinion displays arrogance and ignorance of the facts. You're even talking about 'ritual purity' there! You reply to my post without even reading my arguments? That's hardly admirable behaviour in itself, you're merely shutting down debate with that attitude. It is the mark of an educated mind to entertain a thought without accepting it after all. Please read my entire reply. Here are sources telling of Guru Ji (and more) eating meat: www.sikhs.org/meat_au.htm www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Guru_Nanak_in_Kurukshetra This is one of Guru Nanak's most well known Sakhi's (stories), you as a Sikh should be aware of this history. The passage of SGGS I cited (Ang 1289) is DIRECTLY related to this story. I said you are wrong because from my perspective you clearly are. Telling people to 'read Gurbani harder' and somehow we'll magically come to the same conclusion as you is AT BEST... INCREDIBLY ELITIST. You offer no evidence to support this assertion. A debate revolves around FACTS, and I have provided them for you. Either you must properly debunk them or you have to accept the fact that Sikhs CAN eat meat and take that knowledge with you. Now in my PERSONAL opinion, those Sikhs who are against ALL Sikhs eating meat on principle are merely pendalling a ridiculous unintelligent HINDU mindset (I've seen it before) and usually won't listen to anyones points on the matter. I hope very much this is not the case with you. And since you asked for it friend. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

King0Jingaling Thank you for answering a minute portion of my paragraph and thank you for not answering the rest of it. Also I don't need to read your text to see where you are going, with only your intro I could make an idea about what you are going to talk about. Please read before you make a reference: your whole argument is in shambles now :/ ( I read the whole text ) it's the king who wanted to eat meat not Guru Ji and this is the part where he transforms the meat into rice pudding. "The Miracle that happened at that time has also been recorded. When everybody accepted his teaching and became his disciples, then the guru asked the people to open the cooking pot and eat and when it was opened then they found it was full of sweet rice pudding! all the pundits of various sects and the ordinary pepole ate sweet rice. Great guru nanak has come to liberate people from the cycle of births and deaths in this un - enlightened era of Kalyug. The guru advice to the pundits is repeated once the incessant remembrance of the lord." www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Guru_Nanak_in_Kurukshetra Just to make things straight Sikh.Org is known as a extremely biased site and on top of that it barely has any references whatsoever. Please do your research before portray your smarts. If you actually read the passages on sikhiwiki that I have linked, you will see that Guru Ji is opposed to mass. You say that I talk about ritual, please point that out. Is Jhatka not a ritual? Just to make things clear, I have no arrogance or ignorance when I clearly state "in the end of the day I don't know whose right and whose wrong only Waheguru does." don't start naming people when you can't even back yourself up, you are digging your own grave. P.S Guru Granth Saib Ji is not random book written by a random Bob, its written by our Guru, so yes it does take a lot of attention,time and dedication to read/understand it. Tell me can you understand God so easily if so please start your own religion where we can all eat meat. P.S.S I don't read texts from people who've been humbled by their own arguments and paradoxes.. (Also please stop writing in caps it makes you look unprofessional)
@King0Jingaling

superflexist Next time you go to the Mandir friend, please ding the bell once more for me! :P You claim I am unprofessional (on KZbin no less!), but you outright admit that you refuse to read my argument? That's utter hypocrisy. You'd be laughed out of a real debate! I KNOW exactly what the article says (hence why I linked it), why would I bother hiding anything from you? Unlike you am I well aware of ALL the facts and arguments, whereas you bury your head in the dirt and only pick and choose what suits you. It's called CONFIRMATION BIAS. You suffer from it. Badly. The Sikhs.Org article has A LOT MORE REFERENCES than the Sikhiwiki article! How can it be more bias? So you're wrong there too. Nice try though. Better luck next time. Criticizing the site instead of dealing with the argument? That's low. That doesn't sound very SIKH-LIKE to me. Such arrogance... I'm glad you DID read the whole article, unlike my post which is too hard for you I guess? The Sakhi (which you didn't even know existed) has many various versions, and the idea that it ended in a miracle where the meat turns into rice pudding is ONE of them. Doesn't that ALSO suggest that in the eyes of Guru Ji, meat and rice pudding are totally interchangeable? And are you denying that Guru Nanak DID indeed cook meat for himself and his followers? What if the Brahmins never showed up, would it still have turned into rice pudding? Bhai Mardana was a Muslim and surely WOULD have eaten meat? In this version Guru Ji transformed it into rice pudding only to ACCOMMODATE the Brahmins. Just like how a Gurdwara serves only Vegetarian food to accommodate ALL religions. There is NO difference. ONLY preference. Once again: "The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom." - SGGS Ang 1289 Hahaha, you claim that JHATKA is a ritual? Have you lost it? Tell that to the Nihangs. I'm sure that'll go well! The technical term 'Jhatka' merely means 'quick kill' or 'single blow'. It is applied to BOTH the Sikh way of killing animals for food AND Sikh Martial Arts (Shastarvidiya). It is the most humane way of ending life. But I don't expect you to know that... So far you have only made the most feeble ATTEMPTS to tackle my facts on Guru Nanak. What about the rest? Do you deny that Guru Gobind and Guru Hargobind were hunters? Do you deny their actions? Do you deny that the Sikhs of old ate meat? Do you deny that Nihangs eat meat? That's some funny Sikh history you got there mate. And very disrespectful. Our history (Itihaas) is CRITICAL to us, and you trying to change it for your own benefit is DISGUSTING. Just stop. I don't need to start a new religion, but I'm sure that one as practical as Sikhi MAY NOT be the right one for you because you do not strike me as a practical person. The SGGS was designed for ALL Sikhs to be able to read it and understand it as long as they put in the effort. Obviously you must be some AMAZINGLY HIGHLY DEVELOPED Maha-Purakh and you don't need facts to win an argument! Only your feelings. Like I said, for people like you there's always Hinduism. You have billions of idols to choose from. Go nuts. Also, stop writing P.S. This is KZbin. You are not writing a letter.

Actually if your look to China at the warriors practicing martial arts like Kung Fu, they are vegetarians. Even my current modern body builders have achieved phenomenal mass with a plant based diet. The point therefore is a warrior can sustain his strength without meat or milk in his diet. But yes, if you are in a circumstance where you have absolutely no choice like no food available and you have a job to do that is above your own self interest, then and only then it may be a valid reason.

+Greymist 75 the things that the nihang singhs did, kung fu is nothing infront of that. the chinese warriors did not starve for months and won wars. they did not go to war with 42 soldiers and beat an army of 5 million. So the criteria you are judging them on is very weak

Greymist 75 the old gladiators also used to be vegetarian. But when you talk of Chinese martial artists being veg that’s usually because of religion. The masters that live in cities usually do eat meat. I used to know a Shaolin monk that was full veg. Moved to London started eating meat, got married and put on LOADS of weight.

everyone here is stuck on small things, that they don't focus on the big picture. Do what you feel is right don't do what others say. Seek guidance but dont get confused in the process. It is more important to be a good citizen of this planet and a role model to others than to worry about what you eat. dont force others to do what you think is right nor blindly follow others. do your own research and make decisions based on that. Let others do what they want. above all respect everyone and their decisions, sure you can question them or show them a different way but never say that they are wrong or be rude like what j have been seeing in this comment section.

Idk why people are complaining about your 2 lines on jatts. I am a jatt from punjab and I really like your sense of humour. That was actually encouraging what you have said. I'm a Christian. I respect Sikhs and their dharam. Humans have the element of compassion in them. Use it. Jesus says " Do to others as you would want them to do to you " In my opinion others included ANIMALS as well. Truly Spiritually enlightened human, no matter, which religion, caste, or faith, will NOT eat meat. I have struggled very hard to give up meat eating. Finally I succeeded six months ago when I told myself " It's better to die than to eat an animal" After that i never ate meat. I'm a vegetarian now. Praise God and all holy men who told us not to eat meat. Including the teacher here 🙏 After I gave up meat eating, I completely lost my anger, and love in me increased . My lil testimony 🙏

Our modern lifestyle of convenience and vice is consuming way too much water and resources. The amount of water required to factory raise animals, make alcohol and sodas and the tons of water used daily for technology in the form of chips and cooling of cloud servers is astonishing. Reduce and eliminate addiction to consumption of everything.

5:27 I am a Sikh who believes in the Guru’s principle of Jhatka meat, the original Khalsa form of meat. I love and respect you Bhai Saab. And I was vegetarian for a whole year, before realising I could do it. Try me, I would

There is nothing like Jhatka meat. When there is nothing for you to eat, THEN and only THEN you are permitted to eat meat. I am a Sikh and f*ck this jhatka meat ideology. Why does everyone want to justify their obsession with meat ?

That is quite similar to what Hindu Dharma and Bhagvat Gita says. Unfortunately majority of sikhs and even sub-majority of Hindus don't follow this path of righteousness and compassion.

I am a student of class 10 and from india. Eating non veg is okay... in my family and we can eat egg, fish, and chicken only. I personally hate non veg a lot. But i am forced by my parents to eat non veg. They said that our health becomes really bad and we get various types of illness if we do not eat non veg food. We rarely eat chicken. I ate chicken only two times in my whole life. I just hate the brutal behaviour of the animal killers. I live in a muslim country so the meat that is sold here is halal. It makes me more frightened to think how the animal would have felt. In our family we mostly eat fish and eggs. I still feel bad eating fish and feel more bad eating an egg because it is like killing a baby before taking birth properly.🙁😣
